George Dukes it out

I had wondered what trad jazz record had inspired (I believe...can't check...I'm not home right now) "In The Park" from "Wonderwall Music"...and is it perhaps the same record at one time used at the end of "Flying" and/or the record John plays around with on "Two Virgins"???? Well, don't know about the latter two...but I might have found the source of George's inspiration.
The Dukes of Dixieland were the real deal. Eh, not really, more like an incredible simulation. The Dukes were from New Orleans, but they formed in the 1940s, and were basically a revival band playing for the tourist trade. (At one time, Pete Fountain was a Duke.) But they did several recordings, and some of their selections were odd, and their arrangements sometimes seemed more dizzy than Dixieland. They utilize the instrumentation...and proceed to make as big a drunken mess as their clientel. And one of those messes was "Bill Bailey" which has less of its parent's DNA than MJs kids. But what it does resemble (arrangement wise...not shouting theft here...) is George's "In The Park"...about 20 years ahead of time.

"Wonderwall" is one my faves. It's good to sit and experience and react to all the different moods. Very theraputic, I think.
