July 2006 Board of the Month
The Board of the Month for July 2006 is...
CoffeeHouse
Congratulations, Sertab!
Of course, I've sent Sertab the same questions as every previous board owner, and she's been kind enough to answer them with much patience and insight. Enjoy!
***************************
~~1. What made you decide to start a board?~~
Like other pervious winners answers mine I think will be almost the same.
I came across message boards by pure accident about 5 years ago. First I was miffed then hooked and had the desire after bits of disappointment (lack of support etc) for one of my own. I went through various places once I found out there were such places as ‘free boards’, opened one and the ball got rolling so to speak, however due to the rules on no foreign languages being allowed or security set up was not met with a approval I went on searching and came across runboard some 3 years ago and I have stuck with it even with a name change.
~~2. What made you choose Runboard?~~
Oh I knew it as Akheva back then. I found it simple to use. I just find it all a great support and assistance. Once you get the basic use of how to set up a board I just fell in love with it all and I remained.
~~3. What's your target audience?~~
It has had a few changes over the years as most members loyal enough to say will tell you. We aim and hope that welcome anybody and everybody to chat, relax and have fun. They have to make sure they love coffee eerrr hmm the title of course (Pssst don’t let my members who love tea hear me say that )
~~4. How did you get people to join? How did you advertise your board?~~
Oh to start with it was friends I had made elsewhere on the net join just to help me (real friends in life too). I had also advertised as a signature on the other board I was a member/moderator on. People just followed the link and it just started to slowly build. Later on I advertised on the advert/directory. I advertised as signature and best all joined boards made my signature visible and it some how enticed people over.
~~5. What's the central theme of your board?~~
Oh it gone through various stages, The most up to date one was meant to be like a big book shop that covers everything from books, music, films and of course a café. I think it works well…I hope it does at least.
Oh the name reason for the name is because I like Coffee
~~6. What are the board rules and how important are they?~~
The usual rules that all boards have I suppose, nothing out of the ordinary. Have cakes and coffee, how about that?
~~7. How important is the look and feel of the board? Or, is content and member involvement more important?~~
The look kind of helps to possible gain members as doe the feel but members who actually stay and post work the best.
~~8. How do you keep interest up?~~
Have great members who go out of their way and keep the board active, without them you’re nothing.
~~9. What's the best feature of your board?~~
Great staff and members, the generic theme of the board I suppose. I also love the effective yet simple look of the layout I found by pure accident and another lovely staff member enhanced for me. (Thanks again J)
~~10. What are your plans for the future, boardwise?~~
Just grow and grow and some how get more great members and to achieve all that is post and have fun.
~~11. What would be your advice to a new Board owner? ~~
Be confident about your board and what you want it to represent. Be patient, without that you won’t get anywhere. (Boards do go through slow times and I have through that a many a times but some how it all works out). Try to get friends you know who have the same interest to join in and start of the whole show.
Most of all post yourself and get yourself noticed on boards with signature to entice them in

Thank you, Sertab. I think your answers are good advice, especially about the wise use of a signature.
I would just like mention that this board won even though Sertab didn't give it any points in the vote (which is our rule for boards owned by staff).
