Summer 09 Weightloss

Well, how did everyone do in the spring? Me? Not so good. BUT, something did happen.

After gaining 10 pounds over the last couple of months, a *spark* occurred. Just last week, something clicked and I feel like I'm really ready to lose weight and not have to fight to do it. Feels good. And now I really think I need to be serious about reporting it and working on it and setting goals.

So I will weigh in once a week on Mondays. I'd like to lose 1% a week for the rest of the summer (which here lasts until mid-Sept).

Who's with me?!?!

So to start:

June 22: 205

Ouch. Ah well, why not start right at the top? emoticon

Re: Summer 09 Weightloss

I need to get some more accurate scales. I think mine have finally bit the dust.

At last weigh-in at the doctor (which was Wed. the 24th), I was at 207. I think I have hit a plateau. I am bouncing between 204 and 207.

My goal is STILL to get under 200 by the end of summer. Summer officially ends in September, so I am seriously hoping to be under 200 by the time I leave for my camping trip on Sept.12th, 2009.

My next biggest problem is the fact that, even though I am losing, it doesn't much look like I am. I need to find some kind of exercise to tighten lose belly flab that won't injure my back or neck. Any suggestions???? Keep in mind, I can't do crunches (or I would!!!!!) and I can't run/jog. I AM mowing the front and side yard once a week, but I need more. something a bit more that targets specifically the belly, and possibly hips.
I am seriously thinking of getting my doc to send me to PT for JUST a consultation for specific exercises for this purpose. But, any suggestions y'all may have will sure help!

I'M WITH YA, TEXAS...LET'S GO Y'ALL!!!

Re: Summer 09 Weightloss

Unfortunately, our bodies don't accept spot treatments. I surely wish they did! The fat just comes off at it's own pace in the places it wants to. You can work on building up the muscles underneath so that when you lose the fat, you have something to show, but you can't make your stomach disappear faster than it wants to. Sigh. I know JUST how you feel.

BUT, I think it's worth figuring out some good exercises for you anyway - anything that doesn't overly stress your back on any of your joints is a good idea, no matter what exact muscle it is working.

Have you tried yoga? I find it to be the best exercise when I'm at my high weight like this. No jumping around impacting my joints, etc. A lot of it can be modified to not put pressure on your back.

For instance, I like to wake up to a set or two of Sun Salutations. Though for you, I would skip the back bend. And then go straight from 'gentle twist' to 'dog pose'. The poses in between strain my back and I don't have any problems with it!

Ooo! And I found a whole page of yoga for back pain.

I'll see if I can think of anything else...

Re: Summer 09 Weightloss

Things are looking good for me, which is amazing.

I now have a "good" reason to lose weight, which is my high blood pressure (under control now). I've started some serious Nordic Walking, and I've been doing it twice a week for the last four weeks, in addition to walking or cycling to work. And since the end of May, I've lost two kg. Tomorrow, I'll weigh in again.

My goal is to get below 70kg this year. Preferably by the end of summer, but I don't want to stress myself. Right now, all I do is to cut out sweets, exercise and only eat when I'm hungry. I find it easier to tolerate a slight rumble in the stomach now, and I rarely eat for boredom. I hope I can keep this up, because I really want to go back to being in shape. I finally want to enjoy shopping for clothes!

Re: Summer 09 Weightloss

A new phase of my weightloss started this week - for some reason, I am eating a lot less. This, I hope, will kick start resumption of loss.

Good goin, Firle and muladzh!! Just imagine how nice and trim we're all gonna look by the end of summer!! emoticon

You know, we really should take some 'before' and 'after' pics and post them so we can all see the progress. What do y'all think? Just a pair of shorts and a shirt or something. If you agree, it needs to be a full body photo, so someone else will need to take it. Only post a new pic maybe once a month to make it easier, or even every other month. What do y'all think???

I would not risk offending everyone by ever taking a photo of me, showing size... emoticon

However, we are clearing boxes of everything, to get the possessions down to a size that will fit in this house, and came across a kit bag, that I had stored clothing from a couple of years ago in... There was one pair of shorts that I tried on last fall, and put away because I could not fit in 'em. Today, when rooting through the bad, to thin it out a bit, I came across the shorts - size 44, and tried 'em on. They fit. Which means I have lost about 6 inches round my middle since Samhain - I am rather pleased about this.

Re: Summer 09 Weightloss

I'll post some pics...let me lose a little then I'll feel better about it!

Weigh-in today was not so good...

6-22: 205
6-29: 205 (203)

The number in red is my goal. The next time I will be able to weigh in is on the 13th (I'll be out of town) so hopefully things will start moving!

7-13: (199)

Can I really do that on vacation? Well, we will be hiking and such. Hopefully!

I need to get some scales before I post any pics of my sorry self..lol. I'd like to be able to post a weight along with the photo.
I read somewhere NOT to keep your scales in your bathroom. I guess it has something to do with the moisture from the shower or something.

muladzh, you don't have to post a pic if you don't want to, but I doubt any of us would be offended at all. we love ya just like you are...weight has nothing to do with that. It's your choice, though, and none of us will pressure you.
