The Wedding!!!
Whew, everyone is finally gone and life can go back to normal! It was an absolute blast but I don't think I've ever been so happy to get back to work so I can sit for a few hours! The whole thing went off without a hitch. No one seemed very weirded out by all the non-traditional things. And I was actually shocked that everyone adhered to our plea for a casual wedding - no suits where worn! We did get a few gifts though, but most were handmade or something small and special instead of the usual stuff...and we did get a bit of money which of course is always nice!
On Friday I spent the day getting the last minute touches done at the farm. It was a perfect day - it had rained all week before so we really lucked out (and it's raining again now!). People played horseshoes, played with the donkey, chased the chickens and went on hayrides. I don't have many pictures from that day yet (I didn't take any and we are waiting on people to send us some!).
Then we settled down for the Tibetan Bowl concert. My mom and I knew that it was going to be a stretch for some people to enjoy, but it meant a lot to both of us so we really wanted to do it. Some of the more conservative folks had a funny look on their faces but I loved it!
Saturday was another crazy busy day. Our kitchen sink needed to be plumbed, knobs screwed onto bathroom cabinets, tables and chairs set up, etc. Oh, and we STILL hadn't bought rings! Four hours before the wedding we went to a really well known local jeweler and found some rings. Just plain silver bands that we both love.
At 3:30, we finally slipped off to get ready as guests started to arrive a little early. We didn't do any kind of grand entrance or anything. We just hung around with people before the ceremony and we even stood by the tree waiting for everything to start, so no aisle walking or anything. That was nice because people got a lot of photos out of the way beforehand! (I wish I had been standing on the other side since I was a little uphill and I look a foot taller than Chad in all of these shots! )
And then Cedric the Wizard performed the short ceremony. It was GREAT! We actually wrote the whole thing (taking things we found online) but he did an awesome job. He later admitted that it was his FIRST wedding! I'm glad he didn't tell us that beforehand. We did a hand blessing and a ring exchange and then finally we exchanged amulets that Corbin was so kind to make and send to us. After wards, only one or two people asked to see the rings but EVERYONE wanted to see the amulets. I heard from several people that the legend of the amulets Corbin wrote was the point in the ceremony when they got choked up! It was wonderful!
Then the food was served. It was probably the best food I've ever had. Four different kinds of dip (black bean, hummus and two I didn't know), asparagus, polenta, lentils, beets, vegetable gratin. It was great! Oh yeah, and of course there was some beef and pork for the carnivores! When everyone was sitting around eating, wondering if it was going to be a boring party, a mariachi band came through the gate playing music for a grand entrance. Everyone gasped and started clapping! They were an awesome group. One of hubby's cousins who had never heard mariachi before now wants one for her wedding next year!
After the mariachi's played and everyone ate, we had a pinata for the kids. They loved it! My brother got the pinata and he thought it was going to be for adults so he got an adult pinata (they are stronger built) - it took FOREVER to break but it was hilarious. Usually kid pinatas bust after 2 or 3 hits so this was much better!
Then we had cheesecake and an Irish Fiddle band played. They were really excellent. At this point, hubby's Gramma Joy apparently had a bit too much to drink!
And finally, the Bedlam Bards, a Renaissance Fair band, played. They are used to carrying all their instruments and it was so neat to watch them pull one thing out after another while they played. They were good general entertainers too - they talked about old bard traditions and passed around instruments and just generally gave a good show.
And the next morning, my aunt threw a hang-over brunch for the out of town people that were headed for the airport. Again the food was delicious. That party was far fancier than our actual wedding in fact! It was the perfect lounge around and chat time though. Everyone was completely exhausted by this point - including us!
I'm sure some more great pictures will filter to us so I might post some especially good ones. I promise not to bombard you too much!

Re: The Wedding!!!
Out of all the wedding celebrations I've been to and heard about..... yours is my favourite and I wasn't even there! LOL
What a fantastic celebration and here's to the beautiful couple!
<lifts up his glass of grape juice in a toast>
May you have -
Walls for the wind
And a roof for the rain,
And drinks beside the fire
Laughter to cheer you
And those you love near you,
And all that your heart may desire

Re: The Wedding!!!
I'll second Curious's toast! (since I'm not that clever).
The wedding sounds so much better than the big stuff white dress events I've been to, and much more fun. Great goings - May all your married days be as good to you.
Many blessings for a great life together.

It's an old celtic blessing my irish step-grandparents used to say, I didn't make it up because I'm not that clever either
