Re: Goals: share them.
My hubby does wedding videos and people love to pay money for mementos! Even in the slumping economy, he is booked solid. I would most certainly look into it as a source of income.

So that would be doing things like monogrammed wine glasses and vases, or with names of bride and groom, with wedding dates on them?
Basically, yeah. Or platters or vases with letters to the parents, vases with a thank-you on them to the bridesmaids, etc

Sounds like a good plan .
That is the hope... And if the aunt of the bride likes it, she can hire me for the grandparents' 50th or the cousin's baby shower.....
Steady enough to be a good extra, but not so much I can't do it and work my 40 hours is the hope. I can work on getting better and practice my customer skills before I get ready to go it full time.
I'm going to use my kid brother's wedding to pull together a portfolio. And get my cards and at least a splash page website. Not exactly a brochure (NO prices) but a mini-portfolio with some ideas would be good.
I'm going to push custom- each job is individual and unique, as is each client. I can help make it more theirs than picking one of five fonts for their monogram. And if they have a dream, I can at least hear them out and might be able to help with it. Want zombies? Want lilies? Want pugs? Talk to me. Want "script" vs "old English"? Talk to the place in the mall....

Especially since I can offer some ways to cut some expenses. Etched glass is almost as impressive as crystal if you don't point it out. It isn't cheap...I'd still charge for the etching... but if you compare $100 a glass crystal to $10 per glass glassware it adds up.
People want something special for things like this... and if I can sell them on this is truly "you"-nique I think it definately could work.
I'm not needing more money to live (although I wouldn't turn it down), but his could fund getting my business built and me getting out of the day job.
