Well, how about another chapter, then? Here it is, Chapter 6

Days went by and Darcy settled in quite nicely. She spent her first weekend doing some shopping with Sam to decorate her new place. She was becoming great friends with Orlando’s sister, who, not surprisingly, held all the same character qualities her brother did.

After that weekend, Orlando announced that his days of lounging around were sadly coming to an end and he needed to go back to school if he ever wished to graduate. Darcy hated to see him leave, but she knew how much he loved acting and how much he hoped to be a big name someday. Moreover, he was good and it would be such a shame to let his talent go to waste.

He was home for the weekend as much as he could, always checking in on her. Again, it might be a good idea to have him keep his distance, as their acute awareness of the other one wore off and settled back into the easy friendship they’d had from the get go. Most of the time.

Darcy had decided to take her own chances. She didn’t want to tell Orlando until she was successful, but she had finally heeded his advice.

The world was gonna meet Wendy. She had allowed Sam, Sonia and even Colin to read some of her work and all of them loved it. Sure, they weren’t vicious critics and they meant well, but they had given her enough assurance to give it a shot.

She had sent copies of her first full story to several publishers, but so far, nothing. She knew she would have to be patient, as she was probably only one of hundreds of wannabe writers who had sent in a manuscript, hoping to have enough of an edge to stand out.

Even if they would eventually read it, it would take them some time to react, so she wasn’t at all concerned.

Meanwhile, she had found herself a job as free-lance editor of a local newspaper, a job she could do from the comfort of her house. She could e-mail in any changes she had made or call in the office for them to send a courier. Since she had never gotten around to finish college, it didn’t pay all that well, but it was enough to pay rent to Sonia. It wasn’t all that much, she actually wished it had been more so she wouldn’t have to feel guilty for their generosity; no matter how many times Orlando claimed it wasn’t.

As days turned into weeks and into months without anything of real substance going on for either one of them (though spending the holidays with the Blooms was a real revelation for her as to how a tight-knit family could behave toward each other), things were suddenly going warp-speed somewhere mid 1999.

Darcy had been sending in more Wendy-manuscripts to more companies, just throwing caution to the wind in order to fulfill the dream Orlando had pointed out she had. As for him, he was taking a dare himself: he had auditioned for a part in what was likely to be a major production: the filming of Tolkien’s worldwide renowned Lord of the Rings trilogy. He really didn’t think he had any chance whatsoever since every wannabe actor and their dogs would be auditioning. And he hadn’t even officially graduated from Guildhall yet. So he had simply turned in his tape reading for the role of Faramir and left it at that, never expecting to hear anything. Like she never expected a true answer either.

It could have easily been a movie scene displayed at Darcy’s little cottage that particular spring day. Mail had arrived, containing an envelope from Blitzprint, a comic book publishing company and one of several she had been sending her manuscripts to. She hadn’t heard from many of them and the ones who did have the decency to answer her, had only sent her back her work with a note that said they weren’t interested for various reasons.

She had figured out soon enough that getting a big envelope from a publisher meant bad news. So maybe…did she even dare hope? Maybe she should ask Orlando to open it for her. Ah, bull. She was a big girl and if this was just another rejection, she could handle it.

It wasn’t.

For moments, she stared at the letter, half expecting the words to disappear or for the damn thing to simply spontaneously combust. When both the content and the texture of the material stubbornly remained the same, she dared to gulp. Then she smiled, the happiest smile her face had sported for quite a while.

Orlando. She needed him to share her news with. As always, he should be the first to know. She picked up her phone to ask him to come over, when her door was almost thrown out of its hinges by her exuberant friend, grinning at her from ear to ear.

“Guess what?” they both blurted out in unison. Then they grinned at each other. Orlando took a seat next to her.

“What, you got some good news too? I know I do, you’re not gonna believe this…”

“What, no ladies first?”

“Sure, you show me a lady and I’ll let her go first.”

She smacked him upside the head with the envelope. “Bastard.”

“See? Ladies don’t address gentlemen like that.”

“Show me a gentleman and I’ll address him properly.”

“Cheeky little *****.”

Darcy huffed indignantly, only to burst out laughing. Boy, were they good together. Orlando reached for his wallet and took out a coin.

“Heads of tails?”

She raised an eyebrow, but then shrugged. “Tails.”

The coin spun in the air a couple of times before he caught it and patted it against the back of his hand. He removed the hand covering it to show her the outcome, mock chagrined as he saw he lost. Tails it was.

“Very well milady. Tell me what has you high as a kite except for your funny-pills.”

Instead of telling him, she stuffed the letter in his hands. She knew it would take him just a little while longer to read it considering his dyslexia, but when he was done, the most brilliant smile she had ever seen on him appeared on his face. The temperature inside her home (or just her body?) raised several degrees and the entire interior somehow simply lit up. Just his reaction made all the work, all the doubts, all the revision and late nights worthwhile.

“Darcy…you’re, they’re…Wendy’s gonna be published!”

Her own grin mirrored his own and he let out a whoop of joy, before lifting her out of her chair and spinning her around.

“I knew it! I told you it was worth it! Damn, I’m so proud of you, this is gonna be such a huge success, a bigger hit than Teletubbies, Smurfs and whatever other creature put together…I want the first copy, signed of course. If I keep it long enough, it’ll become a relic. Selling at Sotheby’s for millions of pounds. Oh my gosh.”

She loved his over the top gushing, his genuine happiness and the disturbed way he displayed it. He had almost seemed to have forgotten about his own news, which wasn’t just something either.

“So, how about your big news?”

For a moment, he looked somehow surprised, than he shook his head like a puppy and, still carrying her, flopped down on the couch with her, propping her against his chest. They’d been in this position many times by now, watching movies or soccer matches together, so there was no awkwardness about that. Well, none that she dared to show anyway.

“You remember I auditioned for the part of Faramir for the Lord of the Rings movies?”

“Sure I do. You actually heard from them?”

“Yup, actually, that was several weeks ago. I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to get your hopes up. Nor my own.”

“What do you mean? They wanted you? You got the part?”

“No, I don’t…not the part of Faramir anyway.”

“Then…come on you big log, just tell me.”

“Hey, just for you calling me a log, I’m gonna remain perfectly silent for at least five minutes.”

“Sweetie, you couldn’t be quiet for five seconds if your life depended on it.”

“Hey, not fair! Neither could you.”

She glanced at her watch pointedly. “See?”

He scowled at her, bottom lip sticking out in a delicious pout. “You’re mean.”

“So? Deal with it.”

“Oh I’ll deal with it alright.”

Before she could object, he flipped her over so he could straddle her, tickling her mercilessly, though always so careful not to hurt her.

Without the aid of her legs, she could only squirm with her upper body in a futile attempt to get away from his clutches. Even the pillow she managed to smack him upside the head with did little to stop him. Only when she was a gasping, shuddering mess and she choked out a hushed “you win”, did he let go.

“You give?”

Through labored breath: “For now.”

He grinned and got off of her, taking on their earlier cuddled position. After getting her lungs to work in a more appropriate tempo, Darcy looked up at him again, gulping as usual at the sight of his vibrant eyes.

“Now spill the beans, Orli.”

“Impatient child.” It earned him a poke in the ribs and he scowled again, though not making a move to distract her this time. She sighed in frustration.

“Alright, alright. Like I said, they didn’t want me as Faramir. That part’s been already given. They wanted me to read for another part. And I got it.”

“You got a part in the Lord of the Rings? My god, Orlando, that’s huge! I’m so proud of you. Who are you gonna be?”

Re: Not so easy - a new orlando Bloom story.

Second half of chapter 6

He grinned. “I’m gonna be one of the most perfect beings in the entire book…an elf.”

Darcy now laughed. He did have some out of this world beauty. She could imagine him as an elf. Were pointy ears erogenous zones by the way? She would gladly find out. Bad girl! Scratch that.

“An elf, huh? Which elf?”

She wasn’t sure she should ask. He hadn’t even officially graduated yet, maybe he was just cast as any of the extra elves, without maybe even a spoken part, without a name other than ‘elf extra #5’. She took a closer look at him though and not only did he not seem to mind the question, he was glowing even more.

“Legolas.”

No.

No way. She must have misunderstood. Legolas? That wasn’t just an elf, that was THE elf. He was one of the Fellowship. So not only did he get a role, not only did he get a speaking role, he got an even bigger than the one he auditioned for. That freakin’ friend of hers actually landed himself a lead part in a major production, days before his graduation…

Wow. She had totally forgotten about her own news, big as it was. Publishing Wendy surely was a dream come true, but this, this was dreaming beyond what she had always held for even remotely possible, even if he was a natural.

“Wow, you actually can be silent for five minutes.” His amused voice broke through her bubble. Automatically, she punched him, but than she propped herself up and turned in his arms to kiss his cheek.

“God Orlando…it’s just…wow. This could sky-rocket your career! You’re on your way to fame now. You’re gonna be Hollywood’s new candy! And I’m so damn proud of you! Just promise me one thing…remember me when you’re a big hotshot millionaire, okay?”

“Sure, I’ll name some hospital wing after you.”

“And here I was willing to settle for you buying me a car or something.”

“I’ll throw in the car. No biggie.”

“You’re too generous.”

“Can’t let the fame get to my head. Gotta remember my roots and stuff. Be genuine, the press loves that kind of sh*t.”

“Oh I get it…the moment the money comes flooding in, we’re reduced to the ‘look how generous I am to the small minions I had to put up with throughout my seriously deprived childhood’ storyline.”

“Oooh, nice one. Wanna write my biography?”

“You’d better watch it, or I’ll be writing your eulogy instead.”

“Ouch.”

“Got that right.”

They grinned like idiots, cuddling closer together.

“Orli…are you nervous?”

He huffed indignantly. “I am not nervous.” Silence. “I’m scared sh*tless.”

She immediately lifted her head to search his eyes for the truth. It was there alright, plain and simple fear, making him look like a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming truck. Her heart contracted painfully at the sight and she caressed his cheek softly.

“That bad huh?”

He jumped up as if stung by her touch and started pacing, taking big strides and rubbing his neck the way he always did when he felt cornered.

“Of course, I mean…I have almost zero experience. What if I can’t deliver? What if I royally f*ck up? What if my dyslexia comes and bites me in the arse so I can’t even read my lines, let alone get them out of my throat? What if I fall again and break my neck this time? This is a very physical movie and you know what can happen to a guy like me, you’ve seen it. ”

Tears sprang into his eyes as he worked himself into a total panic, coming up with ridiculous reasons for his apparently unavoidable downfall. Darcy tried to attract his attention, but he was lost in a world of his own with her firmly locked outside. He didn’t even hear her as he droned on.

“I mean, people like Peter freakin’ Jackson put their faith in me just like that and I can’t let them down, but what if I will? What if these movies get all kinds of reviews which all say they could have been d*mn fine movies if it weren’t for that moron they cast as the elf. What if I drag this entire production down with me?”

“Orlando!” After several attempts to interrupt him, she screeched out his name at the very top of her lungs. He stopped mid rant, heaving with the effort, looking for all the world surprised she was still there. She reached out to grab a firm hold on his wrist and yanked him back on the couch next to her.

“Orli…filming hasn’t even started yet and already you’re working yourself straight to a heart attack. Now this Peter Jackson type is a professional, right?” She didn’t wait for an answer. “Right, so he does have some experience in making movies. Don’t you think he knows what kind of people he wants for certain roles? If he’s willing to give you a chance, if he puts faith in you, don’t you think you owe it to him and to yourself to do the same? You are a natural Orlando, you’ve got the talent it takes. Don’t put yourself down. I hate it when you do that.”

Suddenly exhausted, he curled up against her, his forehead resting against her stomach, much like a kitten seeking out its mother’s warmth. She gently stroked his hair, easing out the tension as well as any residual fear.

“How do you do it?”

She looked confused at the question. “Do what?”

“Calm me. Diffuse me. You’re the only one who can, you know?”

She grinned as he looked up at her, all puppy-eyes and pouting lips. Darcy bit her own to still the wave of love she felt for this beautiful man.

“I know sweetie. I think I must be a witch or something.”

He sat up straight and cupped her cheek with one hand. She swallowed, barely stifling a whimper.

“You must be. You thoroughly put me under your spell.”

His thumb traced the soft outline of her lips and every alarm bell in her head went off, but she too was helpless against the current torrent of emotions. So she remained glued to the spot, his caress burning against her sensitive skin, blood rushing through her veins almost audibly.

Maybe it was why she never heard the savage groan escaping from his throat, right before his mouth descended on hers in a kiss that was anything but friendly. If she thought his caress had been burning, she was surely scorched by his kiss. Caught completely off guard, she instinctively responded, opening her mouth at his demand and sinking in deeper, ever deeper.

Reality as well as primal instinct, has a way of creeping up on you. And hitting you hard. Darcy woke up with a start, using the force of sudden realization to push Orlando away from her. He blinked owlishly, once, twice, before stuttering apologies, feeling embarrassed, rejected and sick to his stomach.

What had he done? She was his best friend, for Pete’s sake and judging by her petrified look he had ruined it all now. No more cuddling, no more hugs, no more playful bantering…all lost because he couldn’t keep his hormones separated from his confusion.

Apologies would never be sufficient, but he had to try. Choking back tears of frustration, he whispered:

“Oh God, Darcy. I…I’m so, so sorry. I didn’t know what came over me. Please tell me it won’t change anything between us. I’d hate it if you wouldn’t want to be friends anymore.”

His panic was back with a vengeance but there was nowhere to go this time, as Darcy’s own agitation easily matched his.

No answer came, not a move was made as they avoided each other’s gaze. There was nowhere left to run but right outside. Without thinking, he forced his legs to move through her door, leaving Darcy on the couch with no chance to catch up with him.

The silence he left her with was crushing and she succumbed to its weight, collapsing against the pillow, her upper body wracked with sobs.

So, now what? Are they gonna make up? Find out next chapter. Coming soon, I promise!

You left us with a cliffhanger?! emoticon Well, at least Darcy has Orlando's phone number...
I hope that after Darcy calms down from her sobs, she at least tries to call Orlando
and ask if he can come back so they can talk this out.
It's obvious that both of them share the same feelings for each other!
I mean, why else would Orlando have kissed her like that?
Would Darcy have kissed Orlando back if she wasn't in love too?
I know for a fact that if Orlando ever kissed me, I would have kissed him back
with enough drive to show him that I am in love with him emoticon
Please up-date this as soon as possible! I'll go crazy as a loony bird if you don't emoticon

So...seems like I still attract a certain amount of readers, but I do most sincerily thank both Donna and 'Mzkiwi' for taking the time to review. You guys just rock emoticon !

So this next chapter is dedicated to you!

A f*ckin’ dream come true scenario, that’s what it should have been. Having the confirmation that the man you were head over heels in love with was also swooning over you. Tasting his kiss, sending shivers down your spine…

To go no further. Literally.

After her initial phase of denial had worn off, she had done her research, mostly on the Internet, all about if and how she could function sexually with the damage that was done. Some experts claimed it could be done, that she could even enjoy intercourse, claiming that the part of the nerve system that transported those feelings bypassed her spinal chord. There were no limits, only the boundaries set in her frightened mind. Because of course the all perfectly healthy experts knew exactly how scared she, Darcy, was of even thinking she could have a love-life again.

To her, it was just a lot of useless words. So what if she could technically ‘enjoy herself’ in the bedroom: most men would walk out before taking the humongous effort it would take them. What was she supposed to say to her partner: “Forget about the d*mn Karma freakin’ Sutra and hand me enough pillows to elevate my pelvis? Oh, and if you like my legs wrapped around your torso, would you mind putting them there?” Sure, that would be romantic. About as much as doing it with a blow-up doll.

She had no illusions when it came to having a love life. Not even with Orlando, especially not with him. Right now he saw her as an independent woman, an intelligent adult who simply happened to transport herself on wheels instead of legs. She loved him just for that, for never even mentioning her injuries, overlooking her disadvantages. Of course he helped her when she needed it and of course he could take shameless advantage of her lack of mobility when it suited him, but overall he was her friend.

But he was also a man. A man with the delusion that he was in love with her, but who would nonetheless run as fast as he could in the opposite direction if she were ever to return it. The moment they would land in bed together and she had to give him almost surgical instructions in between the various stages of the act even their romance would be killed in an instant, inevitably taking their friendship in stride.

She couldn’t let it happen. Wouldn’t allow pent up sexual frustration to blemish this amazing friendship they had going on. She loved him enough to want more for him. A normal life with a healthy pretty girl he could take anywhere, show off. A girl whom he could be proud of having at his arm should his acting career ever take off.

Darcy Meehan could never be that girl. A rising star with a paraplegic girlfriend was never going to happen. She would see to that, rather break both their hearts now in order to mend whatever could be salvaged from their friendship than to set them up for the inevitable fall.

She only hoped he wouldn’t shatter too much. She didn’t care about her own heart. It was already beyond salvation.

As for Orlando; he fled to the only safety he had known since childhood; straight back into Sonia’s cozy kitchen. He landed hard on one of the chairs and folded his arms on the table, letting his head rest on top of them, face down, shoulders heaving with the force of his sobs.

He hadn’t cried so hard since Harry Bloom, the man he’d believed to be his father had passed away. Sonia, standing with her back to the kitchen table chopping carrots for dinner on the countertop, reacted like she always did.

“Careful with the furniture Orlando, those chairs won’t repair themselves you know.”

She got no answer, not even an apology, which wasn’t normal for either one of her children. Curious and a little concerned she turned to find her youngest hiding his face in the hollow of his arms, silently shaking. Dropping her knife in an instant, she wiped her hands on her apron and sank down next to him, caressing his dark unruly hair in an ultimate motherly gesture.

“What is it love? You can tell me.”

Stuttering and coughing, he answered her. “Darcy…I…mum I…god I f*cked up.”

Normally, Sonia would scold him for his choice of words, but he was too upset to notice if she did anyway. She just continued to softly stroke him.

It wasn’t like she needed him to tell her what had happened; she could guess. She had witnessed the way her boy and this girl had behaved toward each other, she could read between the lines. Orlando was smitten with the lively Darcy and Sonia was convinced the feeling was mutual. It pained her heart to see it, for as much as she had come to like her tenant, she also witnessed the stubborn streak in her. Darcy Meehan would not allow Orli to actually date her. Not when the decidedly talented not to mention beautiful young man he was could do so much better than her.

Though those were not Sonia’s thoughts, they were surely Darcy’s. It left the older woman with a whole bunch of mixed feelings. Part of her was grateful for the strength of the girl to set her son free and allow him to have a chance at a normal relationship, but right now, a bigger part wanted to strangle said girl for shattering his heart.

When they had grown up, she had worried more about her oldest child than her young one, simply because Sam seemed to be a fragile soul, while Orlando, though accident-prone, seemed to be able to bounce back from practically anything.

How wrong had she been. Her daughter had become a stable mature woman, while her son was a more complex boy. Carefree at one moment, very sensitive the next. He was easy to love, but when it came to giving his love, he could be quite gullible. Something she hoped he would soon grow out of, especially now that he was about to enter the world of glitter and glamour where nothing was presented as it was.

Beneath her touch, he shifted and started talking, his voice muffled by the sleeves of his shirt.

“She was so happy for me mum, she was so convinced I could do this and her own news was just so great. It was just in the heat of the moment and I just…I kissed her. It felt so good and I didn’t wanna stop it either, but she pushed me away. I guess she doesn’t love me like that and I made such a royal idiot out of myself. Mum, what should I do to fix it? Can I fix this at all? Should I stay away from her? The thought alone hurts so much already…I…I don’t know.”

Sometimes she hated being a mother, especially when it meant being the bearer of bad news. But still, Sonia felt he needed to know the truth in order to deal with it, before moving to the other side of the globe to start filming.

“Orli love…I want you to listen to me very carefully now. I need you to understand this very well, okay?”

Curiosity peeked by her serious tone, he looked up at her, eyes still red-rimmed and swollen, but no longer crying. With a nod, he promised his mom he would do as she asked.

“First of all: that young woman loves you and not just as a friend.”

“But…what…how?”

“How do I know? Easy. It’s in the way you interact, flirt, smile, talk, not talk…it’s everywhere in the both of you. But I think she’s afraid. A lot of things have happened to her lately and her world is totally upside down.

Re: Not so easy - a new orlando Bloom story.

Her life as a disabled person must take some huge adjustments and not just practical ones. Emotionally she has to make a fresh start soon and right now she must feel like she’s caught in some kind of tidal wave.”

“But I want to help her with that…we could be so good together!”

“I know you think so dear, but from that pink cloud of yours everything probably feels easy. But it doesn’t change the fact that she is what she is: a paralyzed young women who has to build up her life from scratch. It’s sweet of you to want to help her and of course she’s also a very pretty girl, but wanting to have a physical relationship with her…Orli, I don’t think she’s ready for the implications of such a step.”

“What do you mean by implications? Mum, she’s a beautiful girl who could have any boyfriend she wants to have.”

“Could she? Think about what you’re saying young man. You might not even notice her alternative means of transportation any longer, but most men do. And most men would not want to go through the trouble of dating her.”

“So? That makes those men a bunch of idiots. But I’m not one of them. I’m in love with Darcy for Darcy, despite of her chair.”

“Maybe you are son, but you’re ready to start on a wonderful experience of your own and you’ll be flying to New-Zealand soon. Could you be tied to her now, or to any girl for that matter?”

“Mum, it’s almost the 21st century and New-Zealand is not anywhere on Mars. Besides, some relationships survive the miles between them.”

Guess Darcy wasn’t the only stubborn one. Sonia sighed, trying her hardest to let her last piece of advice make it through her thickheaded son’s head.

“Sweetheart, listen to me. Here’s what I think you should do. You go to the bathroom to get a grip on your emotions and to freshen up. Then you go to her. Talk to her. Get that wonderful friendship back on track. That friendship Orlando, is the foundation of everything else, even if at a later time your relationship would develop into something more.”

“You still think it could?” Poor boy, he sounded so hopeful.

“Like I said, sweetie, this is a very confusing time for her. Maybe, when she feels more comfortable with herself, when she gets adjusted to the fact that this is her new life now, she’ll be more open to explore the possibilities of love. But right now, I can imagine it to be a very big uncomfortable hurdle, one she’s afraid to take, one she’s afraid you’ll regret.”

He sighed, understanding dawning, however much he struggled against it. Darcy was scared. Underneath her strength, her humor, her easy laughter was someone who had to come to terms with a life that would never be the same again. To complicate things by announcing his love for her was unfair to both of them. The thought pained him, but he understood it was the truth now.

So if friendship was all she had to offer him for now, he would gladly take it, he could do no less. And maybe, if his mother was right (and he had never known her not to be right in the end) they could gradually become something more. If only she learned how to really come to grips with her situation and if she ultimately saw he wasn’t going anywhere. At least not without her right there with him.

Taking his mother’s advice he stood, gave her a hug and jogged to the bathroom to wash the tear streaks from his cheeks and to change his clammy shirt for a fresh one. Feeling better already, he bypassed his mom in the kitchen and headed out to face his friend again. He grinned when he saw Sonia give him two thumbs up in silent support.

Re: Not so easy - a new orlando Bloom story.

The knock startled Darcy out of her own sob session. She wasn’t ready to face him again, didn’t know what to say. But if she refused him entrance it would be the first time she did so and the thought was too much to bear.

“Door’s open, Orlando.”

The hesitance with which he shuffled in was unnerving and for a moment, neither seemed to know how to proceed from there. Darcy swallowed, then luckily found her voice back.

“It’s okay, sweetie. I won’t bite your head off.”

To underline her point, she opened her arms to him and he made a beeline to her, folding her in his embrace, holding her close.

“I’m sorry, Darcy love, so sorry. I don’t wanna push you or force you or anything. I just…is it so wrong of me to love you?”

She sighed. Here goes nothing.

“Orli…look at me, love.”

When she was sure she got his undivided attention, she gathered all her strength to give him the hardest speech she ever had to give.

“It’s not wrong of you to love me. I love you too, you know. But it’s that same love that forces me to let you go. I can’t sugarcoat my situation, love. And when it comes to having a relationship, a real one, one that involves a sex-life, than it is not something I think I can put you through. When it comes to friendship, I’ll give you everything I have, gladly. I know you’ll return it. But I won’t put you through the frustration of a complicated love-life. I believe that the moment we would try and make this relationship a sexual one, we’ll kill our friendship. And I would die without that Orlando.”

Damn it hurt. Prepared as he thought he had been by his mother’s speech, it still felt like somebody had struck a knife in his heart and kept on twisting it.

“So would I Darcy. But I have to ask: is there any way I could change your mind? Anything I could do or say?”

“There probably would be. I have no doubt sooner or later I would succumb to your charm. But I beg you Orlando, I seriously beg you not to try. To be happy with all I have to offer and not to ask for more. I know it’s hard and I can tell I’m breaking your heart. Believe me, I’m shattering my own in the process, but I can’t give you what I don’t have. I can’t give you a healthy normal love-life. So I won’t put either one of us through that struggle when it wasn’t supposed to be a struggle to begin with. Please tell me you understand.”

“I do understand your fear Darcy and if I really have to, I’ll back off. I guess I’ll just have to come to terms with the fact I’ll have to live a celibate life at the tender age of 22.”

Her face turned a bright red with pure anger. Thanks for the guilt-trip Mr. Bloom.

“Bull.”

“Pardon me?”

“You heard me. Don’t add guilt to my growing list of pain, you moron. I never said I expected you to become a bloody monk, so don’t act like a freakin’ martyr on my behalf. There are probably dozens of willing, normal healthy girls out there who would want you. And if this movie catches on, those numbers will only increase. So don’t bloody well dare blame me in advance for your self-chosen abstinence, because I never caused it.”

His own anger matched hers easily.
“So you actually think I’m just gonna turn away from you and shag the first woman that comes around just because I can? How f*ckin’ shallow do you think I am?”

“Stop twisting my words around. I never said you should just screw the brains out of any woman. I just don’t expect you to lock yourself up in a tower feeling sorry for yourself when there’s a whole big world out there waiting for you. And who knows, you might fall in love again. And I won’t stop you if you do.”

God, he didn’t want this, any of this. Not the conversation itself, not the heartache, not the devastating realization she was probably right. He didn’t want her to be right. Not when it felt so horribly wrong.

“I don’t think I’ll fall in love again, I’m not even sure I want to.”

“Maybe not now, but you never know, Orli. And when you do, just know I’ll be happy for you.”

“Liar.” He managed a watery smile and she smiled back, knowing he had her there.

“Okay, so I won’t be happy, but I won’t stand in your way. I want you to be happy, Orlando. If you believe nothing else that was said between us today, at least believe that. Ultimately, I’m fighting for your chance of happiness now.”

There was nothing left to say to that. So he didn’t. He would just go to New-Zealand, put all he had into the part of Legolas, and see where they were when he got home.

Again, he pulled her into his arms and she stayed there willingly.

“I’ll miss you when I’m gone.”

“I’ll miss you too. But I’m also very proud of you. And I know you’ll be just wonderful.”

“Stay in touch?”

“Of course.”

“Friends?”

“Best friends.”

He grazed her lips with the softest kiss ever and a silent tear ran down her cheek, knowing this was him saying goodbye, not just to her, but to the illusion of what could have been between them. He swallowed hard. His breath hitched when he spoke again.

“I love you, Darcy.”

“I love you too, Orlando.”

He lingered for just a while longer, before he forced himself out, feeling empty and drained.

In the two weeks remaining until he had to leave, things were so hectic they didn’t have much time to dwell on things. Darcy had her first meeting with the publishing agency and she was glad it was Sam who volunteered to drive her to the office.

The meeting went well. They indicated what they liked about her concept and presented some changes. Some of them she liked, but two of them she refused. Her Wendy was a child and so was her friend Andy. She would not turn her into a teenager. There were enough big-boobed cartoon heroines to go around. And she would not fall in love with Andy; the situation would become too close for comfort to her own.

After coming to an agreement, they promised her they would set up a first draft of a contract and send it to her by courier. She could have it checked out by a lawyer first, then sign if she still wished to.

Re: Not so easy - a new orlando Bloom story.

Orli hardly showed himself. He busied himself with rereading the books, trying to prepare himself as best as he could for a role that could hardly be described as human. Plus, if he were honest, he did everything he could to avoid Darcy. Even if they had talked things over, the pain was still nagging in his mind and he didn’t want to make things worse.

Still, when August 28th, the day of the first step of his adventure arrived he was being taken to Heathrow by no less than four females: His grandmother, his mother, his sister and Darcy, though the last one tagged along reluctantly for several reasons.

It wasn’t just the obvious one; though their separation might be a good one as the distance might allow them both to breathe a bit more easily, it was also because the hustle of the busy airport simply wasn’t meant for the disabled, no matter how many measures were taken. It was her very first appearance in a huge crowd other than the local supermarket or post office and soon she felt she was drowning. With her eyes she begged Sam to take over the chair and she let out a sigh of relief when firm hands gripped the handlebars.

But when she half-turned to thank her, she found a nervously smiling Orlando, who had left his sister in charge of handling his suitcases. He steered her purposefully away from the crowd to a rather secluded corner. There, he put the chair on its breaks and crouched in front of her, wrapping her in a huge hug. Despite of her resolve, she clung to him like a refugee to a lifeguard.

“Sorry, Darcy, but I needed just one more moment for the two of us. I’ll miss you so much.”

“I’ll miss you too.”

“Promise me you won’t forget to send me the first signed copy of Wendy, okay?”

“Of course I promise. Now you promise you’ll call, regardless of the time difference.”

“As much as I can, love.”

“Good. Now stop this bawling session before we cause a scene, not to mention a tsunami. You still have to say goodbye to your family.”

Reluctantly he let go of her, but managed to plant a soft but firm kiss on her lips. Within not even an hour, he was gonna be separated from her for over a year and he was taking his very last chance to get as much love from her as he could. And if he would come back still in love with her, he would not let her direct their possible love-life on her own. He would charm, he would beg, he would grovel, but basically, he would get her. Period. But she didn’t need to know that now, right?

They stalled their final farewell for as long as they could, but the inevitable last call for his flight came anyway. He waved for as long as the party of four woman remained visible, then went through customs by himself. He sighed and held his head up high. His adventure was about to begin.

On the other side of the airport, Darcy slumped in her chair. She didn’t even notice Sonia pushing her out the doors back to the parking lot. She was too busy fighting tears.

Orlando was gone.

Patiently waiting for your judgment...Till next time!
