You're right Corbin. Practically everyone in my family read the books. My mom usually reads historical fiction, my dad doesn't read, my brother ONLY reads sci-fi and I read a mish mash of stuff. So it was neat to have everyone reading the same thing. And we shared the books around too!

Re: Harry Potter madness

I was pretty sure I had a post on this thread, but I don't see it anywhere. emoticon

I read all of the Harry Potter books, and was so upset that there weren't more...lol. I truly enjoyed them. My youngest daughter had a boxed set, then bought the last one separately and loaned it to me after she had read it. I have purchased a couple of the movies, and have seen some of the movies on TV. I'd eventually like to own all of the movies as well, even though I feel they fall way short of the books.

The movies were doomed to fall really short of the books. The books are so long with plenty of little side stories that a movie made for children could simply never get it all, or even very much! I kinda wish they had done each movie in the BBC mini series style with hour long episodes. I've seen some that are based on old books that are nearly 20 hours long! That would have been awesome!

Thought I'd better join in.

LOVE the Harry Potter books... read them all!

My favourite - "Order Of The Phoenix".

Hey TexasM - did you ever see the series they did based on the Mervyn Peake Gormenghast books?

The series wesn't nearly as good as the books (for those books, the beauty is in the weirdness of the writing), but they were far, far better than I would have thought possible, and well worth watching.

Gosh, I've never even heard of that - had to google it. I'm always looking for interesting things to watch and I think this just made the list!

If the film version is at all interesting to you, be sure to read the books.

Gormenghast is one of those things that would be a Great Classic of Literature - except that there is nothing enough like it to categorize it.

I guess it's fantasy... but a very unusual fantasy...
