Re: The Secret
Orlando's POV
As I walked out onto the porch, I had just opened my mouth to speak, when Miranda held up one perfectly manicured hand, stopping me.
"Don't." She said softly. "Don't feel guilty."
"But, how did you kn-I mean..I know that you but-"
"Hickey." She said, and I sware I saw the smallest hint of a laugh in her eyes.
"Oh...right erm I..."
"Orlando, sit down."
At this point, I was too bumfuzzled to do anything but follow orders. Sitting down beside her on the swing, I looked over.
"Remember last night, I told you I wanted to talk to you?"
I nodded.
"I was going to end it. Not becuase I don't care about you, or anything like that...it's just...I saw the way you look at her. And...even though I don't think you realized it...any objective person can tell your in love with her, and that she feels the same way. But I'm glad you finally figured it out."
"Y-your not mad?"
"Not in the least."
"And you knew I was in love with her all along."
"Yeah...I noticed the first time I saw you two together."
"Could you maybe have clued me in?" I laughed.
Her laughter matched mine as she slugged me softly in the arm. "I think it was something you had to figure out on your own love."
"Yeah...I probably would have told you that you were off your bloody rocker."
"Probably." She laughed. "So...mates?"
I smiled. "Mates."
"Great, now I should get out of here, and let you to bond." She teased.
"I'll see you later Miranda."
She smiled, and nodded, waving as she drove off. I heard someone approach, and looked back to see Breana in the door.
"Did I actually hear you two laughing?"
"She was going to dump me...last night." I laughed, turning around.
"Why?"
"Because she said she knew I was in love with you."
"She's not mad?"
"She's actually happy for us." I smiled.

Re: The Secret
Breana's POV
I couldn't believe she'd actually taken it so well. I smiled, and wrapped my arms around Orlando's neck, kissing him softly. It still felt a bit strange, but strange enough that I wanted it to ever end.
"Ewwwww!" Was the sound that made me pull away from Orlando. I turned to the see the girls with the most comical expressions I'd ever seen them bare. Mandy's nose was all scrunched up in a disgusted face, and Holly looked surprised. "Why are you kissing Breana daddy?" She shrieked. Orlando let go of me, and bent down in front of his daughters. "Girls...Breana and I are together now."
"What about Melissa and Uncle Dom?"
"Miranda." Orlando corrected gently. "It's complicated...it's something you'll understand when your older."
That seemed to satisfy them, and they both shrugged, with Holl announcing they were hungry. I laughed, and started breakfast.

Re: The Secret
Breana's POV
Several had passed since our vacation, and we'd fallen into an easy routine. I rarely went into the office, but instead, worked from home, to help Orlando with the girls. Mandy had started kindergarden, so Holly was the only one running around the house during the days. I had just finished making lunch, when I got a call from Mandy's school.
"Hello?" I answered, taking a sandwitch into Orlando's office for him.
"Mrs Bryant?"
"Yes?" I answered.
"Did you send someone to pick up Mandy early?"
"No, why?" I said worriedly.
"Did Mr. Bloom send anyone?"
"I don't think so. Hold on." I walked back into Orlando's office, covering the reciever. "Orly?"
"Yeah, what is it babe?" He said, not looking away from the computer.
"Did you send someone to pick up Mandy?"
"No, of course not. We always pick her up."
"I know that." I said, and he finally looked up.
"Then why do you ask love?"
"Because, someone just called from Mandy's school." I said, turning back to the phone. "Who picked her up?" I asked, frightened.
"A gentleman. He said he'd that you had sent him to pick her up."
"What was his name."
"Mr.Carl... Bennet. I think he said. Do you know him?"
"You let him take her?" I shrieked, and Orlando looked up at me.
"What is it Breana?"
I dropped the phone, looking over at him.
"Breana, you look like you've seen a ghost. Tell me what's wrong. Carl...he..."
"That's impossible. He's in jail."
"He knows people Orlando. He knows people that would do anything he said. The receptionist said that a Mr.Bennet picked Mandy up, and said that we had sent him."
"Why would he use Carl's name?"
"He want me to know he had something to do with it." I said.
"W-what does he want?"
"Me." I said, my voice shaking. I picked up the phone, hanging up on the school, and dialing the jail's number. "Hi, may I speak to Carl Bennet's officer, please?" They connected me, and a familar voice answered. "Ms.Bryant?"
"Yes. I was wondering if I could talk to Carl."
"I'm sorry that I haven't got around to calling you..."
"What are you talking about?"
"Carl escaped. Yesterday. Why are you calling now?"
"M-m.." I trailed off, and Orlando took the phone.
"He has my daughter. The school called to ask if we had someone pick up Mandy, and we of course told her no. Anyone who works for me is authorized to pick her up, but no one ever does. Breana or I always pick her up. She said a gentleman, claiming to work for me, named Mr.Bennet picked her up today."

Re: The Secret
"We'll put as many officers as we can spare on this, I promise you. He's my responsibility. I'll find him." The officer said, and hung up. I heard the end of the conversation, and got up, grabbing the keys.
"Where are you going?" Orlando said, following me.
"I have to find him before the police do. If he finds out the police are involved he'll..." I shuttered, not finishing my sentance.
"What about Holly?" Orlando said.
"You're staying here with her."
"You are crazy. I'm not letting you face him alone."
I groaned, and walked over, putting my hands on his face, and kissing him. "You have to let me do this Orlando. I got us into this."
"You didn't do anything Bre, don't blame yourself."
"I'm not. But it is my responsibility to get her away from him. You need to stay here, and make sure the same thing doesn't happen to Holly." I said, leaving before he could argue again.
I had no idea where to look. He could be anywhere. I drove around, trying to think. I remembered a trip we took, right after our engagement, to visit a friend of his. His friend....oh what was his name....Matt! Matt....Greenwood. That was it, Matt Greenwood. He had been visiting New York at the time, and we'd flown from Kentucky to New York to see him. But he had lived in London...I remembered the accent. I picked up my cell phone, calling information.
"Yes, can I have an address for Matthew Greenwood, please?" I asked, writing it down as it was given to me. I looked at the address, as I hung up, trying to figure out where it was. When I figured it out, I drove in that direction.
When I found the house, I realized it looked like any other house on the block. Decorated with Christmas lights for the upcoming season. I parked my car, and rushed up the sidewalk. Mandy, please, please be here. I whispered to myself, ringing the doorbell. A young woman, probably...early thirties opened the door. "Are you Mrs. Greenwood?" I asked, hopeful.
"Yes?" She said, leaning against the door. She didn't look like an accomplice to kidnapping. She looked like a typical house mom.
"I'm...Breana. I'm..." I swallowed hard as the words surface. "Carl's wife. Is he here?"
Her eyes lit up with recognition, but her face suddenly turned hard. "Yes, come on in." She said, opening the door. I nearly cried as I seen Mandy sitting on the couch, eating popcorn, and watching tv with the Greenwood kids. She was unharmed. She didn't even look scared. I ran over, scooping her up in my arms. "Are you okay?" I asked.
"I'm fine Breana. I was wondering when you were coming to get me." She said, as if annoyed that I was late, or something.
"What do you mean?" I asked confused.
"That man said that he worked for daddy, and that you were going to pick me up here at lunchtime. You are late." She said, folding her arms.
"I'm sorry sweetheart. I didn't know he had picked you up." I said. "I'll be right back, okay?"
"Where is he?" I said through gritted teeth.
"Guest bedroom. Take it easy on him...atleast he brought her here."
"Take it easy on him? He kidnapped her!" I said, in a whisper shriek, walking through the house, guessing where the guest bedroom was. Sure enough, when I opened the door, there he was, sprawled across the bed like nothing was wrong, watching tv.
"Are you insane?" I ranted. "It's one thing when it's me your picking on, but her? She's an innocent little girl Carl!"
"I had to get your attention somehow." He said, shrugging, still not looking at me.
"Seriously? I said, fuming, walking over, and turning off the televison.
"Look, I've thought about us alot while I was away?" He said, standing up. "I'm sorry. I was wrong. I shouldn't have hurt you like that." He said, reaching over, and tucking my hair behind my ear. I jerked away, walking away so I could get some space from him.
"Hurt me? You nearly killed me Carl!"
"I know, and I'm sorry baby." He said, walking closer, but this time, he seemed to give me space. "I've changed. Please, just come home with me, and let me show you I've changed."
"First of all, Carl...if you had changed, you wouldn't have kidnapped Mandy today. And second of all, I wouldn't go home with you. Ever."
"We're married Bre...can't you give me another chance. You know...for better and worse, until death do us part...all of that?" He said, stepping closer, but surprisingly, I didn't feel threatened. "I do love you....you know that."
"Our vows went out the window the first time you laid a hand on me Carl." I said, looking up at him. "And even if that's true. It would never work. I don't love you." I said, hoping it wouldn't cause him to snap.
"Did you ever love me?" He said, glancing up at me.
"I...I don't know. I used to tell myself I didn't because...then it was easier to understand why you hit me. I'd...decieved you...or...something." I shrugged.
"You blamed yourself?" He asked, looking shocked.
"Most of the time. How could I not? You told me over and over it was my fault."
"Oh...I guess I did...didn't I?" He sighed.
"Wow...you really are...sorry, aren't you?"
He nodded, with a bitter laugh. "Come here." He said. "Let me see if...I can explain this." Reaching for my hand. Despite myself, I took his hand, and he led me over, sitting on the edge of the bed with me, releasing my hand. "You know how...with an alchoholic...or a drug addict...that substance controls them?"
I nodded, and watched as he looked ashamed. "My anger...my rage...at everything controlled me. Something at work or...even something as simple as the Wildcats losing a game..." He chuckled. "It would set me off."
"I know Carl...I was there."
"That's what I'm saying. You were there. You were the nearest person that I could take my rage out on. And when you left....well that made me angry, and I felt like I had to come after you. But...having me arrested...that was truly the best thing you could have done for me. I got...counsling....and I really am diffrent."
"Carl, you kidnapped Orlando's daughter, and broke out of jail."
He chuckled, looking embarassed. "Promise not to laugh if I tell you something?" He said, the boyish grin appearing that had first drawn me to him.
I smiled involentarily. "Promise."
"I broke out because I thought....I had this wild fantasy that...I would take the kid...you would come here...forgive me...we'd take her home, and we'd run off to Mexico."
"You were never going to hurt her?"
"No." He shrugged.
"What would have happenned if I didn't come?"
"I would have turned myself in."
"Why?"
"Because...I won't let Matt and Missy be convicted for harboring a fugative." He said as if were obvious, then suddenly, he turned serious. "Do you love him?"
I nodded. "Yeah...I do. But how did you know we were...how did you even know Mandy existed?"
He grinned sheepishly. "I watched you two last night. You know, you should always close your blinds."
I glared at him. "Okay, you've had enough time to talk. What are we going to do now?"
"You, and the kid are going home. And I'm heading for Mexico." He chuckled. "With, or without you."
"What story do I give the police?"
"You remembered I had a friend in London, you came here, Mandy was here, but I was gone." He shrugged. "Unless you want to tell the truth. That you had a heart to heart with your ex-husband."
"Ex?" I said hopeful.
"I told you I'd changed." he reached into the drawer, and handed me a blue folder. "These are the papers your lawyer sent to the jail. They are signed and ready to go."
I turned to him, and smiled. "Thank you Carl." I said, standing up from the bed. "And thank you for taking care of her." I said, glancing towards the door. "Those kids mean the world to me." I said, walking towards the door.
"Hey Bre?"
"Hmm?" I said, turning around.
"Make sure he's good to you. You deserve someone who is good to you."
I smiled "He is wonderful to me Carl. Thank you." I said, and walked out. "Come on Mandy-bug, let's go home."
"It's about time!" She sighed. "Thank you ma'am." She said politely to Missy.
"It was no problem." Missy smiled, then turned to me. "No mexico?" She said. Clearly, Carl had told them the plan.
I shook my head. "No Mexico. I'm fine right here in London. Thank you again Missy." I said, taking Mandy's hand, and walking out to my car.

Re: The Secret
Breana's POV
As soon as I stepped out of the car, and got Mandy out, Orlando ran outside, scooping her up into his arms, as Holly trailed along cluelessly behind him. "Daddy? What's wrong?" Mandy asked, looking at him strangly. Orlando glanced towards me, and I shook my head. "Nothing Dee...I just missed you, that's all." He said, sitting her down. "Go play with your sister please." He said, rushing them inside. As soon as they were out of sight, he pulled me into his arms, kissing me deeply. I wrapped my arms around his neck, as he finally pulled away, burrying his face in my neck. "Don't you ever do that to me. Run off like that. I was so afraid I was going to lose you both. That awful man...I was so afraid he was going to take both of you away from me." he said, and I could feel tears streaming down his face, and landing on my neck.
"He didn't touch her Orlando." I said softly. "He was trying to get my attention." I said, cradeling the man I loved in my arms. "He's gone." I whispered.
"He...He didn't hurt you?" Orlando asked, pulling away slightly so he could see into my eyes.
"No." I said, leaning in, and kissing him. "He had some...wild idea that if he could get my attention, he could get me to leave with him. He's changed, Orlando. He really wanted me to go with him. And not..not like before." She shrugged. "I told him my heart belonged to you, and he gave me the divorce papers."
"You let him get away? Are you insane?" Orlando said, pulling away. "He nearly killed you Breana! He kidnapped my daughter! He's a criminal. And you what? Yout just let him escape!" Orlando fumed, letting go, and backing away completley.
"You weren't there, Orlando. You didn't see him. He's changed."
"I don't care if he's bloody Mother Theresa, Breana! He took my daughter from her school. Kidnapped her. He could have killed her, and you let him escape! It would have been perfect, the police would have arrested him."
"He's been arrested Orlando! What good did that do us?" I argued back. "Those kids in there are the most important people in the world to me. If I thought they were in any danger, at all, I wouldn't have let him go. Come on, surely you know me better than that."
"I don't know you at all Breana. Because the girl I know...we're fighting on the same side." He said, walking in, slamming the door behind him.
