Re: They're holdin' an election! Tomorrow!!
Well I did vote today. And while I voted for my Republican Senator I voted for a Democrat for the House (he's the better candidate) and I did not vote McCain. Boys I refuse to swear loyalty to any Party; I'm not a Democrat and I'm not a Republican; I am an American and that's that. And to quote my man Leonard Pitts from his column of yesterday: "Here comes Barack Obama wanting to be president. He has an economic plan, sure. He has a health care plan, yes. He has a promise to end the war in Irag, fine. Those are important, certainly. But when I look at this guy and I reflect on the hate that I see in my country, the lack of purpose that I see in my country, the division and fear that I see in my country, those other concerns seem secondary. You know what I hope Barack Obama is? I hope he is reconciliation...And the beginning of something new." ("Something New" - wasn't that a Beatles album?)
I don't know about you all, but lately I've been getting my *ss kicked and handed to me all too often. And I know that some of you have too because I read what you guys write on here. Reconciliation sounds pretty d*mn good to me right now. Ed and Ratman and PC and Tkitna and Waldo and Twistie and LL and Toppings and Steve A and all you good people I hope you'll agree and come down and join me.
I'm off for the night to watch those returns. By the time I get here tomorrow chances are somebody will have been named the next President of the United States. Whoever it is, I'm ready to get behind that guy to help make this world a better place. I'll look for each of you there. Until then - Tom

Re: They're holdin' an election! Tomorrow!!
sadly, reconciliation will never happen, especially if McCain wins.
If Sweet Home Obama wins then it's flag waving time for the blacks of this country who will view this, not as healing and making the nation stronger, but as a victory over 'Whitey' the way O.J.'s aquital was cheered.
What I fear most is that 'whitey' will eventually get fed up with the crap he's had the eat the past 30 years and a sleeping giant will rise. If Obama introduces legislation for reperations and it passes. There will be a war.
So much for healing the nation.

Re: They're holdin' an election! Tomorrow!!
watching the returns on MSNBC and FOX News was like sitting in the Obama Campaign Headquarters. It doesn't bother me that Obama won. It bothers me that people blindly voted for him. That rally in Chicago had a concert atmosphere.
Last night was the wedding. There will be a honeymoon. Then you have to live with it.
I 'hope' the voters were right.

I'm going to church Sunday to pray for us all.
I'm being dead honest too when I say that i'll never vote again or allow myself to be sucked in by anthing political.

wish I could have that same wish but I'm too jaded. Racism has always existed. If it's not color, then it's class, culture, religion, sexual orientation, even the sports team you cheer for or if you like Pepsi over Coke. People will not change because Obama got elected.

You may very well be right and I hope you are. Unfortunately, my cups always half empty.
