Work in progress
A few days ago, we managed to get the air conditioning removed from the house, and today, we got the propane tank disconnected and removed the gas pipe. It feels a lot better without the mess of pipes and wires. This evening we got the furnace out, and into the dumpster - the amount of black mold inside that thing was unbelievable - just getting it out of the house made the whole place smell much better. Inspecting the filth showed fungus, thick black and smelly, with mold and rotten something, trapped within the area where the A/C transfers cold air to the furnace fan. The one place that you have to dismantle the entire thing, to get to. I can't believe how much better the house smells, just by getting rid of that.
In the process I discovered that sheet metal is very dirty, and very sharp. I managed to slice my thumb, and then my wrist with it, necessitating voluminous application of alcohol cleaner to the wounds. Ouch... But, now the cook stove is fueled by a 40lb propane tank, and the 400 gallon tank is being collected by the company sometime soon. That makes all of us feel like maybe we will be getting the house set up as we have wanted for the last few years. Shame the sewer pipe is not large enough for two toilets.. never mind, it doesn't matter, and what are plans, if not for changing.
It is amazing how much room the furnace took up, with it out of the way, the closet is huge. That is where the new shower will be going in the next week or two, we have to wait for month's end pay, and some fittings the ACE doesn't get in till June.
It will be great to have everything finished, but what then - this project has been going on for the last five years, and now there is not much of the original house left - and that won't be there in a year or so. When we finish, what do we do then? I have scary dreams of compulsive remodeling..

Re: Work in progress
I'm very glad you got that moldy thing out of your house! Too bad you got injured during the process.
And you know what? When you finally finish with the house, you can start on a barn.

Re: Work in progress
I don't think I will ever run out of things to do - we need a greenhouse, or two, another, larger barn, a potting shed, canopies for the vehicles, and a driveway for the trailer. The RV pad has grass around it, so getting a driveway to it, would make using the trailer a lot easier.

Re: Work in progress
WOW...I'm glad you got that old stuff out of your way and things are smelling better. It's amazing what can collect in some of those things, huh?
I hope you're healing quickly. I'm sorry you're having to heal at all....that had to hurt!!
Now, see, you knew all along that you had other things that needed doin, you just didn't think of them when you wrote the first post! I'm glad you'll still have things to keep your mind and hands busy.

Re: Work in progress
It really is amazing how much better the house smells - since we moved in there had been a smell that hid in the background, making the house smell bad on a hot day when we came home. Now that is completely gone - the house, even in severe stages of reconstruction, smells good.

Re: Work in progress
I wish our house were better suited to not have AC. At the moment, it just wouldn't be possible. We can go with no AC until it hits the mid 90s and then it gets hard. If the house were in more shade, had thicker walls, etc it wouldn't be a big deal. We are working on that sort of thing though!
Congrats on the work! I'm a compulsive remodeler too!

Re: Work in progress
We will see how the summer pans out - if all else fails, we can go buy a window unit.
Today we didn't get much done on the house, as a couple of beds needed creating - garden type - The Frog bought a basket full of seedlings, to go with her three trays of developing seedlings, and decided that she needed a new bed to plant 'em in..
Luckily, having the Grillo walking tractor makes it pretty easy - took the brush hog off, put the rotary cultivator on, swung the controls around, and started tilling. Ten minutes later, a 20 ft by 8 ft bed.. Then the back breaker - raking all the roots out with a hand rake. I do the heavy work, the Frog gets to plant the seedlings.

Re: Work in progress
I'm glad you have at least some technical help for digging a new bed. And...
Yay for seedlings!
