Re: Somersault
Here it is: the new chapter! Now, on this one, I decided to experiement with POV's. Hope it's good!
Chapter seven: A table for one and a half
"I have never been to this place before. Is it good?" Kate sat comfortably in her chair but couldn't keep her wondering eyes still. She was eyeing the entire place in curiosity.
"Yes it is." Although my voice didn't agree.
She looked back at me, her excitement winding down a bit, and offered me a sweet and demure smile. My eyes were heavy from tiredness and my back was killing from the stress, so even smiling back seemed to be painful. Kate stretched out her left hand across the table in affection.
"It's good to see you again, Orlando."
She took my hand in her tiny one and held on to it tightly in reassurance.
"You too, Kate."
To be perfectly honest, right at that moment I was thinking that I had thought that after our break-up a couple of years back, I would never see her again. Let's just say that we didn't split in the best of ways and that the both of us ended up terribly hurt. Although I think she felt it worse.
Yes, yes. The truth was that I left her. But it was all when we were both extremely busy with our respective carreers and projects. She was willing to find time for us, but I on the other hand, wasn't. I was stupid and selfish, all I thought about was making a name for myself and staying afloat in the business. My head wasn't set on settling down and being a life partner for someone.
But despite me breaking her heart, she was graceful enough to grant me her friendship after years of not speaking to her. And let me tell you, it was like a stab to the heart to see her act so sweet towards me when I had done nothing to deserve it. That showed the quality of woman that she was. If only there were more out there like her and less "Mirandas", I would've certainly been happy.
My mind kept gliding through thoughts and bad decision makings until I felt a pat on the hand.
"Orlando?"
I blinked and looked at Kate staring at me with her odd eyes.
"Yeah?"
"Were did you go?" She giggled.
"What do you mean?"
"You've got a lot happening on your mind, don't you?"
Removing my hands from her grasp, I leaned back tiredly on my chair and sighed with exhasperation. She still knew how to read me and it was frustrating.
I whispered. "Yes, I do..."
"Wanna talk about it?"
Kate was deeply worried. I could tell by the way she kept looking at me. It was then when I realized that I had made a mistake by leaving her. When I saw her eyes, her short blond bob framing her face, when I heard her soulful and melodious voice, her tiny frame and button nose... I had been an a**hole. But there was nothing I could do, she had moved on as I had done. She had found herself a model, just as I had done (which was a strange coincidence). So I knew there was no looking back with regret. At least we were now friends again and I had to be grateful and it had to be enough.
Therefore, I came to terms with my reality and moved on, decided not to grieve for yet another girl I had loved. Kate was to be now exclusively my friend and only a friend. And that meant I could trust her fully.
"Well..." I began to open up to her. "...let me ask you something."
"Okay..."
"Why do we do this??"
"Do what, exactly?"
"I mean, why did we choose to be celebrities?"
"Orlando, we didn't choose it. It chose you, it chose me. Call it destiny, call it fate, call it whatever!"
I scoffed and started to look for my cigarretes that were hidden somewhere in my jacket.
"What happened?" Kate asked.
"Were are you fu*kers?" I reached the box in my jacket pocket and exclaimed.
"Aha!" I quickly took one out, place it on my lips and lit it up with the flame of the tiny candle that was in the middle of our table.
"Orlando?"
A cloud of smoke escaped from my mouth and I automatically felt more relaxed. I knew it was a bad habit and I had tried to quit before, but it was too good to throw away.
"Orlando..."
"Hmm?" The cigarrete was keeping my lips far too busy to keep on with the conversation.
"I thought you quit."
"Hmm, I did...for a while. For a year, actually."
"So, what happened?"
"Everything got f*cked up."
Instead of sympathy, Kate's face was less than amused. She was dissapointed and shaking her head in dissaproval.
"Don't shake your head, Kate. You love these fellows too." I said waving my cigarrete at her. To me it was funny that an avid smoker, although rehabilitated, was looking down on another one, so I laughed.
"What the hell happened to you, Orlando?" Kate's voice was fragil and depressed, just like me. My laughing trailed to a stop and I lowered my head in shame. "I feel as though you're here with me, but at the same time, somewhere else."
"I'm not myself."
"Oh, that I know." For a moment there it felt like mommy scowling at the kid. "Look..." she continued in a more softer tone after a long pause. "...I don't know what's going through that big head of yours, but all I can say to you is that it will not last forever."
I could feel my eyes filling up with tears, so I sniffed them back before Kate could notice. Then I kept hearing her speak.
"Whatever it is that happened, you'll get through it. I know you, Orlando and you're not one of those that wallows in grief. You're not! And who knows? Maybe on your way out of here you'll meet your happiness!"
Her words were sturdy and firm, but at the same time wonderful and uplifting. With my head still down, I smiled and lifted my eyes to see her smiling brightly.
"Hello there, boy!" We both laughed.
"Hi..."
"How does it feel?"
"It feels better..."
"Good!" She leaned in and whispered with secrecy. "Can we order now, I'm starving!"
She laughed and then I laughed. I noticed that smiling wasn't as dreadful and laughing was refreshing again. In my head I was kissing her feet in appreciation. And her hands as well! That was Kate at her brightest and I was happy that she had bestowed it upon me.
After that, we continued to have a great time. We ate, we drank and we never stopped talking. I learned that she was completely in love with the guy I had envied and that she was contemplating the idea of taking a break and going back to college to study psychology. I always knew she was too smart to not go back.
Now from me, she learned little. Other than various movies in the works for me, I didn't share much. The name "Miranda" wasn't brought up throughtout the entire conversation and I was calmer because of that. As a matter of fact, Kate never tried to know what it was that had troubled me in the beggining. It felt as if she had completely erased it from her thoughts and began anew without looking back. And I believe she was wonderful for it.
As the night progressed, I kept feeling more and more pleased with my newfound friendship with Kate and relatively at ease with the fact that I had been dumped a mere two days before. And it all was thanks to Kate.
"Oh! I gotta go use the ladie's room. I'll be right back."
"Right."
I sipped some wine with a smile still drawn across my lips, since I was indeed having a nice time with my ex. There was no more guilt or regret, only harmony. It felt beautiful! I sighed with delight and looked around the restaurant. There were lots of people there that night, and many faces jumped out as I kept staring in curiousity.
There was what seemed to be a business dinner at the corner, since all the men at the table we wearing suits and they were all talking fervently with papers, calculators and laptops on the table. Now, who would go to such a nice restaurant to continue talking about the same things that they discuss at their jobs? Beats me.
Nearby, an old man sat alone eating his dinner. He looked rich and pretentious, since her wore a very big Rolex watch and a diamond ring on his little finger. And I couldn't help but wonder if all the money that he could possibly have, was enough to buy the man some decent company. A friend, a lady, a dog. I don't know, but in that man I saw a bit of myself. Probably me in thirty years! But as soon as that thought creeped in my head, I shook it off with a shrug.
"Ok...let's look at someone else."
My eyes kept searching for the next fascinating person to imagine a life for. And that was when I saw this girl...
At first I couldn't think at all. I think she took my breath away and made my eyes gleam. I couldn't help myself...she was beautiful.
The candlelight made her look adorable. She seemed polite and eager to take on a new thrill. It was funny tough, that even when she was surrounded by men, she held her own. Her shoulders were relaxed and her smile let out and amber colored glow. Maybe it was the dim lights on her table, I don't know. I saw that the guys around were all laughing in an uproar, but her silence among them was what really resonated in my head. She was pretty...dazzling, entrancing. Her face was striking and perfect. She had bright brown eyes, her nose was cute with a rounded tip and her lips were luscious. Even more when she smiled at one of her companions. It was wonderful seeing her smile since cute dimples would form everytime she did this. I couldn't help but notice that she would close her eyes whenever she would place her fork inside her mouth. I could even sense purring, an enjoyable thing. I wanted to go over there and see her from up close, but something was stopping me.
"Miranda's still in the back of your head."
So I remained seated, admiring her from afar.

Re: Somersault
Cont. Chapter seven
"Hey!" A familiar and perky voice woke me up with a jump in my seat and I nervously tried to make it look as if I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. So I quickly grabbed my glass of wine and sipped away without making any eye contact with Kate.
She laughed suspecting something. "What were you doing?"
"What was I doing with what?"
"I don't you know, you just seem...flustered."
"Me? Flustered? Kate, come on! I don't get flustered." I couldn't believe how ridiculously childish I sounded and neither could Kate.
"Okay...tell me." She sat with a mischievous look on her face. "Something happened while I was in the bathroom. So...tell me!"
There was no way to hide it. And knowing as I knew Kate, she wouldn't stop asking until I couldn't deal with the annoying questions, so I decided to give in early. I leaned in secrecy, just like she had done before and this immediately trigered her interest, as she leaned in as well.
"I was about to take another smoke..." I lied and she bought it.
"You know it's bad for you."
I grinned as I took a glance at the intriguing girl a couple of tables away, over Kate's shoulder. Then, I looked at Kate again.
"I don't think it's bad at all!"
"Yeah?" She sat back and raised an eyebrow. "Let's see if you say that thirty years from now!"
I furrowed my brows at her and my mouth parted slightly in disbelief.
"What?" She asked when she saw my face. But then I blinked and looked away then back at her.
"I had a vision similar to that while you were gone. And it's just...strange that you would say that, that's it."
"Oh! Well then, take it as a guarantee that you should take care of yourself."
"Yeah..." Kate didn't get it. "...a guarantee."
There was a silence between us after that. My mind drifted off, still thinking about her. not Kate, but the other "her". The breathtaking one. Kate must've noticed my absence once again for she got all "mommy" on me.
"Orlando?"
I lifted my eyebrows as a sign of presence on the table. "Hmmm?"
"You left again!"
"No,no, no. I was right here!"
"Sure..." She finished in disbelief. But she began again. "I'm full! Aren't you full?"
"Mm-hmm!"
"You ready to go?"
I didn't want to go. But if I stayed with no apparent reason, it would've been too obvious. Besides, I wasn't going to make a big deal about a girl that I would never see again. So, I just stood up to leave. And as we made our way to pay I looked back a the girl's table and noticed that she wasn't there anymore. There were all the guys from before, but no womanly presence. I frowned as I realized that I now had to forget all about her, as if she never existed. But her image was so vivid that I had no idea where to begin to erase her.
"You know what Kate, let me get this."
"Oh, no! I can pay my for my food."
"Honey, I know you can. Just let me do this. As a favor?"
"I don't--"
"As a "thank you" for your advice!"
She looked at me and smiled.
"Fine."
"Besides, your boyfriend must be wondering if we're doing something inappropiate."
Kate squinted her eyes and crossed her arms. "For your information, he trusts me."
"I know! I just don't think he trust me." The blonde laughed and nodded with a grin.
"Touché."
We both smiled. I don't know if it was because we were remembering the past or just the happiness of being pals, but we hugged warmly.
"Thanks for dinner, Orlando."
"You're welcome, Kate."
Then I watched her as she walked away and hailed for a cab, she got in and it drove away. I sighed feeling pleased with myself and made my way to the guy in the computer and handed him the check, with my credit card.
All of the sudden I heard him telling me something in spanish and I couldn't understand a word.
"Excuse me?"
"Mister...en estos momentos no tenemos el servicio de aceptar tarjetas de creditos. Tiene alguna otra manera de pagar? Tiene efectivo?"
I was thrown and puzzled and humiliated. He kept showing me my credit card so I believed it had something to do with it. But I couldn't believe that he couldn't speak any english!!
"Umm...okay. Sir, I...can't...understand...a...single...word...you're...saying. If you could just....I don't know do drawings or something."
I was growing impatient and weary of problems the problems that I had of comunicating with people. The other man was getting a bit frustrated himself and I couldn't blame him. Suddenly I heard a soft voice. My curiosity was creeping in, so I looked. Thousands of knots started to build in my stomach as soon as got to see her standing there, in front of me, wanting, what seemed to be, to help out in our little problem.
"I could translate if you wish..." She spoke beautifully and the way she looked at me with a sweet and inviting smile, made me do a 180 an be in this good mood all of the sudden.
But then I had forgotten how to speak.
"Please."
Quickly she directed her attention to the other man and began to talk to him. She spoke fluent spanish and she sounded incredibly sexy doing so. If I was captured by her before, I was even more now. I couldn't help but stare at her with delight as she listened intently at what the man was telling her. Neither could I help the admiration I was feeling when I saw her from head to toe. It was a sight for sore eyes, she looked beautiful and confident. At that moment I wanted to run away from her. I had just ended a two year long relationship, and I don't think I was ready to look for a new girlfriend. Besides, what would Miranda think if I turned up at some magazine with this other girl??
But what was I thinking?? I was actually contemplating the idea of being with someone else this soon! No wonder she left me!
Right then, she turned back to face me, making the knots even more intense.
"What he's trying to say is that for the moment, the restaurant is not accepting credit cards. Only bills. They have a problem with the system and he says they're sorry for any inconvenience."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
I wanted to sound as calm as I could. "Very well..." I paid the man quickly so as I could generate some sort of conversation with her.
"Thank you--?"
"Natalie."
"Natalie." I repeated. "I'm Orlando." I stretched out my hand and she gave me hers, which was incredibly soft, and we were aquainted. "Thank you, Natalie. You saved me back there."
"My pleasure. It's nice to be a lifesaver sometimes."
"Yeah..." I believe I stood there looking at her, because she awkwardly bit her lip and stared at her feet.
"Well I should umm...get back to my table." It was cute, the way she spoke all shy like that.
"Sure! Hey, thanks again!"
"You're welcome."
She began to walk away but I just had to ask her one las thing.
"Excuse me, Natalie?" She turned around looking quite surprised and the knots were kicking in once more. "Just out of curiosity: Natalie what?"
"Oh." Then she made that smile that I came to love from before. "Natalie Martin."
I had to smile at her. "Then, good night Natalie Martin."
"Good night, Orlando." And she resumed walking away from me.
It was a bittersweet feeling seeing how she gave her back to me, knowing that that would be the last of her. Too bad... she was lovely. I exhaled and faced it: that was it and it was time to go home. So I turned around as well and began to exit the restaurant. When I reached my car which was parked a few blocks away, I got in and closed the door. And as soon as I was about to start the engine, Kate's voice resonated in my head.
"And who knows? Maybe on your way out of here you'll meet your happiness!"

Re: Somersault
Hey there! Here's the next chapter of my little story. Once again, I hope it's okay and pretty please...review!
Chapter eight: Gossip
Daylight began to slowly make its way into the hotel room and the warm and bright feeling of its rays began to bother Orlando's eyes. He had forgotten to fully close the drapes the night before and now he was regreting it.
Orlando hissed and fussed about in his bed, trying to avoid the sunlight. He grabbed the additional pillow and firmly pressed it on top of his head to shield the rays while cussing away at the sun for awakening him a bit too soon.
F*ck! I don't want to get up just yet...
Then he realized that the only way to find his sleep again was to draw the drapes and enjoy the cool dark that would help him sleep after a night of tossing and turning in his bed. After dinner he went back to his hotel, took a shower and tried to go to bed earlier than usual. But he just couldn't do that.
His thoughts did not let him sleep whatsoever. All he could think about was Miranda. As he sat at the end of his bed in ran his fingers through his head and pictured her stomping her way down thousands of runways for endless fashion designers, looking gorgeous and sensual; her hair bouncing flowing behind her and her perfect body modeling the priciest outfits, including lingerie. That was his favorite look for her. She knew it would him crazy to surprise with things like that, so she did. And he loved it.
But not anymore.
Although many thought that their relationship was purely physical, Orlando had to disagree. He actually grew to care for her...a lot. Miranda at one point was sweet, sensitive, caring, thoughtful, romantic...you name it! And it all came in this beautiful package of her looks. What more could he ask for? She had it all. But now he had none of it.
The sole thought made him sob uncontrollably in the privacy of his room. What had he done to deserve such a terrible pain? It was just completely unfair. His chest was heaving with a heavy heart and he could feel his eyes beginning to swell up from all the crying he had let out.
Sadly, after all that, he still could not think about anything else. He had decided to lay down for a while and try to fall asleep, which he did, but a every couple of hours he would wake up with the image of Miranda still on his head, not letting him rest.
So, that's why he was so exhausted, both physically and emotionally. He sure as hell didn't want to even leave his room that day, not even move a muscle.
That's what I'll do...
Right at that moment, his cell phone started ringing. A funky and likeable tune made him groan on his pillow. He buried his face while he searched for it on the night stand. Orlando push the "answer" button and placed it on his ear with dread.
"Hello" He mumbled.
"Good morning, Orlando Bloom!"
He recognized the voice but kept talking with the same enthusiasm.
"Good morning, Coral Berryman."
"I see my advice was not that good. You sound terrible!."
"Like always."
"Maybe you should have gone to London after all."
"I don't know...I have a feeling New York's going to be nice this summer."
"Yeah..." Coral's tone changed from upbeat and alive, to worried and somber. "Look, Orlando. I think we need to have a serious chat."
"What about?"
"There are some things being said about you that I need to clear up."
Orlando sat on the bed, now feeling extremely alert and serious.
"What sorts of things?"
"I'll come to you and we'll talk. You're at The Mercer, right?"
"Right."
He sensed a shiver down his spine as he already suspected what their conversation would be about. Orlando bit his lip and asked one more thing.
"Coral?"
"Yeah?" He could hear her huffing and puffing as if she were jogging to the hotel.
"Tell me: is my love life that important to you?"
Coral sighed and she automatically knew that he knew what was in store for him.
"No. Your entire life is."
"You know, I can't believe that you do this for a living."
"Do what, exactly?"
"Damage control, salvage careers, reputations. You're like the good friend that cleans up after the sloppy one."
She let out a hearty laugh. "Well you are sloppy every once in a while!"
"Why, thank you very much."
"You're welcome! Now, go clean up before I get there...sloppy."
"Done."
And they hung up. Still worried about the fact that "there were things said about him", he made the bed and picked up his jeans from the floor and placed them nicely folded on top of one the chairs that came with the hip and modern decor of the room. Then he took his shirt from the floor as well and put it on. He entered the bathroom.
Clean enough...
And he brushed his teeth and face in a hurry and just as he finished, he heard Coral knocking on the door. While making his way to the door he felt something strange. He felt strangely...free. Then he looked at himself and saw that he still wearing his boxers!
Oh, sh*t!
He rushed to the chair in which he had left his pants, unfolded them quickly and practically jumped into them. Then: another knock.
"Orlando?"
"Coming!"
Just before opening the door, he zipped up his zipper hoping that Coral wouldn't notice his "almost-accident". With a deep breath, looking around the room making sure everything was tidy, he opened the door.
Orlando smiled as soon as he saw Coral standing there. She hadn't changed a bit! Still short, still curly-haired, still tanned and still heavy! He had always considered her adorable and now wasn't going to change that.
"Do I have the cutest publicist or what?"
She smirked but wasn't as warm as usual.
"We...need...to...talk."
And she led herself inside the room. Orlando closed the door somewhat bewildered, but quickly remebered the purpose of her visit. When he turned around he saw her already sitting down at the table with a magazine thrown in front of her. Coral sighed and leaned back while signaling him to sit down.
Orlando sat across Coral and waited.
"How are you?" She broke the ice.
"Well, as you might have already found out, single." He smirked at Coral, but on the inside, it hurt him to say those words. It was like as if he was admiting it. Although he didn't want to.
He almost expected Coral to continue rambling on about how he should've been more discreet and quiet about he issues, since every move would affect his career, either for the better or worse. But not this time. This time Coral remained quiet after he spoke. She never stopped looking into his eyes, until she spoke again.
"And how are you?"
Orlando ran his fingers through his short, curly hair and exhaled quietly.
"Well, you know...disastrous."
"I'm sorry." Coral said with a faceful of pity. Now, Orlando wasn't too keen about that. In fact, he was tired of recieving pity from anybody, he didn't want to. So he changed the tone of the conversation by acting much more lively.
"So I see you brought me some reading material."
"Yeah, take a look."
Coral gave him the magazine and Orlando grabbed it while his eyes began to scan the cover. It was a "well renouned" tabloid magazine and it had a big picture of him and Miranda torn in the middle and on top of it, in bold letters: "Orlando to Miranda: 'I just don't love you anymore!'" And some smaller letters bellow: "Bloom trades a wounded Miranda for a mystery woman!"
His eyes shot wide open as he read those terrible words. Frantically, he flipped the magazine to read the full article. What he found inside was even more horrifying. If people were to believe what they read, they would believe that Orlando was an unfaithful bastard, that Miranda had found out about the infidelity and had begged him to leave the other woman, but in the end, had to compromise with sharing him with the blond club manager from Los Angeles, amongst other ridiculous details that were obviously fabricated.
"I want to hear the truth from you, Orlando."
Orlando placed the magazine back on the table and looked at Coral with a frown.
"How do you know I'll tell you the truth."
Coral raised an eyebrow with a shocked expression on her face. This wasn't Orlando talking. At leat not the one she knew.
"For your own good, you'd better."
"Have you ever thought that maybe one time the story on the tabloids might be true?"
"If it is then I'll keep on doing my job."
"And what is that?"
"Making you look good! In spite of all the stupid mistakes that you might make in the way. So, if this is true then tell me now!"
Orlando saw that throughout the years, Coral had been trustworthy and loyal to her words. Just like Kate, he was now considering her a friend. A friend whom he gave a comission to. But in all seriousness, Coral was indeed a friend to him, she always looked out for him and he was now answering with childish reactions and immature remarks.
"I'm sorry, Coral."
She inhaled deeply. "It's okay. You're under stress or something. I'm sorry too. Lately I've been under a lot of pressure."
"Or something."
"Yeah."
They sat there winding down and searching what to say next. So, Orlando decided to break the ice this time.
"Why under pressure?"
"Huh?" She seemed distracted.
"You said you were under pressure. Why?"
"Oh. My umm...best friend lost her boyfriend in a motorcycle accident about a month ago and she's been staying with me."
"Wow...that's...I'm sorry."
"I tell you, when you try everything in the world to make them feel better and you seem to fail, it's like you're a piece of sh*t friend, you know?...So everyday I wake up trying to be great for her. But it can get exhausting, trying to be "the" friend."
Orlando smiled at her. "Just for the record...I think you have been "the" friend for me."

Re: Somersault
Cont. Chapter eight
Coral chuckled softly. "Yeah, a friend whom you pay a commission to."
"Think of it as collateral."
They both burst into laughter and the tension and heaviness that had been building up inside the room had all of the sudden disappeared. But then, Coral abruptly changed her expression and became all serious again.
"What?" Orlando was absolutely clueless with a smile still drawn across his face.
"I still have to learn the truth."
"Oh..."
"Look--" She was about to pity him again.
"Coral, they couldn't have gotten it more wrong."
"Oh?"
"That "mystery girl"? I have absolutely no idea who the f*ck she is!"
"So there wasn't any cheating?"
"F*ck no!" Orlando started to look for his cigarettes again but he stopped abruptly as he figured out something. He stood up and leaned against the closest wall and hid his hands in his pockets. With his head lowered he spoke softly. "Well, yes..."
"Yes?"
He lifted his head with glassy eyes and nodded slowly in response. As soon as he felt the knot in his throat begin to tighten, he bit his lower lip and leaned his head against the wall.
"I wasn't enough."
A small tear made its way down his cheek until it dried out on its way to his neck. Coral felt the urge to walk towards him, so she did. She had to stand on her tip toes to grab his head to make him look at her.
"Listen...you are more than enough. If she needed some other guy to fill her happiness, is because she's the one that's hollow and empty inside. Not you. You have a good and valuable heart...take it back. Hey, don't let her keep it, she sure as hell doesn't deserve it."
He smiled with melancholy and replied in a whisper: "Done."
"Good! Now, let's go someplace to eat. All that walking here made me hungry!"
Orlando laughed as he wiped his eyes dry. She was absolutely nuts! He watched her as she threw away the magazine and fetched her purse and quickly turned around to face him.
"Why are you still standing there? Come on!"
He let out a lazy smile and took a good look at himself.
"I have to shower. This is the same outfit I used last night."
This peaked Coral's interest.
"Oh? And where were we last night?"
"Having dinner."
"With?"
"Kate."
Coral tilted her head to the side with a puzzled look on her face. "Kate, your ex-girlfriend, Kate?"
"Yep."
"How did that go?"
"Swell, actually."
"Really?"
"Yeah!"
"Okay, now go take a shower!" She pushed him towards the bathroom and closed the door. "And make it quick!"
As soon as she heard the shower, she walked around the room waiting for him to finish.
"Coral?"
She went back and stood next to the bathroom door to better hear Orlando speak.
"Yeah?"
"The friend that's staying with you..."
"What about her?"
"Was she the one that you pranked?"
"Oh, yes!" She laughed as she remembered Natalie's face.
"You know, she scared the hell out of me!"
"I can imagine."
"By the way..."
"Yeah?"
"She has a pretty telephone voice."

Re: Somersault
Oh my goodness, that up-date was so sweet!
quote: "I wasn't enough."
That was so nice of Coral. I'm sort too and would have consoled Orlando in the same way.
When I found out that Orlando was dating Miranda, I was so stressed out about that idea...
I could have used a good friend like Coral to waken my senses!
I also loved this part of the chapter too!

I can totally picture Orlando talking in this scene! Too cute!
I bet that Coral has an idea now to get Natalie and Orlando together
Oh, and this part seemed so realistic too!
quote:
"Coral, they couldn't have gotten it more wrong."
"Oh?"
"That "mystery girl"? I have absolutely no idea who the f*ck she is!"
"So there wasn't any cheating?"
"F*ck no!" Orlando started to look for his cigarettes again but he stopped abruptly as he figured out something. He stood up and leaned against the closest wall and hid his hands in his pockets. With his head lowered he spoke softly. "Well, yes..."
It seems nowadays that the F-word keeps slipping out of Orlando's mouth more and more.
Doing this in your fic makes this story seem more true and real. Great job, and keep up that good work!
Cheers!

Re: Somersault
Chapter nine: Sparks and open houses
"Hmm...we've got to figure out what is that I'm going to say if the "parasyte" reporters ask me what's going on." Coral played around with her plate of seaweed salad. She was discreetly disgusted. Of course she didn't want Orlando to know since he had so politely offered to order for her. She really couldn't blame him, after all she did let him pick the place. But of all the places in Manhattan, he had to pick a sushi bar!
"I know." Orlando sipped from his sake cup and tapped his cigarrette box that he had placed right next to his sushi plate.
Coral looked at him and smiled.
"Let's try something!"
He looked at her from the corner of his eye, with a skeptical face. "What?"
"You be the reporter and I'll answer a few different things and you pick which sounds best!"
"That's ridiculous..."
"You know what I think is ridiculous?"
"I'm dying to find out."
"The fact that you're so cute but oh, so boring."
Orlando raised an eyebrow. He knew she was kidding, but there maybe was a bit of truth in that. So he wanted to show her that she was mistaken.
"So..." He began to play on his "new yorker" accent. "...are the rumors of a breakup between Orlando and Miranda true? Did he really cheat on her?"
Coral sat properly in her stool and pinned her curly, long her in a tight bun.
"All I have to say on this matter is, and listen carefully, for I will not say it twice--"
"Oh?" Orlando was impressed.
"Yeah." She scrunged her nose and continued. "Is that in this fast paced, celebrity life, which both Ms. Kerr and Mr.Bloom are a part of, many mistakes are made. Drugs, alcohol, sex...all those things are present every single day for these sad people."
"Sad people?"
"So, please, leave them be with their own addictions and demons. Let's treat them with a little kindness and respect, since that's all they need from us at this moment of despair in their lives." She offered a big and bright smile. "How was that?"
He was surprised and not in a good way. "I think that was a bit much."
"You think?"
"Given the fact that you made me sound like a drug, alcohol and sex addict in desperate need of charity? Yes, I think it indeed was."
Coral giggled and sat up straigh again. She signaled him to try it again, and he reluctantly did.
"Do you wish to make a statement about the alleged Orlando and Miranda split?"
"Mr. Bloom and Ms. Kerr have decided to end their relationship since "the b*tch" Miranda had sexual relations with an old aquaintance of hers, while still being Mr. Bloom's girlfriend. But don't worry, they ended amicably and remained very good friends. Oh! And did I say Ms. Kerr's a b*tch?"
This time Orlando chuckled softly but quickly felt reminded of what had happened. He began to stare at the floor and sighed sharply. "Well, that one's better. Still a bit... harsh. Maybe."
Coral smile faded into a frown and immediately felt incredibly guilty. She turned on her stool to face her plate to continue eating, but not before she looked at him and whispered.
"Sorry 'bout that."
All he did was nod in acknowledgement. She smiled a bit and leaned on him with an arm thrown across his back. Orlando smiled faintly and kissed her forehead lightly.
"So...I guess we'll go with the classic "No comment" line, huh?" Coral said with a sigh.
"That would be perfect."
She patted his back in a friendly way and went right back to eating her unfriendly salad. To avoid sinking her fork in it, she gladly changed the subject.
"You know, you haven't told me how it went with Kate at dinner last night. Is she still really, really skinny?"
Orlando almost choked on his food as he burt into laughter. He had to drink some more sake in order to speak with a clear voice.
"Mm-hmm. She is."
"What did she order?"
"I don't remember, Coral!"
"Oh, come on. Try."
"Well..." He thought long and hard. "I think it was a lobter."
"She ate lobster?"
Orlando squinted his eyes as he pictured Kate eating away. Then he nodded when he was sure.
"Yep. Lobster."
"Sh*t!" Coral exclaimed and startled him.
"What?"
"The skinny one gets to eat lobster and you order me this?"
Orlando was thrown and shocked. He smiled bewildered but quickly fired back, following her in this silly game of hers.
"Aren't we ungrateful..."
"I know! I'm sorry but, man! Lunch for me is burgers, fries, pizza, hot dog... Something juicy and meaty!"
"Yeah, but don't you think you're better off having that?" He pointed towards her plateful of seaweed.
Coral looked her plate then at him, then at her plate again, then at him once more. All this, with an irritated look.
"What are you saying?"
Orlando playful shrugged his shoulders and took a big bite and avoided her now closing in face.
"Orlando? Are you saying I'm fat?" Her fist was ready to strike straight for his arm. He looked at her and pouted like a little boy.
"No..."
She struck him anyways and hard.
"Ooww!"
"You are!"
"No, I'm not! Well..."
"Well what?!" She growled in frustration and let down her bun while she scratched her head. Orlando started laughing, which made Coral look at him furiously.
"Don't be mad, luv." He patted Coral on the shoulder and brushed the stray hair out of her face. "I prefer you like this than like Kate. Respectfully."
Coral gasped in delight and fluttered her eyelashes. Being a guy that he was, he blushed and looked around in embarassement.
"What?" He asked shyly.
"You prefer me over your ex-girlfriend?"
Orlando giggled and admired her abbility to find humor in every single thing in life. Coral was so alive and humorous, he hoped that some of it would rub off on him. She was turning to be his role model for times like these. Difficult times. As a matter of fact, he was quickly forgetting "her" name and all that it included. Therefore, he wished to be more like her.
He leaned forward, dangerously close to Coral's face and replied with a low and sultry voice.
"Anytime of anyday..."
"Oh, shut up!" Coral pushed him away and laughed when she saw that he almost fell off of his stool. "You okay?"
"I've just realized that to be your friend, people have to go through a training school!"
"Why?"
"You're hazardous to be around with! I mean, I nearly fell, your friend almost had a heart attack... You have to know how to handle yourself when being around you."
"Or better yet: people have to know how to handle me."
"Exactly."
They both smiled and Coral seemed to be mighty pleased with herself. She found herself unique and quirky and she absolutely loved that about herself now that Orlando had pointed it out. But she certainly didn't lke to talk that much about her.
"Ok. Changing the subject."
"Okay..."
"What did you talk about?"
"Who?"
"You and Kate!"
"Oh! Well...lots of things. The dangers of smoking, my temporary depression, our careers and her love life, basically."
"Sounds kind of lackluster."
"It was!" They both laughed. "But you know? She did say something really...how do I put this? Revealing."
"Revealing? What was that?"
"Well, while talking about my umm...situation, she said that the pain wouldn't last forever."
"True."
"Yeah, but then she said and I quote: "who knows, maybe you'll find your happiness on your way out of here." or something like that. "Here" meaning the restaurant."
"Mm-hmm."
"And then, when I was about to pay, she had left already, something marvelous happened."
"What?"
"I met this girl."
"Already?! Orlando, I'm impressed!"
"Shut up, I don't think it was like that."
"How was it then?"
"For starters, I only got her name." Then he paused and imagined seeing her again, looking as lovely as before. After that, he woke up and continued. "But Coral, she was so...so beautiful and sweet and alluring! It was as if she had it all! I first saw her sitting on her table and I thought "Wow!", but honestly, after a while I never thought that I'd see her again." He opened his cigarrette box, took one, placed it on his lips and lit it. With a cloud of smoke around, he kept talking with the same excitement. "But then I did."
Right then the waitress brought the check and Orlando took it. While his eyes ran through it, he heard Coral ask something to the waitress.
"You accept credit cards, right?"
"We do, yes."
Orlando's eyes shot wide open and looked at Coral all shocked. Coral felt strange to be stared at like that.
"What happened?"
"Tha-that's how we met! Bloody hell..."
"How's that?"
"By a credit card. If it hadn't been because the restaurant didn't accept credit cards, she wouldn't had helped me out."
"She helped you out? How?"
"Well, I couldn't understand a thing the cashier was telling me and she translated. Man, it was impressive! She could speak fluent spanish, Coral. Which was incredibly sexy."
"She could speak spanish?"
He kept smoking while still smiling at the thought of Natalie.
"Mm-hmm."

Re: Somersault
Cont. Chapter nine
Coral thought about this for a while. It couldn't have been Natalie. They way Orlando described her, he was just too...thrilled. Natalie couldn't have been that confident, as to talk to Orlando Bloom. Of course she knew who he was, and Coral didn't think she would have the guts to cros his path. Besides, what were the odds that they would have the dinner the night before in the same restaurant at the same time? One in a million! So Coral erased the possibility from her mind and kept listening intently at Orlando's story.
"But then we spoke briefly and went our separate ways. I was honestly bummed to be walking away from her. And then I thought: "Don't be stupid. Definitely after tonight you will not see her again." But then I remembered what Kate had told me. Had I met indeed my happiness right then? On my way out of the restaurant? Was she my happiness?"
"Well I-I don't know."
Coral had never seen Orlando like this. So passionate and alive about something. Maybe this girl was the key that would open the door to the rest of his life. But she feared she would be like Miranda: coniving, unfaithful, untrue and of course, a b*tch. She cared for him too much to see him get hurt again.
"Don't worry, Coral." As if he could read her mind. "What are the chances of seeing her again? You're still my dream girl." He joked.
"Oh good!" She answered with a suggestive tone but still, deep inside, slightly worried. Then she looked at her watch. "Ooh! I've got to go..."
"Where to?"
She gave him a dead serious look and raised an eyebrow.
"What are you, my mother?"
He laughed. "I'm sorry then."
"No, no! I'm kidding! I've got to...umm, go home, change clothes and head to the office for a while."
"Isn't this nice for you?"
"What?"
"You go to the office whenever you feel like it?"
"What can I say? I'm loved!"
"I'll bet you are..."
