Wearing thongs - two little questions...

Everybody has to learn every time new matters. What I´ve learned (or think I´ve learned) is that especially in the U.S. thong-wearing is handled at many places like toplessness (and toplessness like nudity). And that even in other countries like the U.K. thong-wearing is a matter which must be discussed as a problem. My first question, which sounds perhaps a little bit naive (it comes from a German point of view): Am I really right with this and where should be the problem?

In every country where the distinction is made between "textile" and "nude" thong-wearing is a part of "textile"-sunbathing. Even if a woman does not carry a top to her thong-bottom. That´s not only in Germany the case but in all continental European countries which I know - even in Poland and Russia.

In practice I saw two developments in the last years. For the male sex it must be said (and I think it´s ugly) that thongs or even a small swimsuit are becoming a rarity. Especially the boys and young men are running around in monumental bathing shorts like sixty or seventy years ago. If they don´t want to carry them they go directly to the nude beach which becomes more popular for men than ever (but only from an age of perhaps 25 years onwards - I think because it`s perhaps necessary to loose the shyness as a man that a special thing can happen and than everybody can see it). Only in the last year I saw some younger boys who wear again smaller swimsuits (but seldom thongs). But that´s only a matter of "à la mode". When I´m not at the nude beach I wear everytime thongs or other very tiny swimsuits and I had nowhere a "problem" with it - not in the darkest rural area and of course not at the Mediterranean Sea. Of course you got often longer looks when you wear a thong as man. From both sexes and especially on the one point. But that´s only normal and I´ve never glimpsed an eye on it.

For the female sex I can say that the "Brazilian style" has growing more and more popular in the last years. Especially by the girls and younger women. Their swimsuits became smaller and smaller in the last years and the nude backside a normalcy which can be seen at every rural area swimming pool - not to talk about the large tourist resorts. The fewer encouraging side of this "Brazilian style" is, that the tops are staying on more often (especially in the case of girls and younger women, in the case of the generation of 30 until 55 the tops came down still very quickly, but the bottoms are a little bit more "conservative", seldom thongs). Even if they hide no nothing (like "firstoff" had say it). And at the nude beaches the women are mostly in the minority.

So my second little question is: Do you watch the same development? Or what´s your opinion? I would be very interested in it.

It's because there is only so much swimsuit fabric to go around. As men's suits get larger, women's suits get smaller. It's like the balance of power in the universe or something. <Small joke.>

Back from our hols and I see so many changes to the board. Might have to reply to some and add my bits to the new posts.

But first Hans's post. I broadly agree with the observations made. This year I've hardly hit the beaches much and we don't plan to go abroad now, so I might not be up to date on new trends. But the trend of these ridiculous shorts on boys needs to stop!! They are hideous and comical. I want to see boys bodies, so why hide it when it looks its best i.e, teens and early manhood? I think it's just a fashion thing from America where body issues are a problem and obesity forces a lot of people to hide lots of flesh.

I think older women go topless readily because they are less concerned with what others think and in their youth toplessness was quite common - judging by comments I've heard. Also, I think a woman's bottom tends to - how do I put it ... lose firmness(!!) and so skimpy bottoms and thongs look nicer on younger girls generally. I started wearing a thong at the beach early on (14) and I've always loved my bottom so I was encouraged to show it and not be uncomfortable but for some women it's harder. I don't think anybody should feel pressured to follow trends and they should do what they feel comfortable with; if they want to cover up, that's fine, but many don't realise that small swimsuits can actually have a slimming effect and make you look better than ones that cover everything.

My experience has been that wearing a thong on British beaches is fine. You may get some longer looks, but I've never had a problem with it. I certainly find it much easier to wear a thong than go topless in some places. What I have never seen though, is a thong at a public swimming pool. And I haven't seen many men wearing one which is a pity sometimes.

Re: Wearing thongs - two little questions...

I´m coming to the end of a 2-week holiday in Gran Canaria. I spend most of the time on the nudist beach, but in transit all the men in the textile section seem to be wearing "shorts" that go down to their knees and have seen very few in "short" shorts or speedos. Meanwile their other halves are in bikinis or topless with a mix of ordinary or thong bottoms.

I had to buy some myself before I came out, but don´t like them that much. People swim in the things! It´s bad enough in "short" shorts with all that fabric flapping around.

As far as I can see I´m the only man on the island wearing a thong. I use them in transit to and from the FKK section of the beach, in the hotel pool when I swim for excercise and in the textile sections of a health spa. I don´t have the body for it, but I don´t care. It´s allowed and I want to wear as little as possible.

As to why proper trunks and thongs are going out of fashion for men could simply be that you can´t get them. I first started wearing them after buying some when here on holiday 7 years ago. I went to the small shops on the strip that sell beachwear and got 2 from the second one I tried. A few days ago I went through about half of them found none.

I see what men usually wear to the beach these days being more covered. A while ago, it would be common to see men in speedos at the beach or especially at the pool. Nowadays, they wear shorts - actually LONG shorts!

At the same tiime, i've found that thongs are more common for women, and also the brazilian style - especially for younger women. Usually those wearing brazilian will tend to keep their tops on, but those in thongs will go topfree.

I myself prefer a low-cut thong and to be topfree

Can I ask you a question
As a male who loves to wear thongs (underwear and to the beach), I'd like some female feedback on your oppinions of men in their thongs. I'm 33, married with a couple of kids who all love the beach. I look after myself by swimming every day, surfing, and eating well (I'm not fat). I also keep myself pretty well groomed in the body hair dept., and have a decent tan. Even here in Australia, most other guys are not really open to seeing a guy in a thong.
So what do you think? Is it something you're happy to see, or should we stick to shorts or speedos?
I'd love some feedback here, as you can't really waltz up to people on the beach and ask them!
Thanks

Such a nude bronzed ass of an attrective men is a wonderful thing - especially when the thong is showing me the other main parts on the front side of him, too.

The only case in which a thong perhaps becomes a little bit problematic is the circumstance when the beer is doing his work over the years and the stomach is growing up more and more.

And, if you love us women: please never use such horrible shorts in which most of the young boys are running around today! emoticon

My generation always wore Speedo's - the smaller the better!
We were even known to cut out the lining to leave a single thin layer of material (!!).

Now we seem to have no choice but to wear huge patterned shorts which really drag when swimming and are only of any use if you are several stone oversized.
