The Dragoness Finally Speaks

After participating in the last contest I think it's about time for introductions... ^_^"

I have been in this realm for 27 yrs, currently making my lair with my mate in Los Angeles, CA. I enjoy life through the Arts in all its forms (writing, singing, dancing, drawing, music performance, etc.). In my off times I like to tend to my car, street race and taking midnight canyon drives to the beach. I am also a light gamer and very much like raves. I was in martial arts for a few years, but had to stop for several personal reasons. I may go back once things settle down again.

My art background starts as early as I could hold a pencil. I have been drawing all of my life, probablly singing for a good chunk of it too lol. I have been focusing a lot of my attention to illustration and character design. I have been working a lot lately with anthro-art, mostly pin-ups. As can be seen with two of my submissions in the dragon contest. I do a lot of tattoo designs as well.

I plan to create altar tiles to be sold maybe at pagan pride or other pagan festivals. Or I guess I can sell thru the net if someone wants a commission piece sent to them. Those are TBA, probablly going to be awhile tho, am saving up money for car repairs atm.

That's about all I can think of now, anything else ya wanna know just ask ^_^

Well, I know Corbin is gonna come on here and ask if you were born with a tail so I'll skip that question. emoticon

My brother is in LA - moved out there about 3 years ago. Interesting place. Are you originally from there? If not, where are you from and what brought you to such a huge city!

I imagine there is a big pagan community in LA (I imagine there is a big "anything" community there really...). Are you active in the community at all? What are the pagan pride days like? I haven't made it to one in Austin yet.

Anyway, officially welcome to the forum!

Well, here's my official welcome as well - sorry I didn't ge here sooner, but the fertilizer hit the ventilating device the last week or so, and now my dang blasted satalite connection to the internet is screwing up again (bad weather, as usual...) so I won't stay long...

Anyway, were you born with a tail? emoticon I think I just saw something on House about this, but it may have been a strange dream...

Are the tiles made of ceramic? Do you have a kiln? Are you trying to make me jealouse? I'd love to see some of them...

You might want to check out Etsy when you get ready to start selling your work on the internet - I've got a thread about it in the Utter Horror of Capitalism section. it looks like it might be the best way to go...

By the way - are you a fan of Giger? His art is remarkable, and I really loved the set designs he did for Alien. ( bought the Emerson, Lake and Palmer Brain Salad Surgery record album way back when just for the cover)

well thankies... and wow questions galore =p

I am not cali born, I was born and raised along lake erie in ohio. Long teary story told short... My mom who I didnt meet really till I was in high school before she moved to LA offered me and my exhubby a place to stay if we wanted to leave ohio. I was in a very abusive marriage at the time, decided to stick things out being hoomeless and in school. Once I graduated I moved here and she helped hide me so I could get away from him.

LA does have a large pagan community compared to most places. Although the judaic religions have a strong force here too. But everyone is pretty open and accepting of others. I am not as active in the community as i was in my old grove, but I hope my clan will be that big/active one day.

Pagan Prides are worth the trip ^_^ So many different people and paths are represented. Joint and open rituals are performed. Drum circles and performances. And lots of pagan shops have booths there.

In the physical plane I was not born with a tail, but I am spiritually a dragon so ya tail is obvious =p

Tiles will be on "artist trading cards" to begin with. If I start pulling the captial I want then I'll probablly switch to wood(or marble)/metal ones. Can get PMC relatively cheap for what it is. So no dont have a kiln, but by all means, be jealous... envy me!!! hehe

It's funny you asked about Giger... does my like of Giger show a lil? hehe I am also a fan of Royo.

If you want to work on metal, there is an easy technique for etching copper, brass, bronze, and nickle silver using salt water and a battery. Let me know... I think I've written about it somewhere around here...

I've seen some really great work done with metal clay. If I were starting over again, i would look into it myself... but I've got too many other things going on these days, and besides, I really like hammering stuff.

I look forward to seeing your projects as you get them done...

I have done a type of embossing with a thin sheet of copper before, was kinda cool but really flimsy when done. The etching sounds like something I'd like to look into when I get the money.

I'm also kinda interested in bone burning or stone carving too. The burned bones would be neat to have as runes ^_^ (bone chips etched with a wood burning kit).

my husband wants to whittle and carve, maybe burn too, a staff with a dragon atop. that's a project I don't know if we'd ever have the money for the tools/rigs heh.

Check out The Sorcerer's Fun Book of Things To Make and Do for an easy explanation of basic salt etching (project 3):

http://www.splendidfishstudio.com/sorcerers_book/sorcerer's_book.html

Working with bone is nice. I've never tried burning it, but cutting and shaping it is easily done with a dremil tool. It's kind of like being a dentist. But bone stinks when you work with it. It smells like burnign hair, so wait until you can keep the windows open! emoticon
