POTC3 Acting Job
Dad saw on the news this afternoon (MSNBC to be exact) that apparently Orlando didn't do that great of a job on his part. I haven't seen the movie yet, so I won't say anything either way, but I've also noticed a lot of people say he's done a bad job in other movies, and I thought he did a spectacular job (KOH being a good example). For those of you who HAVE seen it, what did you think?

Re: POTC3 Acting Job
I thought he did an amazing job! Not just because I'm like head over heels for the guy either. I went with my best guy friend who can't stand the guy (Hmm..wonder why?) and he even said that Orly did really good. He's amazing. Enough said.

Re: POTC3 Acting Job
like I said, I generally end up disagreeing with what MSNBC says about Orlando. Not to bash the newsstation or go into a rant about 'liberal media and their lies' or anything, I was just wondering who thought what.
I may be going to see the movie today, so hopefully I'll get to see for myself!

Re: POTC3 Acting Job
I went to see it last night and I thought he did great! I guess most of us would think he did a great job, just because we like him in just about anything. But I think it was one of the best perfomances of his!

Re: POTC3 Acting Job
I thought of the 3 POTC movies, that Orlando did his best acting job in this third one. He not only looked fantastic, he seemed less reactive in the role this time. Will didn't have to constantly be the straight man to Jack (altho that worked fine when he has), or look wounded by Elizabeth when he was with her.
Without spoiling the end, I loved his acting in it, so if this is last of the "Pirates" movies, I am satisfied that Orlando did his most excellent work in it, of the 3.
As a comment on the critics, I read an online review of the movie, and the critic said that Orlando had the most improved role, which might have been a left-handed compliment, but he didn't have glowing things to say about anyone else, either!
I will go see this again, because I love to catch the more subtle things that you can't help but miss in the first viewing. Mainly tho, to see that hunk of a man again!

Re: POTC3 Acting Job
As I told Pambi poo, I didn't think that Orlando did a better acting job in POTC3 compared to the other movies. In fact, I thought his range was pretty much the same, that stern, serious look he likes to give where his lips are slightly parted and I'm drooling right now as I think about it so maybe I should stop! On the other hand, I enjoyed his role in this one much more than in the other two, maybe b/c he just seemed...darker or something. Without giving it away, I was so very sad by the ending and I am quite disappointed with how things turned out.
In terms of the other acting, Keira did OK but I don't think she can act very well anyway so it doesn't matter...and Johhny fell flat in my eyes.
Having said all that, I don't think the acting was at fault, but more so the script writing and stuff. The movie as a whole was the weakest of the three (in my opinion) and I'm not sure of the series has much more life in it to last another movie.

Re: POTC3 Acting Job
wasn't it only supposed to be a triology? Dang...if they made a fourth, I'd honestly be mad because by then they'd just be riding the bandwagon, not trying to make a quality film.
Did you guys think things resolved well? By well I mean the story's over, happy or sad ending, and it's positive it's over.No loose ends untied or any of that.

Re: POTC3 Acting Job
I don't know if I think they resolved things well. There were "endings" but not enough to resolve things.
Not that I really care, but what of Calypso? I don't think there was enough interaction between Jack and Will, cos I felt they were allies if not friends. After Elizabeth left Jack to his fate in the second movie, and Will misunderstood their farewell kiss, it sort of left the impression that it was JACK who deserved the fate that Will ultimately received. And while I wouldn't have liked for him to have been at the helm of the Flying Dutchman for all eternity either, it did seem more in keeping with what he wanted out of his life, to be at sea. Will wanted to marry and build a life with Elizabeth. I just felt it was wrong the way it ended.
None of the other stories in this movie interested me, so the only way they could possibly work a fourth movie would be the vague reference to the Fountain of Youth, and Jack yet again going after Barbossa and the Pearl. Sorry but that boat's already sailed, pardon my pun!

Re: POTC3 Acting Job
there were definitely a lot of things that were a bit disappointing in this movie, but the writers had so much story to cram into this to wrap up the cliffhanger from DMC, take care of will and elizabeth's story, and conitinue with beckett gaining power and making efforts to destroy pirates.
i think it was a hard task to cram so muich and try to make it less than three hours, ted elliot and terry rossio were definitely rushed yo finish the script they were behind schedule and the finaly script was finished until middle august and shooting didn't end til november, everything was just running late and there was basically just a mad rush just to make a complete movie.
no i wpersonally wouldn't've liked Will as Captain of the Flying Dutchman, but you have to admit, it's better than him dying, and it's like jack said, "if you love your heart away, you'll lose it for sure" and that's what will did, he tried too much to both save his father and his relationship with elizabeth. and yes i think thweu'v pretty much ended will and elizabeth, i really don't see how they'll tie in to ADV.
and i also was disappointed with the lack of jack and will interaction, there was really only one scene of the two of them and it was short, it was sad. i was upset, there was too much focus on keira, but this is the one movie where i actually liked where her character went, but still it was too micha nd a bit over the top
as to orlando's acting, he's always had critics, and many people think he's not a great actor because of his neverending typecasted epic movie roles with nothing but swords and horses. yes he has done a lot of these movies and they take up a large portion of his resume. however, he has done other things, independent films and several modern-day movies to placate his critics one would think. yes i beleive he's done better acting in some movies more than others, in AWE, i think he did a wonderful job, but there definitely wasn't enough of him, in my opinion.
ok, i am done rambling... for now, i'll be surprised who actually reads everything i said... hah
