International Clothesline Week
It has just come to my attention that I have ignored the first few days of International Clothesline Week!!! How could this happen!?!?
But seriously, it's actually a good cause. (who comes up with these things anyway...and how do you get "international" or "national" status?). Here's the idea:
For at least one week, International Clothesline Week encourages the public to hang clothes to dry instead of using their electric or gas dryer. If you can, make it a lifetime practice. Like a new years resolution make it the beginning of a new “healthy” habit. If you already do hang your clothes, commit to encouraging at least one other person, IN THE WORLD, to hang their clothes and/or commit to doing something else for the environment.
It started on Saturday...so you guys better get a move on!
We have no washer or dryer at home any more as we have donated those appliances to the farm. We do hang dry all of the cheese making cloths but not the regular clothes. I'll see if I can convince the folks out there to give it a shot!

Re: International Clothesline Week
I don't own a dryer, so for me, it's the International Clothesline Year, every year.
Seriously, I use a clothesline on the balcony, but more often a stand with wires for drying my clothes indoors. In winter, it sure helps with the dry air caused by heating.
When I grew up, we had clotheslines in the basement, where the heating system was. There was always warm, dry air down there.

Re: International Clothesline Week
I've been thinking about buying an umbrella clothesline to use here.
Once we get onto our homestead I'll be installing a permanent one.

Re: International Clothesline Week
I much prefer to hang my clothes on the line. As I type this, I have a set of bed sheets and a blanket out on the line. Rain, you say???? Well, the above mentioned items are a LOT wetter than they were when they were hung out there!! We had a BAD storm roll through here a bit ago. Oh well. Rain water never hurt a bed sheet. It'll get dry eventually!
I had a dryer, and I do use it in the winter, but in summer, if I'm able, I hang them out doors. I love how a home looks with fresh laundry hung out blowing in a breeze...and the smell....ohhhh yes!! Not much better!!!
