Re: All-Starr Quiz Edition: Do You Know Your Ringo Starr?

Finally got a minute to try and answer some of these great questions!

1. Who is Bernard Purdie, and why does he think you should care?

Tkitna already answered!

2. The critics panned it, and so did most Beatle fans. What was the title of Ringo's biography as written by Alan Clayson?

 Manon got it already!

3. Explain significance of Klaatu in Ringo's recording career. (Hint: the band by the same name is only a partial answer.)

"Klaatu Barada Nikto to you too" was in Ringo's 'Goodnight Vienna' songbook. He got it from the movie 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' which he used on the cover of the album, with his face and a star added on his space suit. Think it was Ringo and Nilsson who were watching the movie when Ringo got the idea.

Klaatu the group was a group of Canadian session players who made an album with no pictures of the group and the songs said they were written by Klaatu. Since the first album 'Calling occupants of inter planatery craft' was realeased by Capital records and it sounded Beatle like, the rumours started it was the Fabs reunited secretly.

4. How many (and which) Beatles had agreed to perform on Ringo's "I'm the Greatest?"

All of them. John was in the studio with Ringo and Richard Perry doing piano and backing vocals for the song when George called and asked if he could join in. Richard asked the two Fabs and they said come on over. Rumour was Paul wanted to join but could not get into the Country due to past drug arrest. Klaus Vormann on Bass!

5. What was the claim to fame of "Ringo or Robin"?

Furniture designing company created by Ringo and Robin something or another. They made Rolls Royce coffee tables and such.

6. Who called Ringo, "a sodding great Al Capp?"

Gotta leave some for Hairy Oatmeal

7. Who is Chips Moman?

Manon guessed it. Chips produced Ringo's Memphis album in 1987 just before Ringo hit rehab. As Ringo prepared his first tour in 1989, Chips wanted to capitalize by releasing the album and Ringo sued to keep him from doing so as he thought it was below par.

8. Whose wedding and in what year did Ringo jam with George and Paul?

His own Wedding to Barbara in 1981.

9. Bonus points if you can name the second wedding and year in which Ringo, George and Paul reprised their wedding jamming art.

Eric Clapton and Pattie Boyd, early 80's sometime!

10. What Bob Dylan album jacket features Ringo Starr?

Another for Steven B to answer

11. Who was Ringo referring to when he said, "I think the danger was mainly to him and his career?"

Over to you Hairy B

12. Which projected All-Starr band member was dropped by Ringo during tour rehearsals?

 Hairy, you there?

13. Who was Ringo referring to when he sang: "If I'm gonna get you, well, I gotta be strong."

Devil Woman!

14. What Beatle song did Ringo say featured "good drums."

Where's Hairy? Was Todd right?

15. Who introduced Billy Preston to Ringo and the Beatles, and when?

Little Richard before they was Fab!

16. What was the named of the first band that Ringo played in?

 Hurrah for Vertical Woman!

17. Who was the "Step Ladder"?

 LL wins the chocolate shake!

18. Ex-girlyfriend Nancy Andrews earned album credits with Ringo. What did she purportedly do? (Hint there's multiple possible answers to this.)

She co-wrote 'Las Brisas' for Rotogravure as well as took photo's included in that one as well as 'Bad Boy'!

19. Who are Jeremy Slate and Locke Walls, and how do those names connect to Ringo Starr?

 Ask Hairy B

20. Ringo co-starred with Marlon Brando in Candy. Name another connection that Ringo has to the legendary actor.

In the 50's motorcycle movie 'Wild Ones' Lee Marvin mentions Beatles to Marlon Brando, talking of another bike gang!

Ratty, I thought modesty prevented me from answering those questions but I have been shot down and burned alive by your finesse! :)

Your useless information could make you rich like Ken on Jeopardy, tell her that!

Ratsee was mostly right. The last question was actually a trick question. There are two possible answers. As for the "nice drumming question," it wasn't Dear Prudence.

Anyway, let's see if Harry B Oatmeal knows those remaining, including those questions of trickery.

Stay tuned for all answers.

And nicely done so far!!

Not Dear Prudence,,,,@#$% it. Ok, if Ringos not saying this about his own drumming (which he might be)i'll guess 'Back In The USSR' this time. If thats not right, i'll guess 'Ballad Of John and Yuko'. If thats not it, i'll go with an amatuer guess of 'Rain'. Then 'A Day In The Life'. Then 'Hey Jude'. then,,,,,,,,

Ok, I quit.

It was supposed to be III, but that script never got made. Instead, it went through multiple iterations before finally landing with the whole Vatican bank theme.

During the mid to late 70s, Ringo had been enrolled in famed Lee Strasberg's acting school in NYC. Another former Strasberg grad (Al Pacino) also went onto Godfather fame, and it was because of Pacino's success there, that he asked Francis Ford Coppola to recruit Lee Strasberg to play the part of Hyman Roth, who as we know was killed off in the end of II.

Once Ringo and Lee had gotten together, there was talk in Coppola's camp that Ringo could play Hyman Roth Jr., but for whatever reasons, that venture never launched.

Anyway, more Ringo trivia to come when I reveal all the answers shortly.
