October 2006 Board of the Month
The Board of the Month for October 2006 is...
Outcast Island
Congratulations, Justbec!
Of course, I've sent Justbec the usual questions. Once more I believe you can learn a lot from the answers - especially if you're running a board yourself.
***************************
~~1. What made you decide to start a board?~~
I posted on a lot of boards and finally decided that I should focus my time and energy on one of my own. My friend Sue (Catcherlady) felt the same way so we finally took the plunge and started Outcasts.
~~2. What made you choose Runboard?~~
That is easy, Runboard is great. The set up is easy to learn and the Tech support is outstanding. Someone is always around to answer questions.
~~3. What's your target audience?~~
Anyone looking to have fun and meet new people. Outcasts is all about friendships. Some of us have known each other for over 6 years. But some of our members just joined and are great. We have one simple rule, treat people with respect and have fun! (ok, two rules then).
~~4. How did you get people to join? How did you advertise your board?~~
Well, mostly by putting a link in my signature and posting it on the Runboard directory. From there I just let people look in and hope they like it enough to stay.
~~5. What's the central theme of your board?~~
Lol, Outcasts and Pirates? Seriously, I'm not sure. I guess just having fun. For me Outcasts is a place to catch up with friends and not be serious. So we put the board in the middle of an Island. How can anyone be too serious on a beach?
~~6. What are the board rules and how important are they?~~
Board rules are very simple. Respect your fellow posters and NO flaming. And they are very important to us. I won't tolerate anyone insulting or harrassing our members. We love to argue, especially on the Mets board, but it's done in fun.
~~7. How important are the look and feel of the board? Or, are content and member involvement more important?~~
We take pride in the look but member involvement is most important. Usually when any change is made on the board design it's put up for a vote. I like to think of Outcasts as everyone's board, not just mine.
~~8. How do you keep interest up?~~
Wow, that's a hard one to answer cause some days I feel like no one is interested at all. I try to keep things fresh and different. Since we're a fantasy island that's usually pretty easy to do.
~~9. What's the best feature of your board?~~
Our members.
~~10. What are your plans for the future, boardwise?~~
Just to grow if possible and to make it a fun place. I try not to change designs much once I find something I like but every once in a while you have to change things up just a bit.
~~11. What would be your advice to a new Board owner? ~~
Don't get frustrated if things are slow at first. AND probably most important, be yourself. Have your own style. That's what attracts me to most boards, they aren't like all the others.
***************************
I very much agree with the words about patience. It takes a while to get the word out about a board.
Thanks, justbec! And congratulations again!
