Hello from VA (soon to be UT!)

Hey all! Found this group on the homesteadingtoday forum, glad to find a group that is more "pagan friendly" emoticon

I'm living in Northern Virginia right now but I'll be moving to Utah this summer. House hunting in a few weeks, hoping to find something with an acre or two that is in my price range emoticon

I've been studying wicca and paganism in general off and on for over 16 years now, after spending my youth in a very strict catholic household. Now struggling to raise my two kids away from the influence of my still very catholic parents, which is an ongoing experience emoticon

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hanging out here and learning something new!

Hi GlassPainter!

My mom's family all live around Salt Lake City. What part of Utah are you looking for a house in?

HI and Welcome, Glasspainter emoticon

What a change you'll have....from VA to UT!

My step kids used to live in NE VA...Culpeper, to be exact. Where in VA are you at the moment? If you don't mind saying, that is. I am in NE TN, above Knoxvile.

Much luck, and fun, house hunting. It's always fun to look emoticon

I'm sure you'll not only learn while here, but teach as well.
I look forward to your posts, and learning more about you and your family, and what things you'd like to see happen on those couple of acres you're searching for emoticon....

Again...Welcome!!!!

Re: Hello from VA (soon to be UT!)

Saijen,

I'm just outside of Fredericksburg, not too far from Culpepper really. I grew up in this area, but I've moved around WV, VA and NC for about 15 years now. Landed back in my hometown and remembered how much I hate being within spitting distance of DC, so I'm heading out to Utah. I swear this is the last time I'm moving... I promised my kids and I'm going to stand by my word.

TexasMadness,

My new job is in Ogden, and I told the real estate agent I want to be within 45 minutes of there. Can't handle more than that for a daily commute!

I'm hoping to expand my rabbitry, have room for my dogs to stretch their legs, and I'm contemplating a cow or two for milking. I'd like to do chickens, but I'm not sure how that would go over with all the dogs hanging around.... I have an Anatolian Shep that was raised with goats, but I've heard that goats are master escape artists so that's not going to work for us.

I also want to try my hand at a veggie garden; I have a brown thumb but I'm determined to succeed. I have great luck with animals, terrible luck with plants emoticon Hoping to reverse that luck thou!!

Ooo! There is the neatest knitting shop in Ogden. I think it's the Needlepoint Joint. I'm jealous! emoticon

The more you practice with the garden, the better it'll get. I struggled a lot - and still do. But I love it! I still kill house plants but I can grow more tomatoes than I know what to do with!
