TM - I understand where you are coming from. My wife was raised where "family time" centered around food and the television. That's all they (she and her brother) were given growing up. It's hard for her to break the chains of "tradition"...... or addiction.
Zephra - I wish my own mother was more like you  ...... for the opposite reasons ironically. She is very much of society and feels our kids need to be completely ingrained in modern society or they'll be "ostracized". Since we work hard to follow a different path.... one that she absolutely does NOT approve of. Therefore we do not get along very well.
If she accepted your motto (for opposite reasons) we would do so much better.
She's coming over tomorrow and I've been dreading it since the plans were made.... and won't breathe freely until she's gone 
Life is certainly ironic, eh?
