Lenin/McCartney

In 1980, Paul said that "Give Peace A Chance" led to the end of the Viet Nam War. There would be some validity to that, I think.
In 2003, Paul claimed that the Beatles led to the fall of communism, which also seems a fair statement seeing as how most governmental forms of communism suppressed free thought, music and fun.
And yet...the end of the Viet Nam War was also the end of South Viet Nam, and led to a unified Viet Nam that is one of the remaining communist hold outs in the world today. Another communist hold out, Cuba, seems to have replaced Che Guevara as their national hero with John Lennon. How can these views be reconciled?
How also to explain that while married to Linda, even at the hieght of his post-Beatles popularity, the best Paul could do was to meet local politicians to receive the key to the city...then Linda dies, Paul hooks up with Heather Mills and he's meeting with world leaders? And interesting that two of them...Putin used to head the KGB, and George W Bush is not only President Jr, but also son of the former head of the CIA. Heck, John only had connections with the FBI. (Ha!)

It does seem that Macca is not above a bit of revisionist history at times. And I can hear a loud "duh" coming from the Northwest as I type this. During the last world tour, and also in his poetry book, Paul has prefaced "Blackbird" as being in response to the civil rights movement. And this may be true, however I don't recall hearing much about that until recently. I seem to remember that Blackbird may have had something to do with some, ahem, "adventures" Paul had out in California, in between girlfriends perhaps.
But heck, he wrote the song, so he ought to know.

I'll give Paul a pass on this one, since he'd told Donovan in 1968 about "Blackbird" and Diana Ross taking offense, etc., especially in light of Paul's quotes in 1966 which were probably far more inflammatory that John's Jesus quote. But really, the biggest revisionism has to do with the writing of "Yesterday". Very little has been spoken about the lyrics apart from 20 some years on Paul saying it was about his mother. But as everyone recalls the song had long gone without (proper) lyrics and a title. At the Ivor Novello awards when "Yesterday" won Song Most Likely To Have Lennon/McCartney Credit Dispute or some such (and Elvis Costello's dad was leading the house band), John & Paul were asked about how the song came about. Even though even then John claimed to have nothing to do with it, (and this is available on bootleg), Paul said that after having the melody for so long, John came up with the title "Yesterday" and the words just came from there. Maybe a belated thank-you would be in order.

Isn't changing the credits to McCartney/Lennon thanks enough?

Paul is a capitalist. That's where his political ideology lies. I wrote Yesterday.
