I have to say, I don't think most guys can pull off a thong. If you're really muscular, maybe, but the average guy looks better in trunks, IMO. So, I sort of agree with the Canadians. I hope I'm not coming of as sexist, I think it takes the right girl to pull off a thong too.  I don't think my butt looks good in them either, so I typically go for regular bikinis. I think you really have to have a toned ass. I have no ass.

I think the thong issue sometimes gets too bogged down in the fashion side of it. My reasons for preferring thongs are partly the look, but also comfort and a better tan. Although I agree that some people look better than others (bigger bottoms seem to be flattered by thongs), we should be tolerant if we also tolerate differences such as fat people for example.
I think more guys can pull off thongs - in the fashion sense - than we expect, providing they're not very overweight. I wish more younger men would get into them or speedos, rather than knee length shorts.

That´s my thinking, too!!! You would be astonished how much very eatable young men exists when they would come to a point to present their bodies in a better way!!! And perhaps at least some of the others would be engaged to reduce their overweight, too.
Oh yes, I enjoy attractive, bronzed males in tiny thongs very much. And I´ve absolutely no problem to see their package in all its glory...

My hubby and I both enjoy wearing little or nothing as often as possible, so we're both very committed to toning our bodies. It's an added motivation for a daily exercise regimen to know that it's healthy and it makes more confident and happy being bare.
Perhaps if the trends in men's beachwear would move toward smaller and smaller suits...even to thongs...men would be more motivated to exercise for health and self-confidence. Here's my idea for defeating obesity...get ready to look great in your new thong!

Chicken-and--egg problem here, but I suspect consumers drive fashion on this and, given the cultural aspects that are much more forgiving of men who let themselves go than of women, I suspect we're not going to see much of thong-wearing guys who are in shape any time soon.

Traditionally women's dress has been designed to feature assets and men's dress to conceal faults. Otherwise, why would business suits be de rigeur for men in management?

...and we females can wear deep cleavages and very short miniskirts in our business clothes...
But at the beach or at the swimming pool there´re other standards of clothing - and when I´m remembering back to my teenage years the male´s swimwear were much more skimpier as today and it was not sooooooo uncommon that a boyfriend of me wore a thong. The boys liked to give us good looks on their bodies and especially packages - and we girls were not ashamed to take our looks and give the boys occasions back for their looks because tops had not a great chance taking part in our swimsuits (and btw: not only much gorgeous ONS resulted out of this lifestyle but also a lot of families were founded on this way ).
The rap-style-trousers-fashion and the leg-long swimshort-fashion started only in the second half of the 1990ies as a fashion wave coming from the U.S. - together with a change of the youth body culture (at least here in Europe): a boy who gives the girls good looks on his body is a "gay" and topless sunbathing girls are "bit..es". It´s a kind of new prudishment which I dislike very much and from which I hope strongly that it disappear so quick as possible.
