guns in school?

due to the now occasional shooting events in schools all over the states
i was wondering what was the government doing about it, and it turns out that not much. i came across this *link removed* law article that summarizes the thoughts of a person about this and the act the government has been taking to deal with the situation and it turns out (although a little outdated but i couldnt find anything newer) that this "safe zones" school act just puts a big sign to any renegade kid or criminal that says: come on in and shoot we are defenceless.

so what should be done about it? i myself think that the teachers should carry guns to protect the kids but only after carefull screening and process. and if no such teacher is to be found then there should be police presence at all times during the school hours.

this is the article to anyone interested and do express your opinion

I don't agree with guns in general, and especially in schools. I think its terrible. But this is the kind of world we live in now. emoticon

My feelings... a gun is simply a tool to get a job done. Just put out the word that some of the schools staff may be carrying a weapon. Follow that up with a field trip where the school personnel try their hand at a gun range so no one really knows which member of the staff might have a weapon and you accomplish much more than you would with everyone knowing who has a gun and who doesn't.

Being raised with guns (Dad, uncle, cousins ETC) were all hunters, I was raised to handle and use them properly.
And sort of as Pastor said, if all the legal citizens can Legally carry a weapon.....I'm pretty sure that the thugs will not be quite so willing to pull a weapon on Grandma, if they think she may be toting! emoticon

Or they might kill her just because they think she has a gun. This is why SA has such high home invasion statistics. Youth gangs here tell each other that all rich people have guns because they want to kill people who break into their houses, so they plan home invasions specifically to get guns and they'll use any means possible to get in and to get the weapons. They poison guard dogs, bribe servants (or threaten to kill their families) to find where they are kept and if they find even one bullet in your house, they;ll torture you into telling them where the gun if even if you don't have one.
My ex was beaten with the gun that he kept under his pillow and which he pointed at the guy who broke into his house, luckily he wasn't killed. But he was made to hand over all the guns he'd had for decades.
Our gun laws are very, very strict for this reason. If you don't have a gun, you won't get killed with it in your own home.

Here the trend in the United States has been towards greater permissiveness of concealed carry. In Florida, which introduced the "shall-issue" concealed carry laws used as a model for other states, crimes committed against residents dropped markedly upon the general issuance of concealed-carry licenses.

My future Daughter-in-law who turns 21 next March and whose father teaches Hunter Education in MN, will be getting her permit on her Birthday.
Obviously I am for the right of Carry and Conceal.

I don't understand the idea of it's being against the law to carry a concealed weapon. Does that mean that if you are carrying a gun you have to show it? So you're not allowed to have a small handgun in your briefcase or strapped to your leg, you have to wear it like a fashion accessory?
If you did that in SA, you'd be mugged as soon as you walked out the door and probably be killed with the gun you were showing off.
My ex always used to say that he had no qualms about using a gun if someone broke into his house, that was until he actually pointed it at an intruder. His natural instinct to not kill kicked in and he couldn't pull the trigger. That was when it was taken away from him and he was beaten with it.
Here, in order to get a gun, you have to go for training and produce a certificate. You have to get two upstanding citizens to give a statement that you are fit to have a gun, then you have to wait for two years before you're allowed to get it, so that the reason for wanting the gun has to disappear. Mostly only die-hard racists have them here or people who use them for target-shooting and they keep them at the club.
If you have one in your home, it has to be kept in a safe at all times, you're not allowed to carry a gun on the street.

I find it all shocking that anyone needs to carry a gun. I remember one time going to the airport when I got married and was faced with security with guns, it scared me to death.

I believe in the ability to protect me and mine. If a gun is required then I should be willing to do whatever is needed to get it. The Constitution give us the right to bear arms. In some states like Arizona you can openly carry a gun and are required to use the gun checks in the finer establishments.

The homeowners association where I live is all private property and is entirely walled & gated so no one should be there that is not supposed to be. Yet I've been robbed twice, mugged and threatened here but outside these walls it's even worse.

The best advice I ever got was from a cop who said if I ever need to shoot someone in defense make sure 1. that they are on my property (even if I need to drag them onto it) and 2. that I kill them.

The courts are so corrupt and on someones payroll that criminals sue people for shooting them while they were robbing or shooting at them and they are winning these cases in court.

I have 2 registered guns and 2 unregistered because the day may come when our wonderful politicians decide that they don't want us able to stand up for our rights even against them. Then they will know where all the registered weapons can be found and collected.
