Re: Show off your workspace!

If the shed doesn't work out...my next to best is to eventually get a computer armoir for all my computer stuff, then a much smaller desk than the one I currently have to use for my crafting/art.
My current desk is about 6 ft long x 2 ft wide. It has an open cubby in the center, 2 drawers on the right side....a small one and a file drawer, on the left is a door where I keep my printer paper, photo print paper, a few books I use regularly for this-that-and-the-other, the box my digital camera came in with the USB cords and what-not and various packs of printable labels. On top is my laptop, printer, bill box, a candle, homemade rolodex (if you can call it that), some music CDs, catalogs and scrap paper....etc. In the cubby, I have my paper cutter, a drawer organizer that wouldn't fit the small drawer...it keeps pens, paperclips, scissors, a small hammer that also can become a screwdriver, a knife, stapler, staple remover and staples, rubber bands, ruler, tape, correction tape (I don't like white out..too messy)....other various office type stuff. I can only hope if I ever do go to a computer armoir that it's big enough to hold all of this stuff. There isn't anything listed above that doesn't get used. In this same room, I have a 4 drawer metal filing cabinet, a 27" television, my Witch's cabinet that houses candles, books, and all those other things I need for THAT type of crafting, on top it has my triple candle holder, a goddess sculpture, 2 altar pots, a censor, my Nigerian talking drum, a clock, various candles, various stones and crystals and a clay dragon I bought from a friend in DeviantART a couple of years ago. There is a small gas heater as well, sitting in front of the old fireplace, my DH's bookshelf, a small table next to the window for my kitties, my garbage can, a small 2 drawer plastic container that holds whatever, with my shredder, a 3 hole punch, and envelopes sitting on top of it. That is my work space...one of these days I may post some pics of it....depends on if I get motivated enough..lol.

Updates . . woohoo.

Excuse my highly fashonable outfit . . . but here's the bricks and the shelves built into what used to be the front windows of the house. I'm just putting on the second coat of stain!

Wow - those oak shelves look really nice!

That's turning into one heck of a fine studio!

And the outfit? Call it "Working around the house chic" and start your own line.

I finally have some shots of my house studio! It had started to be used as a storage room during the last major remodel so I actually hadn't stepped foot in there in almost 2 months. It's so nice to just go and sit and be with my junk! emoticon I have a whole room, about 15' x 10' I'd say. It's still a work in progress, but I think that's the way my studios always are...

Here's the main wall of junk:

And the other side is more for my craft stuff:

The shop studio is about 30' x 30' but it's still being finished. It will have paper marbling and a few floor looms. It was going to have pottery but that's been moved to the farm. Thank goodness I can get that kiln out of my garage now!

That looks like a nice, big, comfortable space.

You're going to need to get some pictures or wall hangings up, though, so you'll have something to stare at while you're thinkin'.

The big blank area in the second photo is where I was thinking of doing the fish stencil from Splendid Fish!!!

And if you look carefully at the desk, you might see a familiar work that is waiting to be framed...
The little round pillow in front of the window is frequently a meditation spot (the shelves on the desk right next to it are full of my stuff for that - candles, incense, etc) and I figured it would be a good place to hang it up nearby!

wow, it must be so nice to have a special room for all of your art stuff, all neatly organized, and an actual work space.

Re: Show off your workspace!

Well... I have a new workspace. It isn't ready for pics yet, but it is functional.

I converted a closet into an office.

In the family room there was a 3'x9' closet. I cleared out all my boxes (mostly books... I think they breed if you leave them in dark, quiet places...) and junk. I have a lovely little desk at one end. and a simple entertainment center at the other (looks like an extra deep bookcase... my printer is on the top of it.) I'm still trying to think of a way to arrange things so I can fit a filing cabinet in here.

I still need to decorate. I've some lovely corner shelves I plan to hang up the wall above my desk, and some tapestries and art I need to pick through. A rug would be nice. Corkboards and calanders are needed. And a lamp (or two.)

This workspace gives me a quiet place to work (I own a home with my mother. Because she uses a wheelchair, most guests are entertained upstairs.) It is also one I can shut the cats out of. VERY important, if I don't want them sleeping atop the printer. With the closet doors open, it isn't confining (I'm writting from it now.)

I also have hopes that I'll be able to use it to keep the business end of things better organized... at the least less scattered. If I can get reciepts and such in here, it will be VERY hard for them to go far emoticon.

I'll add some pictures once I've decorated.
