New York pays for topfree arrest
Did you all see the news that New York had to pay a woman $29,000 after police arrested her for being topfree?
It was on CNN. You can read about it at [url=http://www.cnn.com/2007/LAW/06/18/topless.settlement.ap/index.html]

Re: New York pays for topfree arrest
Yes, it was widely covered by the media, such as the NY Post and Geraldo, in their usual condescending way, but there are probably a lot of women (and public officials and cops) who now at least now know that topfree is legal.
Whether any of them take advantage of it is another question. There should at least be fewer hastles. Just keep a copy of the article in your beach bag in case you get hassled. No cop is going to want a civil liberties case on his/her hands.
One news report said that topless women in the Hamptons still get ticketed. Maybe this will stop it.
I'm going to Jersey with friends this weekend, and its really tough to figure out where you can go topless there. It's illegal, but in some places, the cops say nothing. AC for example.

If you follow the link, be sure to vote in the poll on the left-hand side about whether men and women should be allowed to be topless. After my vote, the results were about 2-1 in favor.
As the old saying goes, vote early, vote often!
