Let my friend speak for me
Priscilla is an enigma. Most artists are. The sensitivity, the passion & the fire it is all there and more. Much more. Born in November 1955 in Manila, Philippines, her love affair with art started at age 6. A brilliant mother, Soledad Benitez Ramos & a pioneering father of the advertising industry, Pedro “Pete” Teodoro of the legenday ad agency, Philprom, early nurturing could not have come from better genes.
Her art teachers at the International School Manila were awed with the beginnings of her talent. she would excel throughout her studies academically reaping awards in math, writing, poetry and art. She was awarded one of the top ten Filipino Alumni most likely to succeed. For one so young, she sought the company of brushes & paints more often than child’s play.
Prissy would continue creating art and interact with equally gifted artists like the Spanish painter Ernesto Caratala, Filipino artists Leo Villaroman, Tess San Juan, Azella Montilla especially German artist Kai Hilgemann. She studied colors for five years under the tutelage of New Yorker Magda Kristoff & Japanese-American Chiye Oshima while working as the head designer, president & production manager of their own export company. An agriculturist & scientist (UPLB-Bachelor of Science in Agriculture), Prissy’s love & respect for life, mother nature & the environment & her fascination with the cosmos would echo strongly in her art works.
1986, as the intensity of her ever growing journey builds up, Prissy made the decision to “walk the way’ as the forecast was from the Taoist temple; leaving the comfort of a privileged life, her family, her friends. She travelled from place to place, in abject deprivation, she survived through sheer talent & resourcefulness, living amongstdifferent kinds of people, learning, teaching, sharing, endeavoring to show her ”way of life“...She took the path like a true warrior, over the consternation of her family & friends. It was not easy but theenigmatic Priscilla walked the talk.
The Zen teacher, rooted her paintings to the way of zen, meditative, magical investigative nature discerned from her experiences as a female initiate walking the path towards adepthood.
Way ahead of her time, the artist, the student of life, Prissy has consistently ignored the dictates of commercialism. The soul dictates fingers that give life to her craetions on canvas or her sculpture. Although she has remained uncompromising, the colors and her genius at mix media has been the subject of varied commentaries. Those whodo not claim to be “art connoisseurs”, critiques & experts see her works beyond the techniques, the geometrics of her lines & symmetry, all they can see is the feel, the sense, the depth emanating from within. This is the source of fire, the passion & the insight.
Awarded as one of the top 100 most influential female artist (2004Women’s Federation) and as one of the top 1000 artists in the Philippines (1999 Cultural Center of the Philippines).
