is there no way preventing this?
There is no way I know of personally. Maybe runboard will fix that problem someday, but for now, there does exist a way to smite people even when the board owner removes the 'smite' option.

… I know when we had the smite over at PH before it was removed, we figured out that you could accidently smite someone if you clicked on the karma button a little too far to the right (closes to the smite). It seemed to take care of the problem when we took the smite button off as I have not seen it since. The trouble people go through to just be mean :(
