Re: Guns
I'll have to agree with you Scuff about the 12 gauge being the ultimate home defense weapon, but one cannot carry a shotgun concealed on the streets. That is unless you are wearing a oil-cloth duster to hide it under.
My Remington 870 Wingmaster is loaded and ready at home.

Re: Guns
This is a cool website that describes handgun ammo calibers, and their proven one shot stopping percentage (using actual shootings) as well as the best brands in each caliber:
http://www.internetarmory.com/handgunammo.htm
It shows scuff is correct, one shot stopping percentage on the .38 is lower than the 9mm, way lower on the shorter barrels.

Re: Guns
Yes, that's a great site. Thanks. I'm going to scroll through it tonight.
I'm only talking about home defense, Roses. If I was going to carry on the street, I'd want to carry a .45 ACP but only if I was well practiced with it. Otherwise, a 9mm. But my philosophy is different, having been a cop. If I'm at home I do believe I have the mental and emotional equipment to kill an invader and would not hesitate if I was backed into a corner and felt that my life, or that of my wife, was in imminent danger. I'd much prefer that they run when they heard the shotgun racking.
If I am on the street, whether I'm legally carrying or illegally carrying, I would prefer to avoid the whole thing and go about my business. I would do as much as I could to defuse the situation but if I couldn't, then I think I'd do it. I'm not looking to kill anyone, I'm looking to avoid it if I can. I just want to be free to go and do what I am doing at the time. I want safety and security for my wife. I avoid dangerous places. But if my back is against a wall, or if I have to come to the aid of someone being assaulted, I hope to God I have the right stuff.
We all tend to blow smoke and steam when we are safe and sound but I've been stabbed and I've been in some sketchy situations as a cop and believe you me, all that Dirty Harry stuff is bull****. It don't work that way. You are scared ****less and it's terrifying.
I digress. At home, it's a 12 gauge. If I'm on the street it's a .45 or a 9mm.

Re: Guns
"Snatch" is a great movie. Ever see "Way of the gun?" with Benicio del Toro? That's another good one.
