Doh! I'm a dummy!

A little background...

I've been making jewelry using glass eyes from a taxidermy supply company. Most of the designs have been kind of complex, which means I have to charge a chunk of money for them

I wanted to come up with a desgin that I could sell profitably for about $35-40. Well, I came up with one - below is the metal roughly done and etched, with the glass eye placed on so you can see where it would go...:

Well, that was good enough, but I wanted to add something a bit special to make it nicer, so on the inside, I added an inscription. Unfortunately, I tried to etch both sides at the same time. For technical reasons which I didn't understand then but do now, it didn't work. Here's how the back looks:

All right, this one goes on the scrap heap. Oh well, it happens. So, I begin again...:

The inscription came out fine... here's the front, though:

Uh... can you see the problem?

Repeat after me, kids -

"I before E, EXCEPT after C...
I before E, EXCEPT after C..,
I before E,..."

The really sad thing is, I just realized I'm a double dummy, because I'm showing everybody what a buffoon I am... emoticon

Ah, that sucks! I've made plenty of dumb mistakes like that...just happens.

So...is that a bracelet? I like it!

Right now, it's scrap.

But the design will eventually be a bracelet. The one I'm making now uses a wolf's eye, but I have some realistic human eyes on order, in a variety of colors. I plan to make a few of these - people can match them to their own eyes... if they want to...

And I have a list of inscriptions the deal with seeing and vision. I'm thinking that I'll use the inscriptions at random, tell people there is one, but they can't know what they'll get until they get the bracelet, and people will enjoy the surprise. Like a fortune cookie emoticon .

(I like the way the lettering looks on front of the first try better anyway, so, even without the spelling error, I'd have most likely done it over again anyhow)

I love eyeball bracelets. My aunt gave me one probably 15 years ago now that has a cat eye. The bracelet is leather and the material comes up around the eye like skin would. Makes it really read and creepy looking!

I like the fortune cookie bracelet idea. I would certainly like a surprise like that!

My wife had one like that from back in our hippy days, which is where I got the idea. I haven't seen many around lately, so it's time for a revival.

Thanks, Sorsha! I've got a bunch of pieces in semi-completion down in the lab. This is the last one I was going to etch in this series, then I was going to do final assembly - but I keep getting tied up with "Things that must be done immediately."

Hopefully I'll be able to get back to these next week. They're so close to being done that I can practically taste the completeness.

The flavor is kind of like blue cheese.
