Re: Somersault
Chapter twelve: "Your Place"
Natalie paced the room looking to see if she was forgetting something; the almost universal feeling that even though you've over thought you're list of things to pack, in the end you still feel incomplete. So she searched every corner, every drawer. Nothing. The room which had been hers for a couple of months was no lifeless, empty and quiet. Nevertheless, she smiled from the inside sensing a change in her life. A new chapter, new things to come. She didn't want to show it too much, she didn't want to tell Coral, but she was indeed happy to stop being a "roommate" and now have a place of her own.
There were various suitcases and boxes out on the hall, ready to be taken to the space she would call "home". After gazing at the now solemn room, she sighed and shut the door behind her. Coral was nowhere in sight, though.
"C...?"
"Yeah?" Natalie followed the voice which came from Coral's room. She popped her head through the door frame and saw her friend finishing up her work outfit, by strapping a leather belt around the waist of her blue button-down dress, creating a stunning hourglass figure. Coral's curly hair was up in a casual bun and her makeup was almost an art form.
"Are you going to work?" Natalie was doubtful about it.
"Yeah...why?"
"I don't know. You just look...nice."
Coral placed her hands on her waist and smiled in disbelief. "And I don't every other day?"
Natalie quickly jumped in her defense. "That's not what I meant! It's just that today, you look really nice. Almost too beautiful." She really, truly was beautiful.
"Oh." She let down her guard and looked at herself from top to bottom through the dresser mirror that was on her left and then faced Natalie and smiled with deep appreciation. "Thanks, babe."
"You're welcome."
“So, are you all packed? Ready to go?” Her voice trailed off with a hint of gloom.
“I am.” The perfect posture, which had become her trademark, was beginning to crumble a bit. She kept looking at Natalie with this eyes that basically cried out “don’t leave”, but she had to ignore just this once. Although, she was still expecting her to speak out.
“Do you really have to go??” She whined, slightly throwing her head back and Natalie smiled because she knew her so well. Then Coral hurried toward her and slid her arms around Natalie’s tiny waist and rested her chin on her chest, looking up at her with puppy eyes. “Hmm?” Oh, she was good.
“I don’t have to.” Natalie answered as she looked down to her eyes with a dubious smile.
“Then don’t! We have fun don’t we? I mean, I’m not one of “the guys” but I sure can be a fine pal!” Coral’s bulky arms tightened around Natalie and she kept staring at her with those darned eyes. But Natalie just had to react to the stupid observation she had just made.
“You’re not a “fine” pal….” She could feel knots forming deep in her throat as she began to hold back some tears. “You’re exquisite. Coral you’re-” Finally, a tear trickled down her cheek and her voice was trembling. “--the best friend in my life. “ Coral's eyes began to water as well.
“Really?”
“Hands down.” Of course, Natalie knew that they would be seeing each other frequently, but after everything Coral had guided her through, helped her deal with…Natalie had come to separate a place in her heart just for C. From the moment Coral agreed to snatch her away from “Jersey” two months ago, she knew she was one of a kind. No other like her in the world.
Once they both saw that the other was crying, they started laughing and wiping each other’s tears.
“Oh! Now, you’ve ruined your makeup, C!”
“Nothing a little touch-up couldn’t do to help.” Natalie patted her arm softly and made her way to the doorway, where all her things were. Then she heard Coral speak again. “And who’s going to help you with all that stuff??”
As she gave one last, long review to her luggage, making sure nothing was left behind, she smiled as the vivid image of a person came to mind. “Landon.”
“Landon?? My doorman???” She had flown to Natalie’s side and spoke in complete astonishment.
“Yeah…” Natalie replied with a coy smile.
“When did that happen?!”
Natalie turned around to face her. “Nothing happened!” But Coral was still looking at her with suspicion. “I told him a few days ago I was moving and he offered to help me out! Nothing romantic, nor implied. Okay?”
“Okay…” Although she didn’t quite buy it yet. She turned her back to her and began to walk again towards her room.
“Besides, Orlando will be there too.” Natalie laughed as she heard Coral run back.
“What?!”
“What’s so incredible about that?”
Coral kept silent for a few moments, running her thoughts and holding back an answer. “Nothing!” She blurted out with a hint of mischievousness.
“Coral…?” Natalie knew she was up to something. Coral, on the other hand had placed a finger on her lips as if evaluating the situation. “Coral…?” Still, she thought deeply as Natalie’s patience wore thin. “Coral!”
“Huh?”
“What are you thinking?” She asked Coral in sing-song-y voice, trying to persuade her friend to speak out.
“Did you know that Orlando has a photo shoot today?”
“Umm…yes? He said as soon as he was finished he would go and lend me a hand.”
“Oohh…but Landon’s going too.”
“So?”
“Interesting…” It seemed that Coral’s mind trailed off to somewhere far, far and away.
“No it’s not!!” Natalie protested.
“It always is when you have two rather attractive men in your place at the same time.”
“Oh, please.” She scoffed as she picked up the several bags on few boxes from the floor. “Bye, Coral…” She kissed her on the cheek and exited the apartment, although with great difficulty.
“Love ya’!” Coral stood still looking at the now closed door, her lips parting slightly and smiling to herself. “It is interesting if they both like you.”
---------------------------
"Hi!" Natalie exclaimed as she dragged a box with her feet and held a oversized bag on her shoulder. Landon turned around and rushed towards her. As he did, to her surprise, she found him invredibly goo-looking. He wasn't wearing his stiff uniform, but rather a nice pair of relaxed fitting jeans, a simple white t-shirt (which accentuated very well his firm and full biceps) and sneakers. Natalie heard herself gasp lightly and quickly giggled to her own shock.
"Here, let me help you with that." He was already bending over to grab the box from the floor.
"Oh, no. I got this. But there are still some stuff just outside the elevator, if you could get those."
"Sure!" When he passed by her, the smooth and wonderful scent of his perfume tickled her nose. She closed her eyes slightly and took it in. Then she woke up and kept kicking the heavy box with her feet all the way to the taxi that Landon had already got for their little "trip". The cab driver hurried to get everything on the trunk and when Landon arrived with a few more pieces of luggage, Natalie heard the man groan loudly.
"Jeez, lady!"
Natalie laughed. "Sorry!" Then she got in the backseat feeling all excited for this change in her life. She felt the trunk slam shut and saw Landon seat next to her. She smiled at him. "Thank you...for doing this. You didn't have to though."
His blondish hair was a cute mess and his bright blue eyes stared at her in the most loving way. "I wanted to. Anything for you, Ms. Martin."
"Landon..." She said in an intimadating tone.
"Sorry. Ms. Natalie." They both looked out their repective windows and kept quiet for a few blocks. "Besides!" Landon resumed, making Natalie jump in her seat. "How would you have done it alone? I couldn't let that happen." He made her smile.
It was then when she realized that Landon was very different from Orlando. Landon was quite a bit more...energetic, Orlando was always so very calm and collected. Landon was definitely shorter, almost her height, much more candid; whereas Orlando was this big enigma. So she saw herself, sitting next to a complete stranger to her, yet entirely charming, inviting and warm. Certainly those were good qualitites for a man. Also...he was extremely handsome. So that wasn't bad either.
"So, what do you Ms. Natalie?" He paused. "I'm just generating conversation here...otherwise this would be a pretty lousy ride."
Natalie laughed and scratched her head before giving him an answer. "Well...since I quit my job when I left "Jersey", I'm currently without one. But I'm a teacher."
"Oh really?" His interest was genuine. "What subject?"
"French."
"Wow. That's very good. And, sorry, how old are you?"
For a moment there, Natalie felt incredibly interrogated. It wasn't in her nature to open up that soon to any one. Although, she had done so with Orlando, when they had their drinks at that coffeeshop just a few weeks back. But that was an exception. Nevertheless, she gave this "q & a" thing a shot. "I'm twenty-six. And you?" She had to shift the attention from herself somehow.
Landon replied with a groan: "Thirty-one."
"Why, you say that as if were a terrible thing!"
"It's not?"
"No, not really." She saw Landon sitting a tad uncomfortable with his hands placed stiffly on his tighs and his gaze fixed on the floor. So leaned over to his side and added with a smile: "Just so you know...you don't look a day older than twenty-four." Which was true. His fresh and juvenile features helped him a lot.

Re: Somersault
Cont. chapter twelve
"Oh, now you're lying!" He scoffed.
"Am not!"
Landon smiled at Natalie and for the first time, she could sense the sparks in her own eyes. And when she saw that his own were all glitery as well, she turned away and looked out her window once again. She put on her black wafer sunglasses and shook her head softly.
"What's wrong?" She heard him ask as he had seen her shaking of the head.
"Nothing..." Natalie faced him and forced a grin.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure." She mumble to the window.
"If you're unemployed, how is it that you got the money to buy an appartment?"
This threw Natalie. When did she give him permission to be so nosy?! He was entering without authorization! In just a few sentences into the conversation, he had become this meddling psycho! But still, he smiled, in all his innocence, he couldn't sense Natalie feeling completely invaded. For which, she held back her defenses and dropped her self-protectiveness for a while.
"My parents." She replied coldly and fast. Just to let him know that her sources of income where off limits when it came to building topics of conversation.
"Oh. And where is it that they live?"
Natalie could feel her cheeks turn bright pink. She was beginning to freak out from the inside and she did not want it to get out. She swallowed hard and again answered plainly: "Italy."
"Wow...so do you see them often?"
Okay, that was it. Natalie held back a response and looked at him intently. "Landon, I...don't want to talk about that, okay? It's just too...delicate."
He quickly realized the anguish he was making Natalie go through and was quick to apologize. "I'm so very sorry. It was rude of me to pry. Really, I apologize. This is just what I do when I'm nervous."
Natalie raised an eyebrow. "Why would you be nervous?"
"I have no idea. But I'll take a wild guess and say that it's probably from being next to you. You're just...too pretty."
She was at a loss for words. It had been a while since she had met someone as forward as him. So it was difficult for her to keep up the pace. "W-well, umm...thanks. I mean, th-thank you. I guess."
"You should feel flattered, Ms. Natalie. It really is true." It was funny how he kept calling her "Ms. Natalie" with that deep, "made for radio" voice. And for the first time since his weird interversion, she felt okay with him. So good, that she was willing to forget his prying questions. After all, he did say it was all out of nervousness.
Suddenly, they both felt the taxi slowly come to a stop. Natalie looked outside her window and saw her new and beloved building. "Ah! We're here!" She squeeled in excited and hurried to unfasten her seatbealt and rush out of the cab. Landon watched her in awe and followed her lead.
A few moments later, Natalie was at her front door with her set of keys. She was giggling as she opened the door.
"Aren't you giddy?" Landon said.
"You have no idea." Natalie grabbed a few of the lightest boxes and entered her fully furnished apartment. Landon followed with the rest of them and kicked the door shut as soon as he entered as well. He dropped them carefully on the floor and stood up to look carefully at Natalie who was now skipping across the entire place, her luscious head of hair bouncing all over the place, a smile never erasing from her heart shaped lips. Then when she turned around, she stopped abruptly to see Landon gazing upon with the most adorable set of eyes. "What?" She asked childishly.
Landon crossed his arms and leaned on the wall that was behind him. "Nothing..." he never stopped smiling either.
She giggled and skipped once more, but his time towards him. "Thanks again, Landon. You were a big help."
"You're very welcome." Landon replied in a now somewhat sultry tone and with a wink as an ending. But of course, Natalie was far too excited to have noticed it and she threw her arms around him and hugged him tenderly. He, on the other hand, did not expect this...at all. Then, just as he felt her in his arms, he shut his eyes and embraced her as well. When they broke loose, he felt the need to speak out once more. "Listen, Ms. Natalie, I'm really sorry for having asked you all those thing back at the taxi. I hope you don't think that I'm like that always. I'm not!"
"It's okay!" Natalie threw an arm up in the air. "It really is. I get that you were nervous." Then she rolled her eyes. "Although it was stupid that it was because of me."
"You're gorgeous." He blurted out, which shocked the hell out of them both.
"Oh." And she was really caught off guard once more. This was becoming a thing a with him, wasn't it?
"And I'm sorry again for that." Landon was now blushing and Natalie found it highly irresistible.
"You're cute when you blush, Landon."
And Landon couldn't keep restraining himself. He lowered his head and stared at his feet. "Um, Natalie...?"
"Yes?"
"Would you give me permission to try something?"
"Okay..."
She was beginnig to look more and more puzzled. But right then, Landon lifted his head and slowly took hers in his hands, his thumbs caressing her cheeks, while his other fingers played with her hair. Natalie's heart beat faster and faster as she saw him closing in on her face but never taking his eyes off her. But still, she didn't move. Finally their lips met and Landon took her in for a kiss. A soft, tender, shy kiss. She looked around confused, but after a few seconds of feeling Landon's "experienced" lips upon hers, she gave in, closed her eyes and kissed back.
It was sweet, refreshing and light. For her part, she had never been kissed so gently. And it drove her crazy. Landon nibbled softly on her lower lip, bitting it lightly, sending shivers down her spine. Now, she wanted to be kissed like that forever. But then, all of the sudden...a knock on her door.
Once she realized what she was indeed doing, she pushed Landon away and hurried to the door. She fixed herself up before opening and when she did, she felt caught.
"Hi!"
"Hi...Orlando."

Re: Somersault
Cont. Chapter twelve
Orlando looked over Natalie’s shoulder and saw a fidgeting Landon. He furrowed his eyebrows and clenched his jaw, staring intently at the unexpected guy. Then his eyes roamed Natalie’s with a deep sense of protectiveness.
“Am I interrupting something?” He asked with a diplomatic yet bitter tone.
“Just some unpacking.” Natalie smiled uneasily and asked him to enter. Orlando smiled back at her without a suspicion in the world and as he walked past her he put his right hand on her waist, making Natalie gasp slightly. As he kept walking, his hand slid off her body and the final, light caress of his fingers was even better. She cleared her throat and found her voice again as she shut the door behind her. “I thought you were coming a bit later. How did the photo shoot go?”
“It didn’t. They pushed it for tomorrow.” Orlando didn’t turn around, but kept walking towards Landon. This alarmed Natalie and she followed with a quick pace.
“Orlando, you remember Landon, right?” She was trying to sound as composed and relaxed as possible.
“Sure.” He wasn’t smiling. Okay, maybe he was. But it was one of those smiles that just scream out: ‘I really don’t like you.’ “I’m Orlando…Bloom.” His arm was extended waiting for a greeting; then again Landon was completely star struck.
“Of course you are, man! Sh*t!” Poor Landon, he didn’t quite realize that Orlando was getting what he wanted: making him look like a total idiot in front of Natalie. “Wow…I loved those pirate movies! And the one with Brad Pitt?”
“Troy?”
“Yes, that one! F*cking great, man.”
“Glad you liked it.”
Natalie looked at them both, smiling playfully. “I’m going to move some boxes to my room.” She said as she signaled a stack of a couple of boxes and began to walk away, leaving the two fellows to generate some sort of conversation. But Orlando quickly flinched away from Landon and towards Natalie.
“Do you want some help, love?” Natalie heard him call her “love” for the first time and it was cuter than she could’ve imagined. She offered him a bright smile and caressed his left shoulder gently.
“I can manage…but thanks, though.” He smiled back warmly and purred in his mind as he felt her touch so tender. So, there was a cute moment between them, both smiling lovingly towards the other. “I think you should keep him company.” Natalie said as she nodded at Landon who was just standing there with his hands tucked away in his jean pockets, staring at the view that her wide windows were offering.
Orlando scrunched his nose and pouted. Gave Landon a quick glance over his shoulder and then turned his attention back her lady friend. “Do I have to?” He whined. Natalie softly pushed him as she giggled. Once he settled back into position, his smile faded and added with a deep honesty on his tone: “I mean, I’d rather be with you. Helping.”
It was sort of painful to hear him say that, even more, to feel her heart quicken its beat and her cheeks blush terribly. If only she hadn’t let Landon kiss her just before he arrived, then she wouldn’t have felt so guilty and she would’ve enjoyed that moment and probably even replied something enticing. But if she did, she’d feel dirty…and not in the good way. This image she had built of him was far too amazing to spoil with her previous “friendly” encounter with Landon. If by any reason at all, Orlando were the least bit interested in her, she’d go crazy at the idea of being with him. He was beautiful and incredibly unique. The idea of breaking the rules of the “lady-like conduct” and asking to kiss him had crossed her mind. But as soon as the awkward and uninvited, yet sweet kiss she shared with Landon came flashing back to her head, she stepped back and swallowed her true wants.
In all her restrained impulses, she spotted a very small piece of lint between his eyebrows and found it terribly difficult not to take it as an excuse to touch him. “You have something…right here…” She brushed it gently away, tickling him with her nails. “There.” Her eyes met his and felt chills at the thought of looking at them from a closer distance.
“So, what’s in those boxes?” Orlando voice put a screeching halt to her thoughts. Natalie felt embarrassed as she realized how silly she had been acting towards him. Chuckling softly at her stupid imagination she replied: “Shoes, clothes…the things I use to cover myself up. When I don’t feel like running around naked.” Even when she didn’t want to, she was flirting. Suddenly she felt that having kissed a man, that wasn’t her dear Bo, was somewhat…freeing. In a twisted way, of course. For the first time in the two months she had spent back in the city, she felt exhilarated, excited.
After her cheeky remark, she noticed Orlando’s raised eyebrow and surprised look on his face and she laughed.
“What?” Natalie asked innocently.
“What was that?”
“What was what?”
“Did we just cross a line here?” He was baffled but intrigued at the same time. Never had the idea of her being naked, ever crossed his mind. But in an unexpected twist, she had subtly brought it up. Although, he wasn’t sure if she meant it like that, or if he was just a bit perverted. Orlando waited for an answer but Natalie just couldn’t stop blushing.
Before either one of them would say something else that would bring even more silliness to their chat, they heard a loud and techno-ish tone come from a phone. They looked at each other and wondered if it was their own, but no.
“Hey, mom!” Orlando and Natalie heard Landon practically shout. “What?… Is she okay?... I’ll be right there.” And he hung up. Landon turned around and saw them both looking at him…and it didn’t affect him not one bit. “I have to go, babe.” Natalie felt Orlando’s eyes fixed upon her, creating almost a burning sensation. Still, she played it cool.
“Everything all right?”
“Yeah…just a family thing. Someone needs me.”
“Okay. I’ll walk you to the door.” Natalie headed towards it, with her arms crossed and her usual glorious head of hair bouncing with her walk. Landon followed her with his eyes and smiled sensually at her. He took the first steps to follow her but then stopped and looked back at Orlando, who was standing there…smirking suspiciously at him. “Orlando, man…nice talk. Good luck with Troy 2.” And he left with confidence.
Once he reached the door, where Natalie was standing, he stopped and stood in front of her. “I hope I’m not being too forward here, but—“
“Oh, Landon, but you are.” She was trying to sound as polite as she could.
“Oh…” And he was completely destroyed.
“You’re a good kisser, though.” Natalie smiled when he smiled first.
“Why, thank you. So are you…” Landon and Natalie chuckled softly. “Anyways, I hope I see you again.”
“Maybe you will.”
“When? –I mean…good!” A short pause. “Bye, babe.”
“Um…okay…bye, Landon.” Both made simple nods with their heads and as soon as Natalie saw him get on the elevator, she slowly closed the door. Now, she was alone…with the other “him”.

Re: Somersault
A change in POVs!!
Cont. Chapter twelve
After I shut the door, I could feel knots building in the pit of my stomach, for I had realized that we were left alone. And the fact that I had let Landon kiss me like that, just seconds before Orlando knocked on my door, didn’t make it any easier. I didn’t want to tell him anything, even though he was now a friend. But did I want him to be just a friend? I mean, it was all sort of confusing. He was amazing and beautiful and I was just nobody that met him by chance. Yet now, he was standing in my apartment.
I turned around and gasped in fright when I saw him standing right behind me. He just smiled.
“Sorry…”
“It’s okay. I just…didn’t expect you.” I was still grasping my breath.
He shifted playfully from side to side, as if swaying to an imaginary tune, his smile still drawn across his face. I wondered what the heck he was doing and looked at him and stifled a giggle. “Are you dancing? Why are you dancing?”
“Who says I am…babe?”
“Babe?”
“Do you like it when guys call you ‘babe’?”
I walked right pass him without really knowing what he was talking about. “No…not really.” Orlando followed me as I headed toward my bedroom, after grabbing the boxes filled with clothes.
“Then how come that Landon bloke calls you ‘babe’?”
After I put the box on top of the bed, I turned around…slowly, terrified of what he was thinking; maybe even suspecting. We looked at each other and right away I noticed just how badly he wanted me to answer. My first reaction was to lie, to say something like: ‘I have absolutely no idea!’ Or ‘Maybe he just says that to every girl.’ But I came to realize, just as those words were about to slip out of my mouth, that ever since I met Orlando, I haven’t been nothing but honest. It was just something that I couldn’t help. His presence made me speak the truth always and he had been nothing but gracious as I poured my feelings on the table. So I figured I had to be sincere.
“Well…” Even when I knew he would take it in, in stride, I felt extremely embarrassed. “At first he was calling me ‘Ms. Martin’, then 'Ms. Natalie', which I thought was kinda cute. Bizarre, but cute.” Then as I felt the tough part coming, I sat down on my bed and he just leaned against the wall, arms crossed.
“Yes…?”
I took a deep breath. “But then…we, sort of…”
“Yes??”
“Kissed.” I mumbled.
“Sorry?” He sat up straight and leaned closer to better hear. “What was that? You sort of, what?”
“Kissed.” I knew that I was clearly blushing and when he sat down next to me, with a look of disbelief on his face, I knew that I had to go into specifics.
“You…and…Landon?? Landon. You and Landon!”
“I know!! I shouldn’t have done it! I shouldn’t have let him! It was stupid, really stupid.” I blurted out in one breath. Suddenly I felt exhausted and fell backwards to the comfort of my bed. Orlando, on the other hand kept looking at me with a shocked expression. “Please don’t look at me like that…” I threw an arm over my face in shame. When I lifted it, his face hadn’t changed one bit. “Stop it!!” And then he just began to laugh.
“Why did you do it then?”
“I don’t know! But certainly, not because I wanted to!”
His laughter trailed off and he leaned back, resting his body right next to mine; the both of us, staring at the ceiling. All of the sudden, I could see him with the corner of my eye, gently staring at me. This made the knots in my stomach build up again.
“Who do you want to be kissed by, then?” His voice was merely a whisper and his soft breath tickled the tiny hairs on my neck, sending shivers down my spine. I looked at him and saw the most dazzling smile. I couldn’t tell if he was kidding or if he was serious about the whole ‘kissing’ thing. So, since I was raised to believe that good girls don’t play (and when I say ‘play’, I mean ‘flirt’) along with things like that, I decided to be safe and naïve.
“Prince Charming!” I sighed mockingly.
“I thought you said he didn’t exist.”
“He doesn’t…” And I stared back at the ceiling, hands folded over my chest. Afterwards, a good ten minutes passed. And all we did was hear each other’s breaths, how steady they both were and how comfortable we sounded. I was truly at ease with him. Then, I could sense him trying to build up the courage to say something, but he kept holding it back. “Orlando, what are you trying to say?” I looked at him but he wouldn’t do the same.
“Can the prince exist just for now?” And he turned his head to face me.
“What?” My voice trembled and I began to heave softly.
“You say that you’d agree to be kissed by him. I want to know, that if you say that he doesn’t exist, if you’d be willing to let him be real...now.”
“I don’t know…" Our eyes were locked and all we could see in each other was this deep desire to have that moment. “Is that what you want?” I asked without knowing what else to say.
“I do.” He said that with the most certain and convinced tone that I had ever heard him speak in. But then he added: “I do…but this is your place. Your place…your rules. You decide.”
His way with words had me in a trance. At that moment, I just wanted to lean over him and kiss him as wonderful as I imagined it to be. But then, the memory of being kissed not too long ago by someone else came back. Then, the memory of Bo also reappeared and I immediately felt guilty. Guilty for kissing someone, guilty for wanting to kiss someone else and guilty for wanting to do it all in one day.
“Right now…you have no idea how much I want to, Orlando.” His eyes immediately lit up. “But even though I do, I can’t.” The light in his eyes faded away.
“You can’t?”
“It won’t feel…perfect.”
Orlando looked at me with loving eyes and with soft motions he took my hand and kissed it gently. The sensation of his lips against my skin was wonderful beyond doubt, making it harder for me to stand firm on my decision. After placing my hand back on my chest, he sighed and went back to stare at the same old ceiling. “Your place, your rules.”
I kept looking at him and had to smile at how breathtaking he was. “Now what?”
“Now…” He sighed. “I’ll help you move in.”
“Good…”
