Re: Somersault
Hey, sorry for the delay! So, yeah... Hope it's ok!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter four: New destination
"Hi! You've reached Colin and Sonia Stone. We're not home right now, but if you leave a message with your name and phone number, we'll ring you back as soon as possible."
Beep
"Mum it's me..." Orlando couldn't believe they weren't home. "Just calling for my weekly update and to umm... well, I'm at the airport. I'm letting you guys know that there's been a change in plans and that I'll be heading home sooner than expected. So...don't worry, I'm fine. I'll let you know when I get to Heathrow. Well...bye"
The airport was oddly empty that day, which was a good thing since Orlando wasn't at his best mood. He really didn't want to be recognized, photographed or stared at. He just wanted to leave Los Angeles and everything that remotely reminded him of Miranda.
Looking all scruffy with his trademark black jeans and sweater, gray scarf and worn boots; he stood in front of the check-in counter. There was no one around to sell him his ticket back to London and he was growing impatient.
"Hello?"
Still deserted.
It was as if every employee was taking a break and didn't seem to mind that the counter was unattended. Orlando laughed amazed at the service that he was getting.
"Unbelievable. This is great." He shook his head in disbelief, turned around, picked up his big backpack, grabbed his wheel suitcase and began to leave, when all of the sudden:
"Yes, may I help you?" An upbeat voice was heard behind him.
Orlando stopped completely annoyed. He rolled his eyes and turned around again. The man offered a mega watt smile but Orlando just replied with a neutral expression. Slowly his feet led him back to the counter and as soon as he dropped his luggage back on the ground he asked with an exasperated sigh:
"What is your first flight to Heathrow airport in London?"
"Let me just check here..." The man clicked away on his computer while Orlando scratched his hair, not caring how messy it would look afterwards. "The soonest flight to London departs at 7:50 tonight."
Orlando quickly searched for his watch. "1:16?? Great." It was clear that he wanted to leave as soon as he could. Heck, he practically running away from L.A.
He then stopped and evaluated the situation. Was he even sure that this was the right thing to do? To flee? So then he tought everything through. He pictured Miranda: so beautifull and perfect with her green eyes, sweet smile and long, redish brown hair. She was so dazzling, he always tought of her as an angel.
But that wasn't the case.
He tried to shake off that image and quickly saw his dear mom. Unlike other girls, of course she would be there for him. Cooking for him, doing his laundry and letting him fall asleep with his head on her lap, like when he was a boy. But the truth was: he was not a boy anymore. He was a 31 year old man! Without noticing, he hadn't been acting like it at that moment.
"What am I doing?" He asked himself.
"Excuse me, sir." The disturbingly perky voice interrupted. "Were you going to buy a ticket or not?"
There was an obvious confussion in Orlando's eyes.
"I don't know yet. Can you just...stay here while I make a call? I'll be back in a minute."
"I won't leave my post."
Orlando untrustingly squinted his eyes at his response.
"Of course you won't. Please watch my bags while I return." He wanted to make sure that he would indeed stay "at his post".
"No problem-o!"
"Thanks mate."
Orlando walked away until he felt safe to make a call without anyone eavesdropping. As he dialed the numbers, he discarted the possibility of going to London. If this was a tough situation, he had to handle it on his own. Suck it up and smile.
After all, he knew that the first things that Sonia would be curious about was going to be his relationship with "the pretty model", as she called Miranda. And he knew that he didn't want to explain his heartbreak to anyone. Not even his own mother. It would be better to wait some time before discussing his break-up with the folks. Definetly better.
He punched the numbers quickly and held it to his ear as soon as it started to ring.
"I never tought I'd live to see the day when Mr. Orlando Bloom would call." A friendly, girly voice spoke from the other end.
It was nice to hear a person with such enthusiasm, specially when he had none.
"What do you mean? I've called you a bunch of times."
"Yeah. Whenever you're in trouble! So tell me: what have you gotten yourself into now?"
"Well...you'll be glad to hear that I'm at the airport with no destination whatsoever and I was wondering if you had a suggestion."
Every now and then he would glance back at the clerk who was keeping to his promise, since he hadn't moved a muscle.
David knew who the traveler was. He had been star-struck since he had seen Orlando looking around for someone and asking "hello". It had been one of those moments where he couldn't move as soon as he recognized his star crush standing there, in front of the counter.
He admired him from a distance as he gabbed away on his cell phone and took discreet opportunities to investigate from afar Orlando's bags. They were so ordinary, but so amazing. He sighed as he imagined the actor on vacation, somewhere in the Caribbean, shirtless and buff.
Suddently, when he noticed that Orlando had put away his phone and was making his way back, he cleared his throat and smiled once again.
"Heathrow, London?" He, yet again, asked.
Orlando smiled brightly and shook his head playfuly.
"JFK, New York."
Re: Somersault
Chapter five: A mayor minor
"Wakey-wakey!!" Coral had crawled unto Natalie's bed and was trying to wake her up with a sing-song voice and by tickling her nose with a pen. But her attempts failed, since all Natalie did was groan and strecht out more. "Nat?" The frustration was begginig to creep inside and so Coral sat up straight and pounded on the plush, goose down bed and screamed: "Hey Nat!!"
Natalie's eyes burst open with the fright that Coral gave her. It was one of those moments were Natalie was reminded how much of a crazy person Coral actually was.
"What the hell, Coral?" Her voice was groggy and hoarse. At first it was not that annoying for her, but as soon as she heard Coral stiffling a laugh she got up and picked up the first obejct she could lay her hands on (which was her cell phone) and threw it to her.
"Whoa!" Coral exclaimed as she fell from the edge of the bed after trying to dodge it. She landed with a tremendous "thump" on the hard, wooden floors.
"Oh, sh*t! Coral?" Natalie rushed out of bed, wearing nothing but her underwear, to see if her friend had suffered any injuries. Her shoulder dropped and her heart sunk to her stomach when she witnessed what was in front of her. Coral was just laying there, face down and zero movement. It couldn't have been that stupid! To turn unconscious just by falling off a bed?
Quickly, Natalie tried to wake her up. Slapping her on the face didn't work, neither did shaking her up a bit. "Coral?" This couldn't be happening. "Coral?!"
Natalie's voice was breaking and her desperation was becoming even more obvious. A single tear started to make its way down her cheek as she saw no hope in waking her up at that moment.
"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God." Her mind was pacing through uncertainty, since she had absolutely no clue what to do in situations like these.
Sure, dozens of movies had those types of scenes, but when you're the one acting in them, your brain just goes on this loading mode. Everything is going way too fast for it and you're desperately trying to keep up with reality. But in real life, you're just stuck.
Suddenly, like a light iluminating her fog, she had an idea.
"Ok, I'll call for help. I'll call for help!" She looked around desperately. "Let me see...where's my cellphone?"
It was a miserable try, since her phone was banged up pretty bad in a corner somewhere, after having thrown it, to the now unconscious Coral.
"Damn it! Stupid..."
Then, another bright one popped on her mind.
"Your phone, Coral. Where's your phone?"
The search went on and on, until she found it inside her leather bag. Without thinking, she dialed the last number that was registered on the call log and anxiously awaited for an answer. Finally...
"Hello?"
"Yes! Hello, listen Coral's in trouble! I'm freaking out here and I...I...have absolutely no idea what to do, man! She's probably with a concusion, don't know if it's serious---"
Right then, Natalie heard something unsual. It sounded like... a giggle. A ridiculous, evil and obnoxious giggle. The expression on Natalie's face was picture worthy. She wasn't sure what to think. With her mouth wide open and her slowly blinking eyes, she stared at Coral as she turned around with a wicked wicked smile on her face.
"Hello! Are you alright? How's Coral? Hello, hello..." The voice on the other end was now seriously worried. But with the twist and turn of events, Natalie had dropped the phone. If it hadn't been for the long silence that was being created by both girls, Natalie wouldn't have heard the person practically yelling through the phone.
With an awakening jolt, she picked up Coral's cell phone and held it to her ear. She raised an eyebrow at Coral as she took a deep breath and starting talking.
"I am so sorry for the inconvenience. It seems that our little Coral is quite the prankster. See, she pretended to be dead while I was losing my f***ing mind!!"
And she hung up with a furious look in her eyes. But Coral didn't seem to mind. Quite the contrary: she was resting on the floor, lifting herself with her left arm. And she still had that detestable smile plastered across her face.
"I got you good, didn't I?"
That phrase almost made Natalie loose her cool. So she took a deep breath and as she exhaled, she forced a smile.
"Yeah...and you're a b*tch." Natalie stood up in a ladylike manner and made her way to the bathroom ignoring that Coral was still on the floor, who was now bursting in laughter.
Natalie slammed the door behind her and started the shower.
"Natie, come on! It was a joke!" Coral followed her to the bathroom and stood in front of the door. "A...joke!" She wanted to emphasize that it had been all just for fun. At least for her.
The door burst open with the steam of the shower floating towards the entire bedroom and making it difficult to define Natalie's face, although it was clear that she was standing there with her arms crossed.
"Coral, you can go straight to hell! That was not even close to being funny!"
Coral raised her arms in surrender.
"Ok, ok. I admit: it was a bit much. Sorry."
"Hmmm..."
"Will you be my friend again?"
Natalie laughed as she shook her head.
"You're f***ing insane, did you know that?"
"Yep! That's what I'm told every day." Coral could now catch a glimpse of her standing with a smile drawn on her lips. "You know what?"
"What?"
"I think you're water's just about right."
"Oh right!"
Natalie undressed and jumped in the shower and as soon as she did, she started singing. To Coral's surprise, she didn't sound bad. Not bad at all! But she quickly noticed was that she was doing in come language that she could not understand.
"Hey, hon? What the hell are you singing?"
"Oh!" She giggled. "It's french."
"Ooh la la! Since when do you speak french? I missed that part!"
"Um... while I was studying to be a teacher in college, I decided to take French as a minor. And so now I'm both!"
"French teacher...nice!" Coral leaned against the door frame.
"Yeah."
"Oh! Speaking of catching up: The guys want to meet up with you."
"The guys?!" Natalie hadn't heard that title in a while. "They're all still here??"
"Yep! And they wanted you to meet them tonight at the spanish place at 361 Greenwich street, "Flor de sol". Whatever that means..."
They both laughed almost in unison.
"It means "flower of the sun", C."
"Oh come on!"
"What?"
"You speak spanish too? That's so not fair!"
"Well..." Natalie peeked her head through the curtain. "What can I say? It is my second language."
"I'm sure you use that to reel guys in."
Natalie laughed again, but this time in an uproar.
"Like shooting fish in a barrel!" That was purely sarcastic.
"Hell yeah!"
"Um, ok. Coral, what time did the guys say?"
"Oh, I see. Changing subjects on me now?"
"What time?"
"8 o'clock."
"Thank you!"
"You're welcome, you lucky trilingual b*tch!"
"Hey!"
"Well, you are."
Re: Somersault
Hello there! This is the new chapter, hope you guys like it! And hope you like it so far.
Chapter six: "The guys"
Natalie got out of the shower feeling incredibly uplifted. The sole idea of meeting "the guys" had put her in a great mood. They always found a way to bring her back to life. Which was exactly what she needed after a week or so of being back home. Well, at least in Coral's apartment.
It was great being with friends like her again. But nothing would compare to them. They were unique, delightful, lovable, cute...you name it! Besides to Bo, her heart had always belonged to them and she couldn't deny it. Absolutely not! They've had too much history together and she had missed out on a lot as well. So, she was determined to make up for lost time and be a part of them again.
With the water dripping from her body, she stood in front of the mirror to examine how much she had changed in her four years of absence. Natalie tilted her head and eyed every inch of her naked self.
"Hmmm..."
Her hair was longer; down to the widest part of her back, she had cut her bangs and the color was slightly darker since her old highlights had faded. She was definetly skinnier and much more tonned from all the yoga that she did.
Now, the rest was quite the same. Her eyes were still hazel, her nose still cute with a rounded tip, her lips still heart shaped and her breast still a bit large for her taste. She had never liked them like that, but that's what her mom had given her. The good thing about that was that she didn't have to get surgery any time soon.
"That's some money that I'll be saving!" She thought with a smile. "Now, what's Coral up to?"
Natalie exited the bathroom with a towel wrapped around herself and her hair still dripping wet. She headed directly to the kitchen where she was certain to find her. Evidenly, there she was. All dressed up to go to work in her hot-shot publicist outfit: a denim pencil skirt with a white ruffled tanktop tucked in, multiple golden bangles and a pair of turquoise killer heels to tie it all together. And although she was no size 0 or 2 for that matter, she looked full and beautiful. She was what people might call: "heavy", but to Natalie, she was "confident". Sometimes she would envy how comfortable Coral was in her size 8 clothes and how she never fussed over what she ate. Natalie on the other hand, was extremely careful of what she put in her stomach, being a vegetarian and all.
Coral was eyeing the fridge without noticing that she was being watched.
"Morning!" Natalie exclaimed.
That made Coral jump and look behind her and inmediately sigh in relief.
"Was that some sort of payback?"
"Yep!" She rested her elbows on the counter and her chin on her hands.
"Well, good. Guess we're even?"
"Hmm...don't know yet." They both smiled at one another and then Coral continued to rumage the fridge. "What are you doing?"
"I'm looking for the milk." She continued until she reached the bottom and had to kneel in front of the fridge.
"Oh, honey you finished it last night with your box of oreo's."
Coral stood up and looked at Natalie with a puzzled look.
"Did I?"
Natalie smiled and nodded with her eyes closed in reassurance.
"Sh*t! Nat, am I getting old?"
"Oh please!"
Right then Coral's phone began to ring from her purse that was on her couch and she rushed to answer it.
"Coral Berryman, publicist. Oh, hey! Sure, I'm on my way. See ya later!"
"Anyone important?" Natalie asked as she looked at her from her stool.
"Nah! Just one of my bosses."
"That reminds me!" Natalie snaped her fingers. "This morning, when you had your little fake concusion, I called someone for help as you might have heard."
"Yeah." She laughed at the memory.
"Not funny. Anyways...who did I call? 'Cause I kind of feel bad about hanging up on them without knowing who they were."
Coral tried to smirk without lookin at her, but Natalie caught up on it.
"What?"
"If I told you would freak out."
"Oh come on! I'll freak out if you don't tell me."
She looked at her watch and made an exagerated look.
"My goodness! Would you look at the time? I have to go..." Coral put her cell phone back inside her purse and let it hang from her shoulder.
"You are such a liar!"
Coral walked towards Natalie and kissed her head, winked at her, like she always did and made her way to the door. Just as she was about to open the door she turned around to face Natalie who sat there looking dissapointed.
"You know what? I think you should go out today! It's sunny and warm out. Maybe do some shopping for your little get together tonight with the guys, at that restaurant with the name I can't pronounce!"
"Sure!" That was by far the most hypocritical answer she had given to anyone in a long time. She didn't like the idea of "shopping". All those people following you around in the stores asking to see of you needed anything, angry co-shoppers, cramped "sale" racks... it was enough to drive her insane. But then she thought about it: she could rough it up for the guys. She wanted to look pretty for them! And nothing screamed "pretty" from her old clothes, except the black dress she wore for Bo's funeral and she was most definetly not wearing that, that night.
"I know you don't like it, but think about it! Okay?"
"No, no, no! I'll go. Don't worry, I'll go."
"Cool! Bye, bye darling!"
"Bye!"
Then she heard the door close.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Natalie returned from her exhausting day at about 6 o'clock. Not even she could believe that she had spent an entire day outside the apartment. That actually made her a bit proud of herself. Besides, it wasn't like she wasted it all away in silly shopping, but she took the opportunity to tour the city in search of an apartment of her own.
There were a few prospects. Some looked good, some looked really good and other were just perfect but way too expensive for her to maintain. So, at the end of the day she returned with a whole new outfit for dinner and a few possiblities to live in.
When she reached Coral's building, as exhausted as she was, Landon the doorman was standing there just as she had first seen him. And boy, did he look adorable in his uniform! Natalie thought that he should've been a model or something, because he was far too cute to just stand there opening doors.
"Hey!" She sounded incredibly perky, which it even shocke her.
"Hello there...Natalie, right?" His voice was soft and just as cute as his appearance.
"Natalie Martin" She extended her hand to greet him properly.
"Oh! Excuse me then. Miss Martin."
"And you're Landon, right?" Of course she remembered his name.
"Yes m'am."
They both hadn't noticed that they were still holding hands, until a cab drove by honking his horn at someone. He laughed nervously and she took the opportunity to flee.
"Well, see ya around!"
"Very well, Miss Martin."
They both continued on as if nothing had happened. It had all been just a childish flirting and they both knew that it wouldn't lead anywhere, could it?
"Of course, not!" She said to herself as she entered the elevator. "I am so not ready to be with someone. What am I saying? I'm actually contemplating that idea? Oh my God, what's wrong with me?!"
Ding
The elevator doors opened and she quickly walked to the door in hopes of cleansing her thoughts once she would enter the apartment. She opened the doors in a hurry and as soon as she could, she let herself in and just as quick, she shut it. Natalie took a deep breath and exhaled.
"Ok, moving on."
After another shower and some serious yoga meditation, Natalie took out from the shopping bags, the outfit that she had purchased. It was a pair of dark and incredibly skinny jeans, a floral tube top with numerous layers of ruffles and some really cute golden cross strap sandals. She had no idea how she had dared to buy a tube top, but she did. And she felt good about it. Maybe it was time to be a little bit more outgoing. Why not?
By the time she was fully dressed, she noticed that it was 7:30 pm and she really didn't want to be late, as usual. So what that meant was that she had to do her hair and makeup in the cab on the way there. That was no big deal...she was used to that.
Finally she arrived at the restaurant and as soon as her foot hit the sidewalk, she began to feel all jittery and excited. How would the guys react upon her arrival? Would they approve of her new look? She had decided on combing her hair into a high ponytail, leaving her bangs fall into place barely covering her eyebrows and she kept the makeup pretty simple: powder, rosy blush in a stick, lipgloss and lots of black mascara.
For her part, she looked good. But the real test would be with them.
The restaurant was quaint and lovely, inmediately being captivated by the ambiance and the decor. It was all very rustic and mediterranean and she absolutely loved it.
She headed straight to the reservations desk.
"Yes, umm..."Martin", party of eight."
The waiter was just about to say something, when all of the sudden...

Re: Somersault
Cont. Chapter six
"Sweetie!!!"
A loud and hilarious voice shouted from one of the tables and she looked slightly embarassed, already guessing who it was. And it was indeed.
The tall guy was standing in the middle of the restaurant grining with his arms wide open. Natalie smiled brightly and walked towards him and crashed unto him with a big, firm hug.
"Sweetie, I've missed you!"
"Oh, Joshua me too!"
Once they parted from their embrace, her eyes dazzled at the sight before her: the rest of "the guys". They were all sitting there cheering for her. It was just like old times: Joshua, Hector, Joel, Harry, Oscar, Johnathan and Emanuel. Those were "the guys", her brothers from another mother. Or in this case, "mothers". Back in high school they called themselves "the lucky eights", since Natalie was the eighth one.
Emanuel, the "suave" one stood up.
"My goodness, you look more gorgeous than ever. If that's even possible."
The Harry shouted from the chair at the end of the table: "Give it up, man! She still won't go out with you."
"Although you seemed to try it as well." Emanuel fired back and they all exclaimed.
"Yeah, but she was too good for me." Harry smiled with melancholy. "She still is."
There was an abrupt silence across the table and no one dared to look at either Natalie nor Harry. No one even dared to break the ice until Jonathan with his clever and funny ways, decided to cheer the party back to life.
"Ok, now see? She's too good for all of us. That's why instead of sweeping her away with my charms, I'll give her a big greeting hug, just as the rest of you gents should do." Jonathan made his way towards her and did as he told he would. The other did so as well, saying their "hellos" and giving her compliments on how good she looked and everything.
When the last person sat down, she laughed.
"What? No more hugs?" They all laughed along.
"No, darling. You can sit down now and actually order something." Hector said patting the chair right next to him. Natalie was giddy to be sitting next to him, for he was her "favorite". Of course she didn't let any of the others know, but with Hector she could say anything or do anything. Maybe it was the fact that he was more like her in every single aspect of life. They were like partner in crime or even soul mates that didn't fell in love.
She looked around and smiled just to find herself back with all of them. It was relaxing and exciting at the same time, to be in their presence. Natalie was sure that she would have a great night.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Time passed and they ate, drank, laughed and talked the night away. It couldn't have been more wonderful. But there was a point when Natalie began to quiet down a bit and just observe all the guys at their best.
"Nat, are you okay?" She heard a whisper in her ear. Hector's voice was comforting and sweet.
"Absolutely. I'm just a little... I don't know."
"You miss him, huh?"
Natalie sighed.
"You have no idea."
"Well here, I think you need this." He lifted his red wine glass and firmly placed in front of her. "I know you don't drink and all, but you are in desperate need of alcohol."
"Am I?"
"Trust me."
He put an arm around her and talked her into drinking the wine with just one swig. Her nose squinted and she made a disgusted face, while Hector whooped and celebrated her "craziness".
"Ugh! I hate the taste of wine!"
"Come on, Nat! Live a little."
"As if I'm not living enough?"
Hector didn't respond and the pause had far too long. Natalie looked at him and saw him looking away at something outsite the limits of their loud table.
"What's wrong?"
"Will you look at that." Hector was really surprised at that something.
"What?" Natalie tried to look in the direction that Hector's big green eyes had drawn.
"That guy right there. Isn't that...?"
"Orlando Bloom?"
