posticon Reading & Reviewing Stories - Some Tips

Hey lassies!

Tis I, Loretta. emoticon

OK, I'll stop with the stupidity and just get right to the point.
Someone PM'd me a few weeks ago and just asked a question about 'reviewing' stories, and so I thought I'd start this thread.

I've been on this forum a heck of a long time, and been reading and reviewing stories for just as long, so these are just a few pointers that I thought I would share.

1. To the Readers: When reading a story, it's always helpful to the writer of a story if you give some sort of feedback. We're all writers here, so we know how much time and effort goes into writing, so it's nice when a reader will say at least a few things about what they liked (or whatever) about the story.

This helps keep the writer motivated to keep writing.

For example, I've read some 'reviews' that are not helpful, but say:

"Great! Please update!"

or

"More please!"

And that's it.

I realize that not everyone has oodles of time to spend on reviewing, but if you commit to reading a story you should at least make an attempt to say a few nice things about it.
It actually takes less time than you think.

2. To the writers: When someone reviews your story, take the time and effort to acknowledge their efforts. Sometimes, people lose interest in a story when the writer never seems to thank them or say anything to them, but just ignores what people write about their story. If you want readers, treat them well.

3. To everyone: Don't review a story only b/c you want that person to read and review your story. Read a story because you are truly interested in it, not b/c you expect to receive something in return.

On that note, I just wanted to say that we can all use this thread to discuss issues related reviewing and reading stories here. I posted this so that we can share ideas and thoughts, and hopefully make reading and writing stories for the forum more fun.

Thanks everyone for reading!

Ahh, indeed. Not only does it help the writer improve upon their writing skills, and know what their readers enjoy, but it also feels awesome when someone takes the time to make a kick ass review pointing out just what they loved about your story. I know it certainly makes *me* feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Indeed. I know I wouldn't take the time to write a kick ass review if the writer never acknowledged the fact that I'm writing a review for them and reading their story and such.

Unfortunately, I haven't been on the OBCF long enough to know what the heck you're talking about! Mind filling me in? emoticon

Anyway Laur, I think it's great that you put up this guideline, it's helpful.

Oh and as for the revolutions...well, I think you were here when we had that smiting system. People got really angry if they were smited and it was a mess...

The others were just when forum members were acting really immature, including yours truly. But as you can see, we've moved on. lol

Anyway, I want to give you PROPS for commenting on this thread Aless. You're a cool chica!
