Until then I do not feel it is right that people being punished for heinous crimes can get for free, what I had to work my butt off for and am still paying for today (will likely be doing so for the next decade or so. Many average citizens still don't even try because they feel the situation (gaining an education) is so hopeless.
I am all for what I call "reform" classes offered at the prisons such as anger/stress management, gaining your G.E.D., parenting, learning simply finances (keeping a checking account, how to budget and so on)... etc. etc.
Maybe I'm just getting crabby in my old age

I guess this is more what I'm talking about - especially the GED part. Not college education necessarily, but perhaps trade schools. Though I believe that a prison could set up a system wherein prisoners work their butts off and earn the right to higher education.
