Heard Davy dumped the wife that used to sell his toothbrushes on eBay.

Surprisingly the "Headquarters" deluxe edition contains nothing from the "Headquarters" box set.

Well, one thing from the box set...an alternate version of "Randy Scouse Git" which is cool. Otherwise, most of the "unreleased" tracks are stereo remixes of tracks previously only issued in mono (which Rhino failed to mention earlier). It does include "If I Learned to Play the Violin" which was only available on a CD-ROM. Surprisingly, it doesn't suck. (Thought it might be like "Penny Music", but thankfully it's not.) And Rhino is continuing their trend of annoyance. Much like making certain Wilburys tracks available only on vinyl (when there was certainly space on the cds), if you order both "Headquarters" and "PQC&J" from Rhino, you get unreleased tracks on vinyl! And the pic is so small you can't tell what the unreleased tracks might be...more stereo remixes?

Re: The Monkees ride the Rhino

Haven't taken the piss since I stopped running the urinalysis program at work.

But anyroad, Rhino used to boast of the vast wealth of unrleased Monkees material...and ever since the last "Missing Links" compilation have issued remixes (or in some cases simple remasters!) as "unreleased" tracks. By that reasoning, the "Love" album is all previously unreleased material! Rhino Handmade had previously issued a "Headquarters" sessions box set, since discontinued. They did likewise for The Stooges' "Funhouse". When Rhino issued the "Funhouse" deluxe edition, it was basically a two disc version of the box set. Not so the deluxe edition of "Headquarters" although there's about a half hour of available time that could have been used.
Still a bit preturbed that the deluxe Traveling Wilburys box had nearly a whole cd's worth of time to play with...but if you wanted the tracks they left off, you could buy the vinyl edition. Unless there's going to be some best of comp featuring those tracks, I have no kind words for such marketing. Nor have I anything nice to say about Rhino's enticement for buying the "Headquarters" and "PQC&J" deluxe editions directly for them without any disclosure of what the "unreleased" tracks are...and that they're on vinyl. I think I'd be quite righteously offended if paid good money in good faith and just got some remixes. (And let me state that these are not alternate mixes at one time considered for release or somesuch, but rather remixes that wouldn't exist if not for the deluxe edition itself!) Did I hear you say that there must be a catch?
