Re: POTC3 Chat - let's talk about it if you've seen it...****SPOILERS***
Thank y'all SO much for clearing that up. It wasn't making any sense to me at all why if the role was created specifically for Davey Jones, Will Turner was going to take over. It's not "Whoever is the captain of the Flying Dutchman"'s locker, it's Davey Jones' locker. And I didn't like having neither a tragic or a happily ever after ending. I'm still not crazy about the ten year thing . . . but I like it better than what I thought it was. Also adored that nobody aged in ten years . . .
Overall, I loved it, though it's definitely my least favorite of the three. I really, really disliked Elizabeth's character --I felt like she made this HUGE personality jump just because they wanted a warrior princess. The pirate king and captain crap was utterly ridiculous, lol, and the Pirate-Puritan in me (oxymoron?) was frustrated by everything concerning her character. :x I love Keira Knightley, but did NOT like this Xena-Elizabeth. I also thought Jack was strangely subdued. I think they were trying to fit so much drama and plot into it that there wasn't much time for comedy, which is a shame. Though I loved the intricacies, I missed the comedy.
Also, am I the only one that was insanely saddened that Norrington died? I really liked him. Also loved that Ted and Terry did their research about pirate lords.
Acting-wise, I thought Orlando did fantastic, although his character made me sad. He's SO insanely different from the beginning. :/ (*cough*Ifeelafanficcomingon...*cough*)
Least favorite scenes: When Elizabeth was made king @@
Favorite scene(s): When Becket is walking across the ship blowing up --BEAUTIFUL! Also when they're sailing to World's End and all you see are the stars and their reflection. The stone crabs were great.
Am I the only one hoping Orlando isn't in any more of the movies? I feel like they've set it up so that now his and Liz's kid would have to be included, which would just . . . annoy me. I hate it when for the sequel, movies just have the kids (Mummy, Little Mermaid, etc.) I would love to see more of Johnny and Geoffrey and feel like there's more to do there.
Actually, to be honest, I want Jack Sparrow to meet and fall in love with a Graine O'Malley character. :x I think that would be awesome.
SORRY this was so long. I've been dying to discuss the movie since I saw it yesterday, lol.
Also, since when has Calypso been goddess of the sea? In Greek mythology, Calypso was just a sea nymph, one of the nereid. She's also referred to as Oceanid, one of 3000 nereid who were all goddess of a specific spring, lake, river, stream, etc. In Homer, she kept Odysseus and his men on her island of paradise for seven years until Zeus made her let them go. Some say she died of a broken heart after he left, that she really loved him, and thus are insisting nymphs are capable of loving one completely, whereas other people completely refute that. Pirates seems to state that nymphs can love but not remain faithful ("It's my nature"). It confused me which bits of Calypso they kept and which they disregarded.

Aw, yay! WHen that came on, it was me and seven other ladies all left in the theatre. I heard this crazy popping sound and I thought to myself, "Yep, the ovary population of this theatre just dwindled significantly."

Hey, I actually screamed out "NO!" when he was killed. I loved Norrignton, the man was sex on a stick, so I was not only sad but PISSED OFF that they killed him. Just one more reason for me not to see the next one.
*SIGH*

Yeah, Norrington in the first one to me was a bit bland, but in the second one, he had me thinking Robinson Caruso the whole time, adn I decided I wouldn't mind gtting stranded on a desert island with that man.
And the they went and killed him! It was a very Haldir moment for me. Though I didn't cry. I saw TT in theatres three times and cried each time Haldir died, rofl.

No, I was like "What the **** do they think they're doing??!!" I so loved him in this movie, it was soooo sad...

That made me think too.. I mean, if it had to be a women (instead of Poseidon or so), couldn't they make one up? I'm not sure many knows Calypso's story, but I was rather put down by having an, in Greek mythology, almost nobody to be the goddess of the sea... But again, it's probably the best one they could choose if they had to choose one already "existing"....

Re: POTC3 Chat - let's talk about it if you've seen it...****SPOILERS***
I missed this thread but feel like since I've now seen the movie twice I can join in on the discussion.
I got from the conversations that Jack had with himself (LOL) and at other times, the price to pay was an eternity as the captain of the Dutchman. And all the dropped hints in the dialogue (first with Tia/Calypso)that Will knew what would be sacrificed if he went on board to save his father. Even Will Sr. told Elizabeth that given the choice "I wouldn't come back for me." So if the ending after the credits signals anything to me (and I'd love to be wrong), it's that Will has endured the first ten years of his captaincy, and has come back to Elizabeth and his son at the soonest opportunity.
I hated that Norrington had to die too, when he'd finally changed sides and helped Elizabeth escape. His fate was bittersweet, in his admission to Elizabeth that tho their fates had been entertwined, they hadn't been bonded. AW...
Johnny was less "savvy" than in the other 2 as Jack. Some of his attempts at humor were quite (as Lolo called it) flat. It was a shame that he reverted to his old self only after Will was dead. I didn't like how he was so accepting of things back at Tortuga with the "ladies" as back to normal. That whole scene leading up to the discovery of the Pearl missing yet again didn't ring true.
If there is a 4th Pirates movie, I truly hope it's less about pirate lords and warrior princesses (good one Shiloh), and more about the character that made a hit in the first movie. Anyone think the pursuit of the Fountain of Youth is really a good next sequel!?

Thank you, Shiloh~
