Serial/Series Art

I've discovered myself very, very slowly working on a series of art pieces, something I haven't done for years.

I'm slowly making art pieces of various characters from the Arthurian Saga. It all started with Galahad.

And then, almost a year later continued with Arthur.

And now I'm working on a portrait of Tristan.

Although it's slow going, and its becoming very rewarding to do these. They are in my "comfort zone" of photoshop tinted and tweaked pencil drawings, but sometimes it nice to just draw for pleasure and not work so hard to "improve."

Has anyone else done a series of pieces on a theme or style?

What do you feel you gained from this exercise?

Re: Serial/Series Art

I started a series, but haven't ever finished much of it. It was oil paintings of sea life. All dark background with a monochrome (blue) aquatic critter. Started off with a fish and got half way done with an octopus. Have sketched out on canvas a lobster and jellyfish.

I think for me it felt like I was actually working on a body of work and not just randomly playing with things. I've never REALLY concentrated on one technique or style but experimented a whole lot. It was really nice to work with one thing and get as good as I did with that one color, that one style and that one medium.

One day I will get back to these sorts of things! emoticon
