Topfree Tuesday-Austin?
Under the old rubric of "use it or lose it" we might lose our rights to go topfree in Austin.
It seems that many women, even here in liberal Austin, won't go topfree because they're worried they will be the only woman exercising their freedoms. Some of my friends, who wouldn't hesitate to get naked at a nude beach, or with a group of friends anywhere, won't go topless in Austin because they're worried they'll stand out as the only topfree woman. So, we have a chicken and egg problem. Women won't go topfree because other women aren't going topfree. To solve this problem, someone has to take her top off first. But whom?
I propose that we adopt "Topfree Tuesday" as an unofficial weekly day of action. Every Tuesday, any like minded woman who is willing makes it a point to do something topfree. Go swimming, wash the car, carry out the trash, sunbathe in the park, whatever. By getting women all to take topfree action on the same day, weekly, with the goal of motivating other women to do the same, we increase the odds that women won't be acting alone. Everyone is more likely to encounter more than a single topfree woman on a single day. No one is likely to stand out as the sole activist. And we all revel in securing our rights to go topfree-not just in Austin, but everywhere.

Re: Topfree Tuesday-Austin?
What is the status of topfreedom in Austin? I know it (and nudity) are legally sanctioned at Hippy Hollow (although that is a county park). I know it's traditional at Barton Springs (city park) but I don't know whether it actually is legally protected there or anywhere else.
I guess safety in numbers is the best strategy. Are you female? Get a couple of friends together and go do something together, maybe not blatantly in public, but public enough. Or if you go without other females bring along a guy friend/boyfriend/husband. I never feel comfortable being topfree by myself where it is uncommon yet permitted/tolerated but with my husband around harassment potential pretty much goes to zero.
UPDATE: I saw your other post about its legality everywhere except at the Capitol, encouraging information. I take it you're a guy, from the other post? Just remember from the gals' perspective, it's easy for a guy to preach wider topfree practice but it's not so easy for the gals to actually do it, and such direct advice carries with it some uneasiness. If a guy came up and said, "You need to practice more topfreedom," and made suggestions, unless I knew him well the first thing I'd think was he was more interested in seeing more boobs than anything else.
What I'm saying is that if to you a female friend remarks, "I'd like to go topfree more often but I don't want to be by myself when doing it," etc., an offer to accompany her on such an outing might be very well received. A blanket statement to women about how they should endure the social costs men don't face to be topfree comes off more suspiciously and less helpfully.

Re: Topfree Tuesday-Austin?
I'm glad you caught the other post. And, yea, I am a guy. And it is difficult for a guy to advocate more topfreedom without coming off as creepy. Of course, I'm also a gay rights activist, so that helps a little. I've been trying to coordinate with several groups in town to get the groups to plan events that would celebrate all sorts of body positive freedoms. Topfreedom is just one of them. It certainly is more "organic" and well received if you just help people to do what they want to do anyway, rather than spur them to action they might not otherwise take.
Anyway, we developed the Topfree Tuesday idea as a way of reaching out to others with a minimum of the "creepy guy looking for more boobs." I hoped it would help women find and establish the numbers to reestablish an adequate comfort level with topfreedom. This board seems a natural place to promote it.
What am I looking for? More body positive attitudes mean a more tolerant enviroment. More topfreedom might mean a more active feminist community. Both of those make it easier to push the Gay Rights agenda.
And, I'm looking for boobs

Re: Topfree Tuesday-Austin?
Unfortunately the biggest boob from Austin has spent the last 7 or so years in Washington DC.

Re: Topfree Tuesday-Austin?
Did you ever consider that Texas won the 2000 election because we got rid of him?
