Topfree in NYC part II
I was reading the news item about the women in Sweden who removed their tops in a public pool to protest for equal rights. I remember that women have the right to be topfree in New York and I wondered? Men frequently remove their shirts at Yankee games and I wondered if women have the same right to remove their shirts at Yankee Stadium? Does anyone know?

As I understand the wording of the staute where ever a man can be topfree so can a woman. Several women who have gone top free have been hasseled or arrested but after checking the state staute they have been released and or tickets dismissed. You may want to do as others and get a copy of the staute and keep it with you. Good luck, the more the women of NY know their rights the less power the police will have to intemidate.

Re: Topfree in NYC part II
We were in Central Park a couple of weeks ago and my wife took her top off. One other woman was on the lawn topless sitting in a beach chair reading a book. There were cops all over the place and no one said a thing, or even paid any attention.

In New York topfreedom may be regulated if it is for commercial purposes; it is OK to restrict topless bars.

I beleive the only reason they get away with this is because there are no male topfree bars, otherwise it would be discrimination if male topfree bars were allowed to exist but not women topfree bars. Personally if they are going to have a law legalizing topfreedom for both men and women then it should apply to commercial establishments as well. Meaning that simply because a bar is "topfree" doesnt mean it can be shut down for that purpose.

Re: Topfree in NYC part II
Good point Mike.
My understanding of the law is that anywhere in New York men are allowed to be topfree must also be allowed to be topfree. A city, town, or county could decide to ban all topfree bars. And everyone (men and women, including the entertainers) would then have to wear shirts in bars in that jurisdiction.

Re: Topfree in NYC part II
Funny place USA. This is okay on some city streets, yet topfree is not allowed on many beaches!
Cheers,

The thing you have to remember is that the Unite States really is 50 "united" states, rather than one homogeneous country. That was the original idea anyway, though it's somewhat less true today. But still most laws are at the state level.
