Corvus, if you're referring to my statement about bars and smoking...I may not have made myself clear on that. Bars are exempt from the no smoking laws, because they are there solely for entertainment.

Unfortunately in many areas this is not true. Smoking is being banned in all public areas in many places; for example, the city of London. The laws are hard to enforce, but they have been made: no smoking in the pubs anymore. This is also happening in the United States, but I'll have to get back to you with specific examples. I know the place I live, Athens, OH, is trying to get such a ban put into place, but it's catching severe heat.

Cincinnati, OH has banned smoking in all public places. Florence is trying too but most of the Kentucky restaurant have banned smoking. I believe Frankfort KY has banned it as well. Nashville and Memphis are both working on legislation in TN

Re: Seat belt laws

But are laws that protect a person from themselves good or bad?

My husband smokes and I don't but I support his right to smoke when there are seperate places for smokers but with new laws even smoking sections are going. They are trying to ban smoking "outside" which is rather silly.

As to seat belts - another one I don't know about. I think that it should be up to the person to decide but at the same time I think that would then mean taking responsiblity. A lot of people sued tobacco producers, etc. for becoming addicted - as if they did not know? Same with seat belts - people were suing saying had this person not hit my family they would be alive - let's not forget that it took two - meaning if they did not wear a seatbelt they are partly to blame for their own death. Seatbelts don't guarantee life when you wreck.

Certain types of food are coming up for "banning", etc. I think we are getting riduculas with it. As my husband said - we all have the right to do stupid things that result in our deaths if we so choose. You can not be such a scardy cat your entire life - afraid to die or become sick.
