Art's a great thing to do, but you can't do it all the time. At least I can't. The level of attention is so intense that I think it would cause brain damage if I didn't do other things to ease off a bit.

So let's sit down and chat a bit about the non-art things we do.

To start it off, here's me out back relaxing:

Image

Normally I wouldn't wear the helmet, but I had just gotten it, and wanted to try it out. I'm trying to put together a full harness (set of armour), but it's pretty costly so I have to get it one piece at a time.

I'm learning German bastard (that probably got bleeped out. The polite - but incorrect - term is "hand and a half") sword technique in the Liechtenauer tradition. Since I don't have much in the way of a full harness, I'm concentrating on unarmoured technique - which is way, way different from armoured technique.

I'm also working with a pole axe (which is an awesome weapon, but difficult to use well because the balance is so odd) and a quarterstaff (which is a really awesome weapon, and much easier to use - bettter balance, and very light & quick).

So what do you-all do for kicks?

Awesome! I love that your wearing one of your art shirts though! emoticon

Hmmm...fun? Gee, Between work, homesteading, and my family I rarely have time for art let alone some other form of relaxing!

But I do love to just take a long walk with the dog. Boring, I know. But it's nice and peaceful. And I love actual hiking too. When it's warmer, I try to get to a park at least once a month. There are lots of city parks and a few state parks really close. No cool action shots of me taking a stroll though...!

I'm a geek.

I play RPG video games, read entirely too many fantasy novels. In the winter, anyway.

In the summer, I like to go fishing and camping. We garden alot.

And we work on our house, which we should have to our liking about 2041. When I retire. emoticon

TexsM, walking around outside may not be the most visually exciting thing in the world, but it's a great thing to do anyway. Very relaxing, and a feast for the eyes and the mind!

MeavesChild,RPG games look just too fun - I avoid them, because I'm afraid they'll eat yp all my time if I get started! But they do look fun...

And fantasy novels are one of my favorite forms of reading. I don't read as much fiction as i used to, but when I do, it's usually fantasy. I grew up on old-school fantasy - Robert E. Howard (of Conan fame), Fritz Lieber (Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser), Roger Zelazny, and suchlike. I don't suppose they're all that popular anymore, but I used to eat that stuff up.

Back in those days, fantasy had the same kind of reputation that Science fiction had back in the 40's - it was all "junk" literature. It's interesting to see how it has grown into a major genre these days!

Well hmm...for fun, I love to go camping and I enjoy fishing.
Sitting around a campfire in the evening talking quietly before bedtime.

Drum circles are awesome and very energizing, for both the drummer and any dancers there may be.

I like to chat with my online pals.

Reading is always a good pasttime for me. I love magical type books, or a good mystery.

If I'm up to it, in the warmer weather, I enjoy going to Bays Mountain. It's a wildlife refuge for injured or imprinted animals, or wildlife animals that someone had and realized they couldn't handle. Cost is very minimal and you can stay as long as you like. There are hiking trails (which I don't do), benches around the lake where you can just sit and enjoy the nature around you. There is also a planetarium there that I'd like to go to some time.

Ooohhh... don't miss the planetarium! When they put on a good show, planetariums are awesome - and I mean that in the literal sense of the word - they fill you with a sense of awe.

I visit planetariums whenever I can, ever since I went to one on a gradeschool fieldtrip. Thre's a small one in town here that I go to once every couple of years (going too often dulls the experience).

I've been to a few different planeteriums. One in the town I used to live in in Alabama, and one in Denver, CO. And yes...it is very awe-inspiring! I've not been in ages....it's past time! Maybe something to put on this summer's to-do list! emoticon

omg you stole my answer! How dare you?!? lol! No, that's seriously what I was going to say. I play way too much Oblivion for my own good, and I'm addicted to R.A. Salvatore!

I do find that I spend a lot more time outdoors in the Summer though, but it depends on where I'm dwelling @ the time. If it's here @ my parents house in San Diego, I go to the pool pretty much every day religiously, and take long walks in the neighborhood @ night. But if I'm in Point Pleasant, WV with my fiance, and weather and schedules permit, he'll take me out on his motorcycle and we'll take a nice long ride through the scenic and green forest areas. It's so beautiful out there!

Also, and I don't do this much anymore (and especially not out in WV) But if there happens to be any good goth clubs or a "goth night" happening @ a bar in the area, I'll get together with my goth friends and we'll go out dancing! ....I do occasionally get dragged to hip-hop clubs by my other friends, but I usually just end up being miserable and bitter @ those places. ....I love how I'm so much the opposite of the vast majority of people! emoticon Goth=happy and fun, Trendy Hip-Hop = depressing and bitter.

In the summer, if I'm not inside working on canning stuff from the garden or watching TV, I'm outside either with my laptop, or a book, or breaking beans, shucking corn, shelling peas...etc.
My DH and I grill out a great deal in the warmer months, and spend a lot of time outdoors. I love to plant flowers, trees, shrubs, etc. I need to work on my Faerie garden under my maple this year. Last year it kind of went defunct. I need to 'build' a new Faerie house...the current one has just about had it what with the weather and all. My Faeries need a new house. I'm going to see if I can find the perfect tree stump to create a new home for my garden friends.
Our porch hosts a 5 and a half foot wide swing on one end and a glass top table and 2 chairs on the other end, on a piece of outdoor carpeting. One that same side on the ground there is a huge Hosta that will come up next to a small waterfall fountain. I created an Elemental Garden on one side of my yard, and has the waterfall fountain in the western part of the area, a chiminea in the area, a wind catcher in the eastern and a wooden post with various plants around it and the veggie garden just to the north of that as our northern area to represent Earth. The center is where we put our patio table and chairs and we have another swing hanging from a maple tree there as well.
If we're hosting a group cook-out, we eat out there, and I place candles all around the area for ambiance. It's one of my most favorite parts of my yard in the spring, summer and fall. Mostly spring and fall though....too hot in the summer..lol. I would love to put a small ceiling fan on that porch eventually. It could easily carry one.
I am hoping to plant some perinneals around the waterfall and in the Faerie garden this year. Annuals get a bit expensive after a while, and never seem to do very well.
I'm rambling, I know....just wishing it were warm enough to be out on the porch posting this rather than stuck inside, and talking about it seems to help LOL.
