Sarah Palin
Senator McCain executed the boldest and smartest move of his campaign so far, he picked Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska as his running mate. She's the first female on a GOP ticket. She's the first Alaskan on either ticket. She is young, 44. She is hot.
Suddenly, picking McCain as the lesser of two evils seems a little more palatable.

Re: Sarah Palin
Two years ago she was the part-time mayor of a small (<9,000) city. She has less qualifications than Dan Quayle and the philosophy of **** Cheney. Scares the **** out of me. It's a desperation move and a play to identity politics.

"She has less qualifications than Dan Quayle"
Dan Quayle was a second term senator from Indiana. He was unqualified to be president.
Obama is a first term senator from Indiana.
Yeah, he is highly qualified to be president
Sometimes, I'd likes just like to pull the level for "none of the above"

Re: Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin has been governor of Alaska for a year and a half. In case you didn't know, Alaska's total population is less than Baltimore, Louisville and hundreds of other cities in the U.S.
Before that she was the part-time mayor of a town of 6,000. How the hell can anyone say with a straight face that she is qualified to be vice president? Or anything else, for that matter.
Oh, by the way, she's also under investigation for possible ethics violations in Alaska. No surprise there.

Re: Sarah Palin
I am Canadian and I am afraid for my country. We have a Conservative prime minister (by Conservative we Canadians mean political party not philosophical leanings), who wants to be a Republican. To me, given George W. Bush's reign, this is a great disservice to our country.
I believe that the USA is the greatest country in the world, when it follows its own consitution and engages in foreign policy to ensure the "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" motto for other countries. That is why I have always believed that Jimmy Carter was a great President. (Please don't e-mail me with your negative or contraray comments)
Politics in the US has become one where those in power are more concerned about keeping power than what happens to the people of the nation. I hope that America can find it's way to the greatness it once held, figuratively and literally, in the world. Therefore, does it matter who McCain has for a running partner?
Just a thought from a Canadian.

Re: Sarah Palin
LOLOLOLOLOL I love it, well, I guess we'll see how she turns out. From what I've seen so far I like her.
Amanda says she doesn't have much experience. True, but it sounds like she's got a lot more executive branch experience than Obama does and he's at the top of the other ticket.
newdguy points out she's under investigation for ethics violations and says "no surprise there". That's hilarious! Yeah, she's under ethics violations alright, apparently for going after a state cop who was corrupt AND was also her brother-in-law going thru a nasty divorce at the time. The laughable part is that she has made a reputation for herself of being a crusader AGAINST corruption during her short political career and because of that the old boy's network of the GOP in Alaska really don't like her all that much. Apparently, she's not one to be pushed around by professional political crooks and doesn't mind going after them when they need it, no matter WHO they are.
So we'll see what happens. It's been less than 24 hours. I don't know myself how she's gonna do. As I've said, what I've seen so far I like. But we'll give the process of discovery a few weeks to work its magic. I'm curious to see how she reacts to the pressures she's about to undergo. One thing I do know, if they wind up in office, one of the floats on inauguration day will probably be of a giant snowmobile! :-)

Sorry, Obama represents Illinois, but I do like the none of the above. I guess writing in Nader would be the same.
I also noticed that spell check catches O'bama
(thought I see if he would work out as an Irishman )

Re: Sarah Palin
I can hardly wait until the vice presidential debate and they ask the two candidates about foreign policy. Joe Biden will have fun with her...

Re: Sarah Palin
Mayor of Wasilla, AK was a full time job, at least by the salary. Also she was runnerup Miss Alaska and point guard for the state championship women's high school basketball champions in 1982. And, she gave birth last year to a child with Down's, knowing that. A very interesting, courageous woman in my opinion and mostly correct on the issues.
>I can hardly wait until the vice presidential debate and they ask the two candidates about foreign policy. Joe Biden will have fun with her...
I think more fun will be hearing whatever silly things come out of Biden's mouth. He's as bad a walking gaffe machine as Obama (at least when Obama is off the teleprompter). At least maybe he'll avoid unattributed borrowing of other people's speeches this time ...
>That is why I have always believed that Jimmy Carter was a great President.
Thank you so much for staying in Canada ...
