Section Description

Before posting anything here, please read the rules in the Rules, Notes, and Posting Tips section. Art criticism is a very touchy and delicate subject. There is a fine line between being a firm critic and a jerk. Mistakes happen, but do try not to cross that line.

Note to those who post art here:

This section is specifically designed for those who want a good, solid, meaningful critique of their work. However, a certain amount of ego bruising is not uncommon in this kind of thing.

If you are not prepared for the potential pain, please do not post here. Post in the Show and Tell section instead, where you will get more encouragement than criticism.

But don't forget - to advance in your art, there is nothing better than honest, constructive criticism. Don't shy away from it for too long...

Note for those offering criticism here:

First, I want to thank you for taking the time to do this difficult work for the benfit of others. I know how difficult this is.

Please go back and review the rules sticky in the Rules, Notes, and Posting Tips section before you get involved here. I absolutely will not tolerate anything intended to hurt a person's feelings anywhere on this board.

Be a good critic, be a tough critic, but don't be a jerk. If you can't handle that, don't try to post here.

Note to both artists and critics who intend to post here:

Aesthetic visions differ. That's a good thing. The very thing that you think is most appealing about your work may be the thing that gets the most negative criticism.

Take it all with a grain of salt. if your personal vision differs from the preferences of a critic, both of you should explain why you think your choice is the best. This will help everybody - artist and critic alike - grow.

In the end, we are all responsible for the choices we make. Just because somebody doesn't like something you've done doesn't mean it's bad. Hopefully we will have enough people who take part in this that you will get a variety of opinions. Pick the one that works best for you, or disregard them all.

An artist must be fearless, but also must be honest with his/her self.

How to post for criticism:

Post the best possible picture of your work that you can.

You may list your media, but do not explain anything about your art. It should stand on its own, without additional explanation. If it doesn't, there's a problem right there.

You can explain things about your work when you respond to criticism, but don't make excuses. Take the criticism for what it is - an attempt to help you move forward - and then move forward.

And remember to smile, even if it hurts...
