I haven't been able to get on the internet from home because of the weather, and, MeavesChild, your work is so good that it's hard to critique without a lot of thought, so I'll be back when I can put the time into it.

The space between the tree was intended to be where a shaft of light was passing into the forest, to mimic the opening between the hands.

Apparently not fully realized, it seems.

Thank you for the critique, something I can keep in mind for the next one.

I'm wondering if you were to indicate the light coming in by very subtlely removing some of the pencil in a kind of light ray... I'm not explaining this very well... but I'm imagining one of those religious pictures where the sun is shown bursting through the clouds, and bright rays of light are stabbing out...

But something much less heavy handed to fit more understated feeling of your drawing.
