Poor kitty...

We took the farm kittens to the vet on Monday to be spayed and neutered. They were certainly old enough and we don't need anymore kittens!

Molasses, the little boy, was up and bouncing around by the time we got home. Boys don't get general, so he wasn't groggy at all. In fact, he was pretty much a terror since we needed to keep him inside the rest of the day to make sure he was ok. His mom hissed and growled at him every time he came near - I guess she can smell the vet's office on him as the last time she went was to get spayed!

Barley, our terrible girl, was SUPER groggy. They couldn't eat until 8 that night. The grogginess didn't stop her from jumping on the counter to see if we had left anything out! We had to keep her closed up most of the night since she wasn't supposed to be doing anything like that. She looked terribly pathetic with her shaved belly. She already sits funny for a cat, but it was really exaggerated. Her front paws were next to her back paws and she would sit there with her eyes closed swaying back and forth like she was about to go to sleep. I couldn't get a great picture of her but I did get one snap...oh crud, it's on my other computer! I'll post it tonight!

Today they are back to normal, bouncing off the walls and chasing grasshoppers. It's nice to know that we won't have another cat population explosion! Just one more to go - the true stray cat Riley. He won't let us touch him. If he hasn't warmed up soon, we might just have to trap him!

I was taught a good cat trap by a vet:

Use an old pillow case, place some food in it and hold it open invitingly. Most cats go into it, and then stop struggling very quickly, because the cloth holds them firmly.

Might be worth a try. emoticon

Here's Barley!

She stood around like that all day! It reminds me of when Kali got spayed and she spent the whole day sleeping like this:

We've always had our animals fixed (well, our pets, not the livestock!). We had a few litters of kittens when I was a kid but not for over 20 years!

Tonight is my first time seeing Barley since the day after her surgery. She looks MUCH better though she is still acting subdued - though most people who didn't know her wouldn't notice! I haven't even seen her climb the curtains once tonight! emoticon

When we got Zargon fixed, she was groggy for so long that we actually had to take her back to the vet for some kind of antidote. Apparently it was because she was small, and had very little body fat... at least that's what the vet said. He may have overdosed her, though...

She's been fine, though, for the last eight years.

Getting them fixed is a heck of a lot better than having them run around in heat all the time. Trust me on this - none of our indoor female cats have been fixed (4 of 'em).
