Re: Ten Mistakes Writers Don't See (But Can Easily Fix When They Do) That was awesome!
And I am guilty of almost all of them...
excepting the commas one...
my friend is ALWAYS getting after me because I use way to many commas, WAY to many. lol. She just about rejoiced when I had her edit something today and she found a semicolon...
Thanks for posting that! Really helps!

Re: Ten Mistakes Writers Don't See (But Can Easily Fix When They Do) AHH! That was an awesome list...I am in love with commas. I put them everywhere. And thats like the only one on the list that they didn't elaborate on!!! Not fair I say! lol. But #8 reminded me of a C.S.Lewis quote that I really like:
"Don't say it was "delightful"; make us say "delightful" when we've read the description. You see, all those words (horrifying, wonderful, hideous, exquisite) are only like saying to your readers "Please will you do the job for me."
Thanks so much for the list!!

Re: Ten Mistakes Writers Don't See (But Can Easily Fix When They Do) OK no noes posted on this for a while but I'm new.
I found it very helpfull. It make me realise how I have forgotten from English classes in terms of grammer over the years. If you are still in school PAY ATTENTION! You won't realize till later what is/was important. OK I know I sound like a teacher/parent. On the other hand you will be supprised what you do remember and it may be helpful in a way you never thought.
Something helpful this list has made me think of:The Three Unities
I went to a special high where I studied theater and acting. We would talk about the unity of time, action(what the characters do) and drama(more of the emotional side, thinking ,feeling-even humor) in a play (which in escence is a story). You have to be aware of how these relate to each other and what they do (or don't do for your story) What time frame is your story happening in days weeks, months, years, time of day , season. How does this effect what people do. How do characters feelings relate to their actions and vice versa. Does whats happening to a person advance your plot. Does it move you forward or bog you down. Learning what to leave out is just as importaint as what to put in and it's only learned by doing (pratice, writing, reading others work) I can talk about some of this in more detail if anyone looks at this again and would like me to. Still it was good for me to write it and think about it.
Re: Ten Mistakes Writers Don't See (But Can Easily Fix When They Do) Im guily of atleast one of those*shifty eyes..I like the Show dont tell, one, although this can cross over into the urple catagory very quickly. Being descriptive is fine, but sometimes people go overboard and describe everything in one long paragraph.
Wheres the line between "show dont tell" and urple?
