posticon Board Tech

In this thread I'll list a few things about the technical stuff of this board - how certain things work. If you have a specific question, send me a pm or email (you'll see a link at the bottom of the board). Of course, there's always Runboard Support which is where a few friends and I answer any kind of questions about Runboard. emoticon

How to post a picture.

First, you have to find an internet host for your picture. Try to use a picture that's not too big. I use Imageshack, but there's also Photobucket. These providers allow you to upload your picture onto their server and link to them.

Imageshack give you a website from which you can search through your own computer (like on the windows explorer) until you locate the image file you want to upload. Then you just have to hit the button "Host it!".

Imageshack will give you a number of links. That's a little tricky, so scroll down to the last one: "direct link to the image". Copy it (hit Cntrl+c).

Use this code to put the picture into a post:

[*img]put the link here[/img*] (without the stars)

Any questions?

Here is a beginner's guide to creating a web site and basic HTML http://www.htmlgoodies.com/introduction/intro/

Here is a great HTML editor that is "Care Ware". To be able to own it you need to help or smile at someone. http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/

Runboard Conversion

For various reasons, the Runboard coding has been rewritten. Among other things, it'll make Runboard much faster.

At the moment, Pagan Porch is running on the old code. However, the process to convert old boards to the new code has already begun. The changes will be slight, but behind the scenes, improvement will be great:

- The "New" feature will work as planned, and show you only unread posts.

- The forums will no longer have names in the link. Instead, they will be numbered. This does NOT affect the names listed on the board, just the links.

- In the long run, backup downtime will be much shorter.

Just note that the board will appear as "suspended" during the conversation, and won't be available for a while. This only safeguards against posts being lost during the conversion period.

You're welcome. emoticon

Just didn't want you to get all scared when seeing "This board has been suspended."

I have no idea when it will happen, though.

Re: Board Tech

We can now embed YouTube videos. You'll see the button for it right above the window you use to post anyway.

It's important that you don't add the whole url, just the ID part of it, which comes after the v=.

Have fun! emoticon
