Re: New... sorta
I wouldn't dare try glass with a young child in the house. Too many possibilities for accidents, even though I do have a book that explains how to do some basic stained glass. Same old thing, though, tools cost lots to get started. I find branches that people have trimmed off trees or cut down. That way, I'm not using anything expensive. I can't imagine buying wood, though I wouldn't mind doing so if it was something exotic. Many years ago, my grandparent's neighborhood had a mahogany tree that was felled by a storm. Had I known about this in time, I would have asked them to get the folks hauling it away to put a few pieces in the garage until my next visit. I dunno if I could have worked with it, but it sure makes wonderful furniture.

Re: New... sorta
Interesting how much people want for simple pieces of wood. I could not fathom selling a glorified tree branch with leather on it unless I had made it my version of glorified... I still haven't learned the better way of sealing wood that it might last longer and also be protected from the elements, etc.I also noticed that it may be that the reason a lot of the shipping is so cheap is based on weight... basswood and some of these others are very light weight, generally. Oak and cedar, and sycamore, which is what I have in my meager stores, is heavy. Extremely so in some cases... my one finished stick weighs a ton and really isn't suitable for me, but I have used it here and there. Mostly it rests in the closet. I also don't have a line of the rubber caps for the ends, which would help somewhat in preserving the ends from wear and tear, if say, someone actually used these rather than letting them collect dust...
