Mr Tour and Tkitna are the exception!

I notice that usually one group that criticizes and belittles Ringo and his talents are local musicians, usually drummers. I fiddle with the drums a bit butt have not been in a band since I was a teen. It must just be the local drummers who have a security guard attitude and the only way to make themselves feel better for a lack of success is to attack the most popular target, which is Ringo. I am glad our resident drummers are class acts and are happy with themselves and their talents!

yes i respect ringo's drum playing totally rat.
he was one of my major influences way back when,
when i first started out playing drums. to me
he was one of the greatest drummers in the
world, and i'm not talking about being fast or
quick or loud or anything. i'm talking about
his unique drum beats that always seem to be
a slight behind the other instruments, but
dynamically timed perfectly for the songs.
not all of his beats, but a lot of them. a few
examples are the beat in the beatles walrus,
rain, let it be and many more. if u listen
closely he's a "hair" behind throughout most of
those songs, and i mean hair with a capital h.
but that slight drumbeat variation gives him that
unique style which is very difficult to copy.
gives the songs a pump and go type feel.

In His Own Words

About his early drumming, Ringo said:

"I started to be an engineer but I banged me thumb on the first day. I became a drummer because it was the only thing I could do. But whenever I hear another drummer I know I'm no good. John learned me the song I sing. I can only play on the off beat because John can't keep up on the rhythm guitar. I'm no good on the technical things but I'm good with all the motions, swinging my head, like. That's because I love to dance but you can't do that on the drums.

"I figure we're good for another four years. I don't want to invest me money in stocks or anything. I just want to have it and draw twenty or thirty quid a week.
The main thing is, I don't ever want to go back to work."

On the offbeat, just like Twister!

I have taken up for Sir Ringo many a time when talking shop with the younger crowd (Jim Keltner, Gary Chester, Hal Blaine, and Russ Kunkel too). They dont understand. They feel that the drummer who can do the most double bass beats and single roll strokes a minute are the greatest. Technically, thats great, but what does it do for the music? Nothing. You cant listen to that and enjoy it. Its like the construction company next door when your trying to sleep after a midnight shift. MMT was correct about Ringo being able to drag the pocket at times (Bonham was probably the best at this that ive heard) and playing on top at others (Magical Mystery Tour, etc,,,). Ringo was a very innovative drummer with the ability to almost keep perfect time. I love his fills and his drum sounds were tasteful as well (beatles and solo). Whats there not to like? :ringo:

Yes, Bonham was exceptional at dragging the
beat in an almost perfect way too. Great
drummer and truly respect his playing.

Paul wanted Ringo on the track 'Rockestra Theme' playing along with John Bohnam and I think Keith Moon. Can't remember why Ringo was not on it. Maybe out of the Country or busy with a project. Seems there were alot of times one FAB wanted another on their record or other project but they were not available.

We could do a 'Moondogestra Theme' with TK and Mr Tour on drums, Steven B Oatmeal on triangle, Psychocop on mouth organ, Xue on skin flute, Sam on Bonaphone, LL pulling a cats tail for a few screeches, Manon tapping a stick on a Red Raspberry jam jar, Mr Twister on blow up doll, Waldo on Asthma inhaler, and so much more from other Dumheads!
