Re: Fame is Hell on Drummers!
We just lost another one,,,,
March 16, 2005
JAKSON SPIRES OF BLACKFOOT/SRA PASSES
FT. PIERCE - Jakson Spires, the powerhouse drummer behind legendary Southern Rock songs "Train, Train," "Highway Song" and "Wishing Well," died this afternoon (March 16th) in the hospital in Florida where he had been on life support since Sunday. Jakson suffered what has been described as "something like a brain aneurysm," with a blood vessel bursting in his head.
Jakson and band mates Greg T. Walker, Charlie Hargrett and Bobby Barth had recently reformed Blackfoot by popular demand. Original front man Rick Medlocke was unable to join the reunion due to prior obligations to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Jak was also a full time drummer for The Southern Rock Allstars, along with friends Jay Johnson, Charlie Hart, Scott Mabry and Jimmy Farrar.
A memorial service is being scheduled, and we will post the information here as soon it is available.
GRITZ Magazine considers Jakson one of our dearest friends, and we will always love and remember the great drummer they called "Thunderfoot." There will be a memorial in the Spring issue of GRITZ.
***I'm not sure how old he was, but i'm guessing in his mid 50's.***

Music world mourns an 'incredible showman'
By Jesse Hogan
March 28, 2005 - 11:15AM
Australian music guru Ian "Molly" Meldrum believes the local music industry has lost an "incredible showman" with the death of Paul Hester.
The former Crowded House and Split Enz drummer took his own life in a Melbourne park on the weekend after taking his dogs for a walk. He was 46.

Hi Dorothy (Happy Birthday again). Me hit 100? Thats a laugh, but at least it seems that the Reaper only wants the people that are known.

Re: Fame is Hell on Drummers!
Pierre Moerlen Rip 1952-2005
Pierre Moerlen died unexpectedly in his sleep at home in Strasbourg on the night of 2nd/3rd May. His funeral will be held next Monday, the 9th.
Very sad news. Pierre was an extremely underrated drummer. His work with the original 'Gong' let alone his version of the band was amazing. He also played on a few Mike Oldfield albums.
(This was taken from another site, but I have heard of him. Only 53 years old.
:goof: )
