Is this corny, or what....
DH just picked one row of corn....we got it all shucked and only had to throw away one ear. Got it inside to the sink, washed and silked it all, put it into freezer bags (gallon sized) and man, oh man, I have corn comin out my ears!! We put up 15 gallon bags with between 8 and 9 ears per bag...so, roughly between 120 and 130 ears....and that was JUST ONE ROW!!!!! We have 2 and a half more rows to go. Needless to say, a LOT of corn will be given away to those who will appreciate it!!! The shucks were put into a garbage bag to go across the road to Noah, the neighbor's donkey.

Re: Is this corny, or what....
Yeah, it is. I'm going to have to find some recipes for different things you can do with corn. Corn on the cob..or at least that much of it, gets old after a while. I may fry some, cut some off the cob for whole kernal corn, and no telling what else I may end up doing!! Got any good recipes that use corn??

That corn pudding/bread type of dish.
It's almost more of a bread pudding consistency, but I know it's corn bread with corn and creamed corn in it.
Can you steam the kernels and use it in a vegetable salad, maybe with green peas?
What type, Silver Queen? Peaches N Cream?

Woohooooo! I love corn on the cob, but of course, that's not all you can do with it.
My mother used to make a "Serbian Rice Dish" with corn, corned beef and rice. I don't know the recipe in detail, but I assume it was just thrown together as quick dinner.

Re: Is this corny, or what....
All that stuff sounds good!!
I think I'm safe for the moment. DH let the guy that works directly under him come and pick some today, and DH picked some to take to a couple of other co-workers tomorrow, so I'll be OK....I think LOL. I do still have all that in the freezer, and corn on the cob is OK for just a certain amount of meals, then it gets old.....Fenyx, I'll have to see if I can find a corn pudding recipe, and Firle, I may be able to come up with something similar....one never knows about me.

Re: Is this corny, or what....
if you planted an open pollinated/heirloom variety, i would be certain to save about 3 times the amount of seed you plan to plant next year. that way even if you had a crop failure next year you would have plenty of seed to keep it going.
i might even try to dry some corn and try and grind it into meal/flour

Re: Is this corny, or what....
I think what was planted ended up being cross bred between gold and silver queen corn. It looks and tastes almost like the 'peaches n cream' corn, so I don't think it's an heirloom variety. I'm not sure what varieties are heirloom and what aren't, to be honest.
I've never dried and ground corn before. I may need to search the web for some good methods, unless you have some, heritage.
Edited to add: We just put about another 93 ears of corn in the freezer!
