Public art

Hubby and I were shopping for a cast iron skillet today. There just so happens to be a fairly new Sur La Table (high end kitchen store) near us and I remembered that they also had canning jars. Seems I've run out of pint jars and the two places in town that I now carry them are out right now!

So off we went. The store is in a fancy new shopping center - Macy's, 5th avenue, Apple, and a bunch of other pricey places that I would never even want to go to! When the place was built a few years ago, the builders commissioned a bunch of local artists to do works for the place. I wish they had rented to local stores...anyway. My brother's collaborative art group, Sodalitas, was commissioned to do to works and I took a picture of one of them today. This is paint on steel and is probably 15 feet by 30 feet.

That's rather ... unusual, but very beautiful.

Thanks for sharing! emoticon

Yeah, they do some odd stuff! Here is a link to their site if you are interested - just click a thumbnail - and there are more sections of the left for other kinds of work.

Wow, that is neat! I have a neighbor whose hubby is a welder and he has done all sorts of neat stuff, she is always telling me about it...someday I am going to make her take a camera and get pics of it all and we can put it in an album!

I have no idea how I missed this thread!

That's quite an interesting piece of artwork! I know you're proud of your brother and his group for getting that commission. I'm glad the builders at least tried to commission local artists...that's actually pretty rare anymore.

Kudos to the Sodalites!!!!!
